Good for Carrie. Was Faith Hill a nominee? If so, did she again present us with a faux pas?

Congrats to Carrie for the BNA!

angelia, no Faith was not nominated, but LeAnn was. Hehe.

Is Carrie and Romo still an item?

On one hand, I say congratulations to Carrie. On the other hand, I’d like to think this is just an indication of the sorry status quo of country music.

    Congrats to Carrie
she sure has a nice voice but what is with the constant changing hands on the mic? wonder if that is from nerves?

    Dear Gracious Carrie,

That is the way to thank American Idol.

    Good Job!”

I think that she should thank Idol since Idol made her album and managed her career.

Idol didn’t make Kelly’s current album or managed her career….they had nothing to do with the reason why she won for THAT ALBUM. Not thanking them for her win last year doesn’t mean that she’s not gracious or thankful to them…She was away from Idol for 3-4 years.

Congrats Carrie! You are awesome! :D :)

And Thanks MJ for putting up the Go Fish.

Congrats to Carrie for winning! But honestly now…since when did the Grammys turn into the Country Music Awards? Dixie Chicks winning FIVE awards?!

  14. 14 RightSaidFred Feb 12th, 2007 at 3:49 am

The momentum behind this thing just doesn’t seem to wane. This is yet another boost to sales of the debut album…like it needed one. There are albums with legs, and then there are what - tentacles?

Good for Carrie. My favorite performances last night were the Police, the Dixie Chicks, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Carrie did fine with her songs but just wish that the Eagles were there to do their own songs.

bean99, I agree with you and would add the nice threesome of Rae/Legend /Mayer. Their set was wonderful.

I know. You hear the Eagles sing those songs and everyone else pales in comparison. The only one who has ever done a decent job with “Desperado” other than Henley is Linda Ronstadt.

Carrie has never done a thing for me. I think it is the lack of character in her voice. It is a great voice. She is beautiful. But country singers need to have a bit of edge and depth for me to like them and Carrie has none of that. Her album is just ok for me. Nothing special about it at all other than it is inoffensive country stuff, sung very well.

I’m with you on Carrie- I know she is beautiful and is a good singer but watching her perform live all I could think about was “MY GOD AND TO THINK THEY COULD HAVE HAD TAYLOR” . I know she deserves to be there because of her success but there is no passion in her voice, nothing that creates any emotion or feeling. With Taylor it is so different than with some of these people with beautiful voices but no real connection musically (at least with me) when they perform.
Also the constant hand changing on the mike is something she has always done ( I assume it is nervous energy) but I find it distracting.

    what’s funny?

Carrie did amazing job with Desperado..i loved that performance and congrats to her on winning BNA..And i know these were not CMA but country music is gettin more and more popular each day so this could be a sign of that.

  20. 20 iloveoliver Feb 12th, 2007 at 7:04 pm

Good for Carrie but since when did the Grammy’s become the CMA’? I didn’t like her version of Desperado but I am big fan of the Eagles. Same thing with Rascal except his was worse.

I enjoyed the Police and I also like John Mayer.

  21. 21 shay Feb 12th, 2007 at 7:40 pm

I didn’t care for her Desperado either. I’m not a country fan though, so Carrie doesn’t interest me or any country singer for that matter. Interestingly - I think Bo did Desperado either on the AI tour or on his own after that season. Much prefer the male voice doing that.

She’s very pretty and has nice teeth though. :biggrin_wp:

  22. 22 angelia Feb 12th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

About the Dixie Chicks, when did they become country artists? I don’t know of any country station that has played their songs in years. You won’t see them nominated for a CMA award.

  23. 23 shar Feb 12th, 2007 at 9:28 pm

Angelia, the Dixie Chicks started out as country artists and in fact won CMA awards and sold millions of cd’s in the country genre.

When Natalie spoke against Bush, many closed minded red neck coutry artists and clear channel owned country channels quit playing their music. Many country music people took a page right out of Hitler’s propoganda manuals and burned their cd’s. Some even went so far as to tell them to shut up and sing or they would be killed. A wonderful group of people,EH?

Anyway, this cd has vindicated them, that and the realization even among some of the dimmest in this country that we have been lied to,lost many young lives and killed many people needlessly while bankrupting the treasury at the same time.

Carrie is boring as hell, she had no personality while on idol and that grand tradition continues.

She does indeed have pretty teeth, hpwever.

  24. 24 radname Feb 12th, 2007 at 9:44 pm

Carrie’s stage presence has come leaps and bounds since idol, she’s actually moving around on stage! i love her, and some people here seem to think that if you have a pure tone in your voice it’s lifeless

  25. 25 jobbix Feb 12th, 2007 at 10:43 pm

The Dixie Chicks is the most important thing happened in country music in the last ten years. If they are blacklisted by country radio stations and fans, then screw you country music! This genre is as good as dead to me anyway. Don’t think CarrieBot can save it. She got the voice but no soul at all…..

  26. 26 schmed Feb 13th, 2007 at 12:47 am

I have to agree with the Carrie skeptics. She’s got a great voice, but she still doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. Listen to her sing on the Eagles songs–she consistently fails to finish the lines in full voice. This was most evident of course on “Desperado,” but look at the end of “Life in the Fast Lane” where the Rascal Flatts singer holds the last note longer than she does! These llittle things matter. For contrast check out the video of Melinda Doolittle’s audition–each line of the song is fully, beautifully rounded out.

    Oh Brother…

Congratulations Carrie! You did great and you definitely deserve it!!!

I watched the Grammys. I was glad to see Carrie win, and I thought she really sounded wonderful, notwithstanding that I couldn’t handle the very old-time country style of the first song she performed. But think about it - Two years ago she was sitting in her house. Two years later she’s freakin’ headlining THREE SONGS at the ever-loving Grammy awards!! Excellent.

I didn’t see it in this post - but the gal who won the right to get on stage with Justin Timberlake, Robyn Troup, auditioned for AI Season 6. No word outside of conjecture from the spoilers as to how she did.

  29. 29 xoxoyc Feb 13th, 2007 at 10:56 am

Carrie and Taylor can not be compared. Carrie is a true country singer in every sense of the word. Carrie is about the voice- and she has a great one. Taylor sings a completely different type of music and is more of a performer than Carrie is.

There are nearly 5 million people who agree.

And Carrie can be partially credited for doing a LOT to save country music this year- with her having the biggest selling album of the year. She has also tread down paths that no female country artist has done in years with her success at country radio. Carrie has opened doors and increased the popularity of country music greatly.
    :)

Carrie is one of the most talented people to ever win AI and I am very, very happy for her success. She has connected with America. CMA awards, Dove awards, Grammy awards, and 5 times platinum- yeah not bad.

  30. 30 Sirie Feb 13th, 2007 at 11:14 am

Carrie was FANTASTIC! She deserved to win Idol and deserved every award since then, IMHO…
