Adam Lambert Tweets “AMA Performance Was a One Time Event”

Some recent Adam Lambert tweets posted before Adam taped the Ellen DeGeneres show this morning.

ellen:airing 2m.Singing ‘whatya want from me’! AMA performance was a one time event. Goin in a new direction now. Focus back on the music.

Don’t worry friends: I’m still gonna be me. Always. W/o appologies. Just gonna experiment differently w how I present myself.

And thank you all for your kind and supportive tweets. Means more than you can imagine. It was a looong week. :)

“Whataya Want From Me”, the song Adam has been performing on morning shows, appears to be the new single.

Both KIIS Los Angeles and Z100 New York have added the song to their playlists–a very good sign. When they big guys begin spinning a song, the smaller stations typically fall in line.

As far as Adam’s statements that he’s   “going in a new direction”, but he’s   “still going to be me”? I’m guessing he’ll be toning down the TV performances, and saving the OTT stuff for the concert stage. A smart move, if you ask me. Adam doesn’t need to propel his career on controversy. His talent is enough to sustain him. And right about now, it’s time to focus on promoting the music.

Adam’s Ellen appearance will air tomorrow, December 1.

Kelly Clarkson and Eric Hutchinson Sing MJ’s “Rock With You” – VIDEO

Last night Kelly Clarkson took the stage in San Jose, CA,   with her “All I Ever Wanted” tour opener, Eric Hutchinson,   to sing “Rock With You”.

I think Kelly may have started in the wrong key! Still, I love it when Kelly does covers!

Disney reviewing live shows after Adam Lambert Performance

ABC’s parent company, Disney is reviewing the steps it takes to vet live performances in the wake of Adam Lambert’s American Music Awards performance.

I’m not sure how Disney can stop artists from improvising on stage, unless they spell out the consequences of deviating from rehearsal up front. It’ll be interesting to see how future live performance shows play out.

BTW, I think Disney knew they wouldn’t have a problem with Adam on GMA, they canceled his performance to punish him and show him who’s boss. Disney was also setting Adam up as an example, so that artists will think twice before they go off script.

via Reuters

Disney/ABC Television Group President Anne Sweeney told Reuters that in reaction to the Lambert performance, Disney was reviewing the steps it takes to vet live performances by getting assurances from artists that their stage shows will resemble their rehearsals, and using contractual obligations to hold them to that.

“We certainly don’t want to suppress artistry at any level, but we also have to be very cognizant of who our audience is,” Sweeney said at the Reuters Media Summit on Monday.

She added that it was the right decision for ABC to cancel Lambert’s scheduled performance on “Good Morning America,” noting that many children watch the morning news show.

“We really had to take the decision very seriously and found that his performance was very unpredictable at night and (we) didn’t know what to expect in the morning,” she said.

Kris Allen – The Bonnie Hunt Show – VIDEO

Kris Allen’s appearance on the Bonnie Hunt Show aired this morning.

Taped post-AMAs, Bonnie asked Kris what he thought of Adam’s performance on the awards show (“That’s Adam,” says Kris) and how he balances his young marriage with his equally young music career.

After, Kris and the band performed his single, “Live Like We’re Dying” from Kris’ self-titled post-Idol debut.

Update: Kris also performed a Christmas tune, that will appear on a later broadcast. Watch out for that!

Susan Boyle’s debut album tops Britain’s charts

LONDON ‘” In the contest, she finished second. But on the charts, she’s number one.

Susan Boyle’s debut record, “I Dreamed A Dream,” entered the British album chart in the top spot Sunday. The 48-year-old Scottish songstress famously finished second on “Britain’s Got Talent,” but the variety show launched a career that has seen her win success on both sides of the Atlantic.

According to the Official Charts Company, which tracks music sales in Britain, the more than 410,000 copies of “I Dreamed a Dream” sold since its release Nov. 23 make it the fastest selling album so far this year, and are the largest first-week sales for a debut album in U.K. chart history.

Cowell to take ‘X Factor’ to Vegas

When Simon Cowell’s “Amer ican Idol” rival show “X Factor” comes to the US, expect the rallying cry to be “You’re going to . . . Las Vegas.”

Cowell, who is still in talks with Fox and NBC about bringing the talent show to American TV, said over the weekend that his plans are to set up shop in Las Vegas when the deal is finally done.

“Vegas is tailor-made for this show,” says Sir Philip Green, the retail store-billionaire who is now partners with Cowell.

“To sing in Vegas? I mean, hell, you get to the final 12 [and tell them] ‘Your dream’s come true — you’re going to sing in Vegas!’ ”

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Up Until Midnight 11/29/09

This week, the Idol activity is on the Pop chart. Kelly Clarkson’s “Already Gone” has become a top 5 Pop song, while Daughtry has another Top 40 pop hit and Kris’s LLWD jumped up 5 spots. Kelly continues to dominate the top spot on HAC for the third week and Daughtry’s new song has moved into the Top 20. That gives him two top 20 songs in HAC at the same time. Meanwhile, Ruben racks up yet another top 20 on UAC. It’s getting chillier by the week on AC with very few non-Christmas songs showing a positive spincrease. But, good news for Archie fans as one of his Christmas songs puts him back on our chart. We say goodbye to Adam Lambert and Bucky Covington, but Adam’s second single is getting a strong push, so we should soon see him back.

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of midnight of 11/29/09 after the jump.

Adam Lambert Upright Cabaret Pal Shoshana Bean Performs Show in NYC 11/30

I got a call last night from from Chris Isaacson, co-director of the Upright Cabaret, the Los Angeles cabaret that Adam Lambert called home prior to Idol,   to tell me about a special show they’re producing for Broadway star, Shoshana Bean in New York City Monday night.

Shoshana   had starring roles in Wicked, Hairspray, and the off-Broadway revival of Godspell.   She and Adam performed   together many times at the UC, and have been very supportive of each other’s shows.

And here’s a bummer:   Adam might have popped into Shoshana’s show to perform with her, if he hadn’t had to jet back to LA to tape the Ellen DeGeneres Show for Tuesday. Sads that won’t happen.

Anyway, here are the deets for Shoshana’s show, inspired by the music of Barbra Streisand:

When: Monday, November 30, 7:30 pm
Where: Fredrick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York City, NY
Tix: www.jalc.org or ShoshanaBeanAHappening.com (212) 258-9800

SAVE 25% with Discount Code “Streisand” courtesy of Upright Cabaret.

Shoshana will perform many Streisand classics, alongside original music from her debut album, Superhero. Musical direction by James Sampliner. Directed by Billy Porter.

Danny Gokey – Grafton High School – VIDEO

Danny Gokey performed “My Best Days” and “It’s Only” at a holiday event at Grafton HS in Grafton, WI (about 20 miles north of Milwaukee) yesterday (November 28).   Danny has friends and family in the area.

Danny tells the crowd that he’s the first 3rd place American Idol finisher to be signed by 19E. He’s returning to Nashville today to resume his country radio tour promoting his new single, “My Best Days”.

A digital single will be available on December 22, with a full album arriving early next year.
