Did Clive get Ace an extra job moving boxes backstage? Is that why he’s dressed that way? Or did he miss the memo that said that the Grammys were going to be televised this year?

Oh, and here is another indication that I’m a rube: Is it stylish just to tuck in the front, middle-center of your shirt and leave the rest hanging?

Has Fantasia’s hair stylist been outed yet? Is she some bitter Diana fan that finally got her revenge?

Has Fantasia’s hair stylist been outed yet? Is she some bitter Diana fan that finally got her revenge?

    BWAH!!!!

Fantasia looks like she just stepped out of a box of crinkle paper. I think her designer is in cahoots as well.

Oh, and here is another indication that I’m a rube: Is it stylish just to tuck in the front, middle-center of your shirt and leave the rest hanging?

LOL. Let’s hope Ace changed clothes. Is that shirt (?) he’s carrying a Randy Jackson pajama hand-me-down?

Oh, and he’s been doing that form of tucking his shirt in since he appeard on Idol and perhaps before. I think he even did it on the night he sang “In the Still of The Night” and wore that dark blue dress shirt. Not that I was paying attention or anything…

    *whistles*

Is it stylish just to tuck in the front, middle-center of your shirt and leave the rest hanging?

Yep… guys have been wearing their shirts like that for a while now. In college, we used to call it the “preppy boy front tuck”. We made LOTS of fun of it.

  5. 5 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 6:52 pm

In college, we used to call it the “preppy boy front tuck”. We made LOTS of fun of it.

Really? LOL. I thought it started in the hip hop community?

  6. 6 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 6:56 pm

Oh I have no idea where it started. I just know that the only guys at the college I went to who wore their shirts like that were the preppy, pretty boys. LOL.

  7. 7 Kirsten Feb 10th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

Is that shirt (?) he’s carrying a Randy Jackson pajama hand-me-down?

I was thinking it was a fancy dishcloth for removing spots from glasses (perhaps he’s helping out Taylor on bar duty?). But you may be right. Ace may have taken to routing through Randy’s garbage looking for something to wear. Randy is all about hip (although Ace’s watch doesn’t have enough bling on it to be from Randy’s collection).

Thanks for the explanation on men’s styles. Obviously, I hang around very unstylish men, but in their defense, engineers do have the latest styles in pocket protectors.

Of all the dresses I’ve seen so far tonight, I LOVE Natasha Bedingfield’s. That color is beautiful and it’s just gorgeous.

Carrie’s dress is really pretty too.

    Rihanna’s? Absolutely AWFUL.

ETA: I just noticed that the hot Daughtry drummer doesn’t have a date with him. *raises hand to volunteer for future awards shows*

  9. 9 Kirsten Feb 10th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

Carrie’s dress is really pretty too.

I must disagree. It looks like Frauline Maria got busy with the curtains again.

Either that, or somebody skinned a couch from the 70s.

  10. 10 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

Well, some floral I like, some I don’t, but I do like Carrie’s dress. It’s different, at least. It’s hard to imagine Carrie, of all people, wearing something to break up the monotony of all the boring dresses.

I like the color of Nelly Furtado’s dress… but I’m not sure about the dress itself.

ETA: Do NOT like Beyonce’s dress or Chris Brown’s suit. Yikes.

  11. 11 CarieB Feb 10th, 2008 at 7:49 pm

Are you guys watching a red carpet show? Nothing’s on here in CA yet. I thought there would at least be something on Access Hollywood or something.

I, too, like Carrie’s dress. Again, nice to see her in something other than beige. If Fantasia was really going for the Cruella de Vil look, she has succeded. Ace looks really cute with than Million Dollar smile of his. Too bad they didn’t win for INO, but you know, Bruce Springsteen ain’t exactly a slouch.

  12. 12 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

Yep, Carie. E’s red carpet show is going on…

Oh I forgot to say that I actually really like Fergie’s dress. I don’t do yellow, but it looks fabulous on her.

ETA: Faith Hill’s dress is GORGEOUS. I. love. it. Favorite one so far.

  13. 13 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Missed the red carpet as I no longer have cable. Alicia Keys looks and sounds fab… too bad Frankk Sinatra is her duet partner. I hate duets with the dead.

  14. 14 vegasdee Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:06 pm

You all peeps on the east coast feed have to rub it in for me here on the west coast, huh? I’m expecting updates my peeps, points at pj and sarah.

  15. 15 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

I’ve been reading up on sports, but I’m in chat now if anyone wants to come in. :)

Alicia just beat out Fantasia (and others) for Female R&B Vocal.

  16. 16 CarieB Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:14 pm

Thank you, Sarah. Guess the actual show has started now where you are.

*waves to Vegas*. I expect updates too - I’ll keep checking back.

    ETAL Heading to chat now.

  17. 17 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Vegas, Alicia just won for “No One!” Didn’t catch the category. I love her dress and hair. Hair is very old school jazz.

Carrie performed “Before He Cheats in knee-length black eff-me boots and a black shorts ensemble. Girl can sang. She looked bad, though. She doesn’t do slutty Shania-wear very well.

  18. 18 Lu Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:18 pm

    I’m sangin!!!!! Jungle Love -o wee o wee o wee o!

  19. 19 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:27 pm

LOL, Lu! I love the Time. Join us in chat. :-)

  20. 20 Chicago-sally Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

The TIME– OHMG, I love it. Riri is a little stiff, but they are smoking!

Is the music ind. turning Carrie into Shania? Hmmm…me wonders.

Got a shot of Fantasia and her boyfriend, Rapper — somebody help me with the name?

  21. 21 Tracy Feb 10th, 2008 at 8:47 pm

I wish Ace had dressed it up a bit more. He could have worn a button down dress shirt and it would have been fine.

He, as in himself, looks good, though.

ETA: Pre-tuxedo? There are pics of him in a tux, MJ?

  22. 22 JP Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:03 pm

Ace could wear a burlap bag and look hot on the red carpet. Having said that though, what ever happened to that $2000 designer suit he bought to wear when he sang “That’s All?” We haven’t seen it since and it would’ve been perfect for the Grammys.

  23. 23 Kirsten Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:06 pm

OMG. Chris had a suit made out of that shiny black foam that they wrap electronic items in. Is it anti-static? Is he afraid that lightening might hit him in the theatre? What kind of performances does the Grammy organization have planned?

Now I’m excited at the concept of random static discharges!

  24. 24 BigNLiddle Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

daughtry has lost all so far but “best rock album”…which he has a slim chance of winning i think

    he’s against:

    Daughtry
    Daughtry
    [RCA Records]

    Revival
    John Fogerty
    [Fantasy]

    Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
    Foo Fighters
    [Roswell/RCA Records]

    Magic
    Bruce Springsteen
    [Columbia]

    Sky Blue Sky
    Wilco
    [Nonesuch Records]

  25. 25 BigNLiddle Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Fantasia has lost all her categories. Kelly didn’t win with her duet with Reba. Carrie didn’t win for her duet with Brad Paisley. Mandisa lost hers as well.

  26. 26 Chicago-sally Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:23 pm

Be still my heart — Tina Turner –! Is she just the greatest?

  27. 27 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

I didn’t expect Daughtry to win any of their categories. They were up against heavy hitters in all of them.

I think Foo Fighters win Best Rock Album because they don’t stand a chance in the Best Album category against Amy Winehouse and Kanye West.

  28. 28 daisy Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

OMG- Tina, I love you Girl, putting all others to shame, great great performance..

  29. 29 Linny Feb 10th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Ace still makes my toes curl, but he needs to know that when you go to a big industry event, you dress up. At least a little. Looks like he took a shower, grabbed a shirt, and ran down the block to the venue.

  30. 30 Ladybug Feb 10th, 2008 at 10:26 pm

Vince Gill to Kanye = ZING!! (HA! Loved it. Can anyone GET more pompous than Kanye??)

Well, Daughtry’s wins equal the shape of his head - goose egg.

Some good performances tonight. Beyonce and Tina. Alicia and Frank. The Foo’s and the Orchestra. But I dearly loved hearing how great Keely Smith sounded with, of all people, Kid Rock. That was a wonderful duet.

ETA: Gershwin “Rhapsody in Blue” was incredible! Best performance of the night.

  31. 31 NOLA Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:08 pm

You’d think as much money as little d has made over the past year, he could have dressed his wife in something besides a gold lame` toga. Good gravy, what a fashion disaster.

  32. 32 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

But I dearly loved hearing how great Keely Smith sounded with, of all people, Kid Rock. That was a wonderful duet.

Seriously? I thought that was a really pathetic attempt at jazz by Kid Rock.

Best performance… Kanye and Daft Punk. Next.. Beyonce and Tina.

  33. 33 neonorange Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:18 pm

Missed the show but looking at the pics it looks like it would have been mildly interesting. Fantasia looks like she put her dress on backwards (at least from the waist down). Carrie’s dress is a hot mess but I like the hot pants. By the looks of the other Daughtry band members suits, Chris must be keeping most of the dough - very Warehouse for Men. Ace is looking … well … like Ace. Rhianna either got in fight with a tiki hut and lost or she got on board with the elk hair look from Chris March’s line (Project Runway).

  34. 34 NOLA Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:20 pm

I, too, thought it was a great duet with Keely and Kid Rock.
BTW, I loved Carrie’s floral gown.

  35. 35 nomi Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

Does Herbbie Hancock have a portrait in the attic? He’s 68 FGS!!!

    Congrats to him.

  36. 36 pj Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:31 pm

    Aww Herbie! Yay!

ETA: He’s so fun on “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me!”

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17537328

Love Kanye, too. Am happy for both. :-)

  37. 37 Sarah Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:33 pm

I still think Kanye should have won. But oh well.

We’ll be hearing about this tomorrow. LOL.

  38. 38 jpfan Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:37 pm

Only caught the last 1/2 hour but enjoyed seeing Amy sing Rehab. Her expression was pretty funny. Good for Herbie Hancock and jazz.

  39. 39 TylerWV Feb 10th, 2008 at 11:38 pm

I loved carries gown. The commentators did too saying it was the lastest thing going into spring. Missed her performance however. Overall, was kinda bored with the whole thing. I did enjoy Tina Turner and the Little Richard et al numbers. I thought Rhianna looked great! Loved her new do. Fergie looked good too.

  40. 40 pj Feb 11th, 2008 at 12:11 am

Carrie’s red carpet dress looks like a bedspread from the Econo Lodge. Not digging the fake tan, either.

  41. 41 Sparkles Feb 11th, 2008 at 1:18 am

Really glad to see that The White Stripes & Springsteen won. Grammy got it right on those 2.

  42. 42 jokiebird Feb 11th, 2008 at 9:24 am

I liked Carrie’s dress, actually. I don’t watch award shows as a general rule but hubby had it on, and I saw her performance–I agree with a PP that she doesn’t do naughty very well.

I didn’t realize Daughtry was up for so many awards. Also agree with a PP, he was up against way too many heavy hitters. I just can’t see him beating out Bruce for anything just yet. Waiting to see how his sophomore album does–is he recording yet?

  43. 43 ealbino Feb 11th, 2008 at 10:19 am

I loved Carrie’s dress, the style, the colors, etc. Awesome performance of BHC combined with stomp.. lol

  44. 44 poporange Feb 11th, 2008 at 10:22 am

Aritha Franklin , Tina Turner and Beyonce took the Former Idol contestnts to school and showed them how it is done. Thier preformances were at a highers level and proved why they been around or in Beyonces case be around for awhile. Still can not believe Tina is 68 wow. I must admit Fantasia from the song I heard from the COlor Purple has the spark too almost thier and Kellie C depending on her direction. I also liked Josh Groban and the other Guy they have great voices and very talented.

  45. 45 Ladybug Feb 11th, 2008 at 1:10 pm

Really glad to see that The White Stripes & Springsteen won. Grammy got it right on those 2.

For once, after reading the various winners in various categories, I think they got it right all around this year, for the most part.

I am no fan of Kanye and his Gigantic Ego, but he most certainly deserved the awards he did get. I have heard a few cuts from his nominated album and actually kinda sorta liked them.

Not so sure about Herbie and the Album of the Year. I was rooting for the Foo’s, but, well, go on with your bad self, Herbie. I think it is great you did win.

And I have had “Rehab” running around in my head all day. It really is one of those songs what won’t let you go.

  46. 46 Grammie Kari Feb 12th, 2008 at 11:46 am

Vince Gill to Kanye = ZING!! (HA! Loved it. Can anyone GET more pompous than Kanye??)

Ladybug, I actually got up and clapped! Mr. West is a bit too much to handle.

Well, Daughtry’s wins equal the shape of his head - goose egg.

    LOL! I am wicked.

Beyonce and Tina - what a terrific performance! One worth seeing again and again. Mutual Admiration Society. So cool!

I felt sad at the thought that this may be Jerry Lee Lewis’ last public performance. He did not look well.

Sorry to hear that guy from Entertainment Tonight voted Fantasia’s dress worse of the night, along with another gal in a blue dress. I thought it was fine. Oh well…
