UPDATE: Check out Cateye36’s humorous recap of the San Jose CA LiMBO show featuring Taylor Hicks. She loved the show with and without Taylor…
Little Memphis Blues Orchestra After Idol Party Schedule
Taylor Hicks’ band, (well hopefully–they auditioned for the suits in LA at The Viper) the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra has been shadowing the Idols tour, playing gigs along the way. When possible, Taylor and a few of the other Idols have appeared to play a set with the band. Here’s the schedule for the rest of the tour. I’ll update the pending dates as soon as I have more information.
Sep 5 2006 10:30P Herman’s Hideaway Denver, CO
Sep 7 2006 9:00P Galaxy Club Dallas, TX
Sep 9 2006 10:30P Engine Room Houston, TX
Sep 10 2006 10:15P Antone’s Austin, TX
Sep 12 2006 10:30P Pending Atlanta, GA
Sep 21 2006 10:30P Asylum Portland, ME
Sep 23 2006 9:30P Pending New Haven, CT
Sep 24 2006 10:30P Pending Wilkes-Barre, PA
Tickets for the Denver show go on sale later today. And here’s a quote from Ace Young from today’s Rocky Mountain News:
“After the show, there’s gonna be a little party with Taylor Hicks’ band,” Young says. “We’re gonna be at Herman’s Hideaway and we’re gonna do a jam session. We’re going to be there till they kick us out.”
And who exactly is “we”?
“The whole Rat Pack is going to be there. It’s going to be Taylor, Elliott (Yamin), Bucky (Covington) and myself,” Young says. “We’re gonna get cleaned up and go right over there after the show and just have a jam session with a five-piece band. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
It’s a great show. I highly recommend it, with or without Taylor.

Randy, Simon and Paula in the Big Apple
According to NY Daily News, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell were at the Chelsea Piers yesterday in Manhattan auditioning the lucky hopefuls who passed through to the third round:
L. McKay, a 23-year-old student and part-time secretary who drove from Lansdale, Pa., has tried out for “Idol” three times before. “And four is my lucky number,” she said.
Talking before her audition, McKay said this time she’s going to sing a song she wrote especially for the judges. She declined to sing a few verses, but admitted it was a sort of serenade to Randy, Paula and Simon.
Scottie McLaughlin, 26, works as a host at Madame Tussaud’s, where he regularly rubs elbows with wax renditions of Cowell and company. This was his third time in front of the judges. The last time he tried out (for season three), Cowell told him to lose 20 pounds. And he did.
“I’ve done what they told me to do,” said McLaughlin. “I lost the weight. I changed my look. I feel like I’ve come a long way.”
McLaughlin planned to sing Lionel Richie’s “Hello.”
Songs Simon does not want to hear:
I’m bored of girls singing Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion - because they’re not going to be as good. I’m totally over ‘Falling’ by Alicia Keys. I can’t hear that song again or ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ or ‘At Last’ by Etta James. I just can’t hear them, or ‘Crazy’ by Patsy Cline.
Preliminary auditions are set to take place in Memphis Tennessee this Sunday.

Tour Update
From USAToday: The Idol tour has sold a lot of tickets. It is the most successful Idol tour so far:

It is the longest and most successful Idol tour ever. Through Aug. 2, the tour had raked in $14.6 million and had been seen by more than 265,000 fans, Billboard figures show.
The show takes a break tonight, but will pick back up in Portland, OR tomorrow night.

Taylor Hicks Settles Suit with Ex-Producer Will Smith
Good news for Taylor Hicks. The lawsuit he recently brought against producer Will Smith over the rights to three songs they recorded together in 2001 has been settled in Taylor’s favor. Taylor gained possession of the master recordings of the songs in the settlement. Read the AP report here.
According to Joe Leak, one of Taylor’s attorneys, “No money will change hands under the agreement”, which Leak further described as “amicable”. He said, “We were primarily just making sure that Taylor had the rights to the music.”
In a short statement to the Birmingham Business Journal Smith said he thanked Hicks and “Taylor thanked me … and we both look forward to a long friendship.”
Oh, I am sure Taylor looks forward to that. Heh. Congratulations Taylor.
Thanks Lisa B

Bits and Pieces
The gossip site TMZ.com is busy covering the Idols today. First, they take us behind the scenes at the LA Idols show after party Friday night. And it’s pretty much what you’d expect. Next, TMZ lets us know “what went down inside” what they call the Taylor Hicks Viper Room Romp. It reads like they cribbed it from one of the many detailed and entertaining recaps posted on this blog in the last few days. Hee. More interesting, however, is this little blurb on Katharine McPhee:
A well-placed source tells TMZ that Kat, who has the same theatrical manager as another ailment-prone hottie, Lindsay Lohan, is one of the lucky ladies up for the highly coveted lead role in the big-screen adaptation of “Wonder Woman.”
Everyone from Sandra Bullock to Kate Beckinsale has been rumored to be in the running for the starring role in the movie, which will be directed by Joss Whedon, who created “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
TMZ has learned that Katharine, who has struggled with bulimia, will appear on the cover of an upcoming issue of Shape magazine, wearing a bathing suit. Now in a much healthier place, McPhee will show off her killer curves for all the world to see.
While Katharine will drop an album in the fall, she appears to be pursuing other options in the entertainment world as well.
And finally, more evidence that Elliott Yamin has a record deal. In Randy Jackson’s latest Idol Insider podcast for Westwood One radio, he says:
…And proud to announce my boy, Elliott Yamin, one that we loved this season (me and Paula), one of our favorites — just the nicest, coolest kid…is about to sign a record deal. So he’ll have an album out in the near future…
Thanks Tony and Kirsten
