David Archuleta visits Alex Lushington in Atlanta

David Archuleta writes in his latest MySpace blog about finishing up his promo tour on the East coast.  In Atlanta he spent time with extended family, but also had the opportunity to meet up with Season 7 Top 24 contestant, Alexandrea Lushington.

David and Alex competed against each other (David won) on Star Search and then resumed their friendship when they competed again on the same season of Idol.  The night she was eliminated, David was in tears, and Alex ran over to the “couches of safety” to give him a big hug.  I thought Alex’s  “Spinning Wheel” was one of Season 7’s underrated performances.

Speaking of hanging out with Idols–David spent time backstage with Jordin Sparks, at the Boo Bash in Hartford Wednesday night…

David is currently back in LA rehearsing with his band and says that he didn’t know what to expect at first, but the band is really “awwesooomme” and right now he’s ” really pumped.”

Daughtry Performs On Oprah Election Event - Tuesday 11/4

Daughtry will be performing on Oprah Tuesday, as part of her special two-day election event. According to the latest Daughtry newsletter:

The boys are back! Oprah is kicking off November with a two-day special event. On Tuesday, Nov. 4, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” hosts an all-American voting party as people with different viewpoints come together for a celebration of our right to vote.

Featuring performances by the multi-platinum rock band Daughtry the live show will include “Saturday Night Live” cast members, Whoopi Goldberg and Elisabeth Hasselbeck (“The View”), and dueling political power couple Mary Matalin and James Carville.

Nice gig!  That should be some nice exposure for Chris Daughtry and the band.

The appearance on Oprah will cap a busy election season for Daughtry.  They contributed a cover of Foreigner’s “Feels Like the First Time” (available on the Daughtry Deluxe reissue) to CNN’s special report, “League of First Time Voters.” The band also performed during both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in Denver and Minneapolis.

David Cook - Saturday Night Live Promo Videos and Upcoming Appearances

Here’s what’s so awesome about David Cook’s upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live tomorrow night–he’ll have the opportunity once again to capture the imaginations of TV viewers, just as he did on American Idol last spring. I don’t think the recorded single “Light On” does his talent justice entirely. I’m looking forward to seeing Cook live on my TV again.

NBC has been airing promos for this weekend’s (Ben Affleck hosts, John McCain guests) SNL episode, and I’ve got them after the jump.

Insert obligatory AI election joke here! Heh.

More upcoming appearances: David and his band will be featured on Wal-mart Soundcheck. Check out a preview here. The entire performance will be available on November 15. They’ve also recorded a performance for AOL Sessions that premiers on November 28.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight David calls the AOL sessions one of the first gigs with his group and says he still gets butterflies before he hits the stage. “The day I stop getting nervous about gigs” says David “Is the day I need to stop playing music.” Watch the video after the jump.

Josiah Leming - Angels Undercover - Promo Video

Josiah Leming’s Angels Undercover EP dropped this week, and his label, Reprise, has released a promo video that takes up Josiah’s backstory where American Idol left off. Josiah wants to release his music before his mother passes away. But if the AI producers have anything to do with it, that may be a problem. Bastards!

As of this afternoon, there’s been no follow-up or response from TPTB to the New York Post story from yesterday. If something turns up today, I’ll update this post.

Josiah’s full-length album is due to drop early next year.

David Archuleta - Liner Notes and Song Snippets!

Entertainment Weekly has highlights from the liner notes for David Archuleta’s upcoming album, David Archuleta, dropping November 11.

David Archuleta’s self-titled debut album (out Nov. 11) is starting to make the press rounds, but without giving too much away (that’s what critic Chris Willman is for; look for his review in next week’s EW), we’d like to preview the American Idol runner-up’s extensive liner notes, which clock in at just over 3,500 words (2,000 of which are his Thank You’s) and include 6 lol’s, 8 haha’s, and 16 exclamation points. Some highlights:

Read the rest of the EW article for the highlights.

Apparently, he thanks every single person he’s ever met in his lifetime.  OK, not really, but 3,500 hundred words? Ha ha. LOL.

And for short snippet of all the cuts on the album, check out this link.  I hate making judgments on 30 second snippets, so I’ll refrain for the moment.  I will say, however, it looks like my favorite is going to be “Don’t Let Go” the track David wrote with JC Chasez (’N Sync).  It wouldn’t sound out-of-place on my local adult alternative station.

David Cook on Life After American Idol

He has throngs of devoted fans and will soon be releasing an album, but David Cook says his life now isn’t too different than it was before winning American Idol.

“I think in one sense everything’s changed but in another sense nothing has,” says the reigning Idol champ. “There’s all these different things around me that I didn’t have a year ago. I was able to furnish a home and get a nice car and be able to treat my family to some of the things that I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do.”

But, says the singer, 25, “I’m still a goober from the Midwest. Now I’ve just got a few more resources. I don’t feel like the show changed me at all.”

David Cook Reacts to Jennifer Hudson’s Tragedy

ET was exclusively with David Cook on Wednesday for the taping of his AOL Music Sessions in NYC. The reigning “American Idol” champ talked about his new record, performing on “SNL” this weekend, and reacted to former “Idol” contender Jennifer Hudson’s family tragedy.

“My heart goes out to her,” David says of Jennifer. “I just earnestly hope that she could find some sort of resolution to it somewhere down the line.”

David’s AOL Sessions premiere on AOL Music Nov. 28.

John McCain to Appear on Saturday Night Live

According to FOX News:

John McCain is scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend, FOX has learned.

It will be the GOP nominee’s second appearance on the show this year. He last appeared on the late night comedy show on May 17. Among the skits he did was a faux presidential address where he said one of the key reasons to elect him was that he is “realy, really old.” He also appeared on the Weekend Update segment where he called on Democrat to keep the primary race going on as long as possible.

Runningmate Gov. Sarah Palin made her own guest appearance on the show 2 weeks ago. Both candidates have been the subject of dozens of skits in recent weeks.

No details as of yet on the nature of the skit this weekend and no official comment from the campaign yet.

Also appearing on SNL this weekend as the musical guest…David Cook

I guess Obama couldn’t make it. Damn.

Dancing With The Stars Cloris Leachman on Jimmy Kimmel Live - VIDEO

I found this over at Vote for the Worst. It’s Cloris Leachman’s Dancing With the Stars post-boot interview from Jimmy Kimmel Live.

She doesn’t answer any of his questions. She spends half the time playing with the chair, only to eventually end up sitting on the floor. She is seriously out of her mind! And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Meanwhile, she’s doing a movie with Brad Pitt, and Mel Brooks has given her a call…

Idol Producers Attempt to Block Debut Album from Josiah Leming

I’m still working on headlines this morning, but I just had to dash this item off first, cause it’s totally pissing me off:

JOSIAH Leming, a homeless singer whose mother is dying of cancer, might be blocked from releasing the album he recorded because he was a contestant last season on “American Idol.”

Leming, 19, who didn’t make the show’s top 24, received an official letter from “Idol” threatening legal action if he puts out his record in January as planned.

“Idol” contestants must sign strict contracts with the show’s producer, Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment, promising to record only with the label chosen by “Idol” - Sony/BMG. The 19 Entertainment shop also retains exclusive right of refusal for management and merchandising.

Simon Fuller is pulling the “first right of refusal” card with Josiah? Now? When they didn’t even want him in the first place??? I’m calling BULLSHIT on those shenanigans.  What, are they afraid a contestant they cast off might be successful?  Stupid, Simon stupid.  The bad PR is just going to blow back in your face.  It makes you look nasty and overbearing.  These kids aren’t indentured servants.  Once you cast them off, let them have their careers.  I said this in comments–Josiah slagged off the producers in an interview with the LA Times, and it didn’t bother me at all.  19 Alphabet makes millions off these kids’ backs.  Really, it’s a two way street.  Josiah owes them nothing at this point.

Leming is now “is racing the clock,” his rep told us. “His mother has terminal cancer, and nothing is going to stop him from getting his music out while she is alive to share it. His album on Warner Records will be released in late January ‘09.”

Leming’s lawyer has shot a letter back to “Idol” producers but hasn’t heard back. “We’re waiting,” the rep said. An “Idol” rep didn’t return our calls or e-mails.

GAH!

David Cook - iTunes App, Pre-Order Available - SNL Appearance 11/01

That new iTunes app featuring David Cook’s single, “Light On”, that I blogged about a few days ago is now available on iTunes.

Here’s how you find it: This link will take you to the iTunes front page. Click on “App store - New!” underneath “iTunes STORE” on the left. Once you get to the app store, click on “Music” underneath “Categories” on the left. You’ll see the app on the front page.

You can also get to it from your device–which by the way, needs to be 2nd generation in order for the app to work. My iPod touch doesn’t qualify. And I swear, even though I said the app was kind of pointless, I probably would have downloaded it anyway. Heh. Here’s some more information about the “Light On” app from the press release:

The interactive “Light On” App turns an iPhone or iPod touch into a “virtual” lighter while playing Cook’s single “Light On.” Using the iPhone’s unique technology, fans simply “flick” the iPhone or iPod touch and the flame goes out while the song fades out. The application also provides links to the iTunes Store to listen and buy Cook’s new hit single or pre-order his upcoming album. Additionally the application allows the user to send a message to a friend and links directly to DavidCookOfficial.com, where users can connect with each other.

The application appears to be a social networking device, as well as a fun little gadget. David isn’t alone. Pink, who just released a new album, also has an iTunes app for sale.

For one-stop shopping for all of David Cook’s iTunes music, click this link. You can download his singles, “Time of My Life” and “Light On” or pre-order his album, David Cook, due to drop November 18. A bonus track, “My Last Request,” is available with pre-orders only.

One last item here. David will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this Saturday. It’s the last SNL before the presidential election on Tuesday, and it promises to be a huge show. Ben Affleck is hosting, and rumors abound that democratic candidate, Barack Obama, will be making an appearance.

Saturday will be the first television appearance for David and his newly-formed band. On Tuesday, they performed a dry-run impromptu gig at the Viper Room in LA. This was confirmed by keyboard/guitarist Andy Skib’s father on one of the fan boards. No word on how it went, but needless to say, this Saturday is going to be a major debut. Good luck to David and his band!

ETA: The second dry run will be when David and his band performs on the Wal-Mart soundcheck. You can watch that on Saturday before SNL.

Jennifer Hudson Update - 10/29/08

Update: Update as of 4:35 p.m.: Police recovered a gun today in an alley near where Jennifer Hudson’s nephew was found shot to death inside a sport-utility vehicle on the West Side. It was not immediately known whether the gun was used in the killings of Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew. Earlier today, police sent about 100 personnel to the area near 13th Street and Kolin Avenue to search for evidence. The handgun was found in an alleyway about a block from where the vehicle was parked along the street.

Here’s the latest on the Hudson case, for those of you who are still following it. The police say there is evidence that the murderer did not act alone. William Balfour could have gone to jail in June on a parole violation–he was caught with a gram of cocaine, but officials decided not to terminate his parole. WTF??? Julian Hudson’s autopsy report came back, and his death was officially ruled a homicide. William Balfour’s mother still insists he was not involved. Extra reports that Jennifer is in hiding and surrounding herself with security guards.

Read the headlines below. If anything significant happens today, I’ll update this post. So far, no one has been charged in the murders.

Breakfast at Mix 98.5 Boston With David Archuleta!

First I gotta than Kristen the promotions coordinator at MIX 98.5. for allowing me to hang out at the breakfast! The peeps at MIX were all really cool. Lander, the morning guy did not poke his head into the MIX lounge, (he’s like OZ says Kristen, ha ha) But, Fast Freddie, the guy who does gossip did come into the lounge for a bit. I promised him I’d send him any scoop I found it. Heh.

I just edited this paragraph to add info and fix typos! First things first: Here’s the information I managed to get from David and his Dad: There is a song that David wrote completely on his own for the album. It’s called “Falling” and it’s a bonus track on the iTunes deluxe version. He wrote the song when he was 14 years old. David wrote non-stop the two weeks before the album deadline, because he and Jeff felt there weren’t enough good tracks to choose from for the album. He wrote about 8 songs, four of them are on the album. He wrote the bonus track for the Wal-mart edition with Daniel Bedingfield. It’s an acoustic number, and the “heaviest” on the album. He also wrote “Don’t Let Go” with JC Chasez and “A Little Too Not Over You” with Matt Girard and Robbie Neville.

Booker T. and the MGs join Musicians Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Guitarist Duane Eddy picked his rumbling “Peter Gunn” instrumental and Rolling Stone Keith Richards jammed with The Crickets on “Not Fade Away” as a host of musicians and producers were honored during the Musicians Hall of Fame induction ceremony Tuesday.

Formed in 1967, the Alabama-based Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section played on hundreds of recordings by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Paul Simon, The Staple Singers and Bob Seger.

Kid Rock joined them for Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” while former “American Idol” contestant Melinda Doolittle sang Franklin’s “R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”

Dancing With The Stars - Top 7 - Results - VIDEO

Cloris and Corky are eliminated tonight

Yeah, I suppose it was Cloris’s time to go, but if I’m being perfectly honest, I was hoping it would be somebody else. Especially after this week’s reports of trouble on the set–how some of the cast and crew felt Cloris’s continued survival week after week was “tarnishing” the trophy. Bitch please, a bunch of fame ho’s signing up for a reality show? At least American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance attempt to find new talent. DWTS is designed as pure entertainment, and Cloris entertained. It just wasn’t via the dance floor. Really, I would not have missed either Maurice or Susan if they’d been eliminated tonight. And interesting that there was no bottom 2 tonight…hm. I’m guessing Maurice and Cheryl were really bottom 2, but they pitted Susan against Cloris for the drama.

Next week begins “Team Dances”. It’s something new! And Len will be back, thank Gawd. I missed the old crankster.

Who is Having Breakfast with David Archuleta Tomorrow? I am!

Ok peeps. So check this out. David Archuleta is due to stop by the studios of WBMX/Mix 98.5 in Boston tomorrow as part of his whirlwind in-studio radio tour. I dropped an email to the folks at the Lander in Morning show, asking if I could tag along on any of the listener events they had planned and they said….SURE! So, I’ll be eating breakfast tomorow morning at 9 am with David Archuleta and fans. Cool!

WBMX, Boston’s Hot AC station has a playlist full of Idols  They featured Jordin Sparks as one of the headliners of their recent Mix Fest.  And, they were one of the few stations in the country to put Chris Daughtry’s “Wanted Dead or Alive”  from the Season 5 compilation CD into regular rotation.

I’ll be there tomorrow morning snapping pictures (sorry, no audio or video) and sending messages to my twitter account (also, check out my Twitter tab above). I’ll also be asking questions if I get the opportunity. If you have any, post them in comments.

I’ll begin sending tweets between 8-8:30 am from outside the station, so watch out for those…

Yesterday, David was in Atlanta GA.  Some very excited fans got to meet him at Q100.  Check it out here and
