No more Dial Idol–for now anyway. Idol sent a “Cease and Desist” letter yesterday to the person who runs the site, claiming that DialIdol infringes on copyrights they own. Apparently, they aren’t happy with the premise of the web site, particularly the way DialIdol “measures the busy signal” to predict the results.
The site owner is going to be consulting the appropriate resources over the next few days, and asks that folks who use the site email Idol to complain. He’s also asking folks who may be interested in contributing to a legal fund to email him.
I was never convinced that the results of DialIdol were very accurate, which is why I never posted the results here. But the site was definitely on my to-do list to investigate. I know the site is popular–I’ll definitely be posting regular updates on the situation.

Does this mean they are not a sister site?
I stopped following it because Idol ramped up their phone lines and there are fewer busy signals and the Dial Idol system is less accurate now.
I wish that Idol would use some 3rd party for results tabulation that has oversight by the general public. I, for one, have never believed the results to be on the level all the time.
It’s just too convenient that we’ve had a winner for almost every demographic…
1. A Pop Singer - Kelly Clarkson
2. A Bluesy R&B Singer - Ruben & Adult Contemporary /Christian Type - Clay Aiken
3. A I don’t know what Fantasia is, that year was just off
4. A Country Singer - Carrie Underwood
5. Taylor, the Soul Singer & Daughtry, the Rock Man
6. Jordan Sparks, caters to the younger pop/rap/R&B (part black) crowd.
7. So who will it be this year? Well, we don’t have the young boy band kid yet (David A.) and we don’t have the folky hippy group yet (but we got Brook and Jason Castro coming up)
So, looks like Idol has worked it’s way into almost every type of genre there is.. Interesting isn’t it?
