Idol Headlines for 05/31/09
Source: Jennifer Hudson celebrates pregnancy with baby shower
Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson celebrated her pregnancy today at a downtown baby shower, a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.
The source said the actress and singer is seven months pregnant.
The shower was largely attended by family members, the source said.
Rumors have been rampant that Hudson and fiancee David Otunga, a former reality-TV star training to wrestle professionally, were expecting a baby.
She recently postponed dates on her concert tour with Robin Thicke, claiming vocal cord strain. She has worn loose-wasted tops at some recent public appearances, furthering the speculation.
‘Idol’ runner-up may have edge in marketing
NEW YORK à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Arkansas native Kris Allen took the 2009 “American Idol” title, but marketing experts say Adam Lambert has the edge in selling.
The all-American Allen may be too forgettable to help pitch products, while Lambert’s edgy appearance makes him one to remember.
“He’s glitter and glam rock,” says Patrick O’Neill, an executive creative director at ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day in Los Angeles. “Putting him in something would get twice as much attention as Kris Allen. I was relieved that Adam didn’t win, because now he really has a chance of legitimacy.”

Kris Allen – Huckabee – VIDEO

Former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee welcomed fellow Arkansan, Kris Allen to his FOX news show this week.
After a short interview, Kris performed a lovely version of the Beatles “Yesterday” (properly Allenized of course!) with Huckabee accompanying him on bass guitar.

Susan Boyle Loses Britain’s Got Talent
UPDATE: After the jump, embeded videos of Susan Boyle and Diversity
Big upset across the pond! Despite being the judges favorite, and becoming a world-wide You Tube phenomenon, Susan Boyle, came in second to dance troupe Diversity in tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent series finale.
Gosh, all that publicity, media attention and pimping, and Susan lost? I wonder how that happened. Heh.
You can watch the winning moment HERE. Susan’s final performance HERE.
Susan, after enduring a stressful week of negative headlines after a middling performance of “Memory” last week, performed the song that put her on the pop culture map, her audition number, “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables.
Here’s MTV’s account of what happened after her performance:
After the performance, the show’s hosts acknowledged the ressure Boyle has been underp this week, to which she said: “I want to thank the people for all the support they’ve given me, especially the people at home and people in the audience. Thank you all very much.”
Asked if it was worth it, she replied, “Well worth it! Well worth it! To hell with everything!” Asked if she feels at home onstage, she said, “I really feel at home onstage, of course I do, I’m among friends am I not?” she asked, looking straight into the crowd.

Adam Lambert’s Mother Talks Sex and Contracts
Mum’s the word for American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert’s mother until he’s ready to talkà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and word is, he’s finally ready.
“I would rather not answer until it comes out,” Leila Lambert said in a phone interview with E! News regarding Adam’s reported upcoming announcement to Rolling Stone that he is indeed gay.
But that’s not the real shocker. Check out what she has to say about the behind-the-scenes antics of the Idol camp…
Leila says she also signed a contract with American Idol and is not allowed to discuss her sonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s personal life anyway without their permission.
“We signed a contract with Idol and unless it has been set up by them, I’m not allowed to answer,” says Leila.
Kris Allen on side-mouth singing, lip-synching, and calling Danny a ‘jerk’
On speculation that he and Adam Lambert painted their nails as a campaign to get a Kradam finale. (i.e. at the exclusion of Danny Gokey)
That’s not what we were saying. This is what we were saying: There was this tabloid thing that came out about me and Adam, about how we don’t get along because I’m this conservative kid from Arkansas and he’s this L.A. liberal guy. Which, I could be nothing less than conservative. I’m just from Arkansas. And they were like, “He’s cranky because he misses his wife and Adam’s nail polish is all over the place and they can’t get along.” And we were like, “That’s so stupid. That’s the stupidest thing.” We just didn’t want people to think that we didn’t get along. Because we’re really great, great friends.
On calling Gokey a “jerk” on Larry King Live last Friday, in response to Gokey saying he had picked Allen to win.
That was a joke. Seriously, we’re all really good friends and we joke around with each other so much. It just came out. He’s like my brother as well. We’ve become so close. We’re around each other so much, we just joke around a lot. I hope people didn’t read it differently. I’m sure the Danny haters will. [Slips into a mean, angry voice] “Kris hates Danny!” It’s so weird that everyone hangs on to every word you say. But I’m not gonna change. I’m not gonna not joke around with Danny Gokey.
‘Idolatry’: Danny Gokey on the scream, the controversial photo, and the performance that made him ‘angry’
Here it is folks (and sorry for the delay): Idolatry’s hotly anticipated, five-part interview with Danny Gokey. With apologies to fans of the profoundly awkward, neither Kristen Baldwin, nor her alter ego Kristen With Glasses, participated in this sit-down chat. Idolatry’s commentary episodes may be brutally scathing — a place where EW staffers and I can vent our visceral feelings about American Idol — but if a contestant is game enough to pay us a visit, we’d never go out of our way to make him or her feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. In fact, the goal of these interview segments is to be as unfiltered as possible, but just as important, to give you a better sense of each and every Idol finalist — as I think we’ve seen all season, the best portions of contestants’ personalities often seem to end up on Fox’s editing-room floors. And so it was in that spirit we approached our conversation with Danny.

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert on Best Week Ever – VIDEO

Check out some lulzworthy clips from this week’s Best Week Ever featuring Kris Allen and Adam Lambert after the jump…
Bill O’Reilly Defends Adam Lambert?
As Michael Slezak tweeted earlier today, part of his recent interview with Adam Lambert was featured on the O’Reilly Factor tonight.
But if you were worried O’Reilly would use it to bash Adam, well, no.
O’Reilly uses the EW interview rather clumsily to make a point about gay marriage, and left-wing zealots, but at least he’s finally giving the kissing photos a rest.
O’Reilly cites Adam as a “gay American” who isn’t a “zealot”–due to Adam’s nonchalant response (whatever!) to Slezak’s questions about the O’Reilly segment that introduced the photos of Adam kissing boys to a wider audience.
I wonder if Adam saw this recent segment…
Not spared an attack is Ann Powers of the LA Times, who O’Reilly claims violated his civil rights when she wrote that O’Reilly “tried to denigrate Mr. Lambert” in one of her columns.
He asked the LA Times to correct the record. Of course, since Powers was just expressing her opinion, there was no record to correct.
Poor O’Reilly needs a high school civics class do-over. He seems to have no understanding of the concepts “libel” or “civil rights.”

Kris Allen Visits the American Idol Experience at Walt Disney World

2nd UPDATE: Just added two more videos–a short press conference, and Kris giving advice to contestants from the 11 am American Idol Experience show.
UPDATE: I just added a Q&A video with Kris, after the jump. Check out this photo gallery HERE.
Kris Allen and his wife Katy spent the day today at Disney World in Orldando, where he arrived via motorcade down the parkà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s main street, Hollywood Boulevard, cheered on by hundreds of fans. He performed “Heartless” for a crowd in front of the American Idol Experience attraction.
After the jump, watch Kris perform “Heartless”. The video is the first bit of media posted by Orlando Attractions Magazine, there’s more to come, so keep checking back.

Kara DioGuardi on The View, Plus More on Adam Lambert Coming Out in Rolling Stone and Best Week Ever Preview!
UPDATE: After the JUMP, a preview of Adam Lambert on Best Week Ever, where he has agreed to answer the question that’s on everybody’s mind…
Here’s Kara DioGuardi telling the gals on The View, which aired today, that she never thought Adam Lambert was in the closet.Â
It’s a matter of fact statement, not really meant to be a big deal. But it turned into one after ABC News decided to make hay out of an off-the-cuff remark, knowing the online press, would scoop it up immediately.
And now some of the gays are pissed that Adam’s been coy with the press. Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.
Now, the New York Post claims to have a well-placed magazine source confirming the rumor I reported yesterday–that Adam will come out in a cover story for the next issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
So much ado over nothing. I’m with Kara on this one. I always assumed Adam was out, he doesn’t need to spell it out for me. I’m so not comprehending the fuss. But I am appreciating the hits. Which is what it’s all about in the end, I suppose.
ETA: Of course, Bill O’Reilly has to join the fray–Michael Slezak’s interview with Adam is going to be excerpted for a segment that will air on the O’Reilly Factor tonight.

Fans Brave The Elements To See Kris Allen, Adam Lambert On ‘Today’ Show
NEW YORK à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Fans of Kris Allen and Adam Lambert braved all sorts of elements at Rockefeller Plaza Thursday morning (May 28) to see their respective American Idols perform on the “Today” show.
They didn’t just endure the occasional spritz from the heavens, but also an endless interview with the old bitty who tried to off Gerald Ford, as well as a story about how popular hugging is lately. Regardless, the vibe in the pit was quite celebratory, even though everyone was running on very little sleep and too many sugary breakfast pastries. The Kris and Adam fans got along as well as Hota Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ on the surface things were happy-go-lucky, but you could tell that as soon as they were in the privacy of their own minivans, the disses would fly fast and loose.

Adam Lambert: “If You Stay Tuned, We’ll Have All the Answers You’re Looking For”
UPDATE: Since I posted this article yesterday, there’s more evidence that the Rolllingstone cover article is going to happen. This item in the New York Post quotes an RS source “that Lambert will be coming out officially on the next cover of Rolling Stone.” and in this hilarious interview with Michelle Collins of Best Week Ever, Adam answers “maybe” with some side glances to his publicist when she asks him about he rumors… Meanwhile, big-mouth Kara DioGuardi has gotten her self some press by telling the gals at the View, that she has no doubts that Adam is out.
Adam Lambert may finally answer the questions about his sexual orientation that have been dogging him since the post-Idol finale press tour began last week.
“If you stay tuned, we’ll have all the answers you’re looking for,” answered Adam in response to a question from Elvis Duran in a Z100 radio interview this morning, “Very very very soon, everybody is going to find out what they need to find out.”
That explains Ryan Seacrest’s mysterious twitter today, “What up adam and kris! crushing it on the today show! Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon. They are both superstars!” Oh Ryan, such an insider. NOT.
There’s a rumor going around that Adam’s got a cover story in the next issue of Rollingstone magazine. The speculation is he’ll “come out” via the article.
Throughout his entire Idol journey, Adam has never attempted to hide who he is. Do we really need him to spell it out for us? Seriously, the bulletin is unnecessary as far as I’m concerned. But whatevs. Maybe the press will shut up about it already if he finally admits the obvious.
ETA: I just had another thought. EW’s Adam B. Vary hit Adam up with the sexual preference question the night of the finale. If Adam had been forthcoming, his answer would have overshadowed everything else–including Kris Allen’s win. Adam stealing Kris’s thunder would have been totally uncool. So, journos, how about allowing Adam and Kris to focus on Idol as they make their post-Idol media rounds? ‘Cause the minute Adam ‘fesses up, the gay thing is all you peeps will talk about.
Listen to Adam’s Z100 radio interview here:
