iTunes has been careful to keep the popularity bars for Idol performances hidden this year, but they screwed up for the wildcard show.

Wildcard Ranking by Popularity Bars:
1. Matt Giraud (about 22% of Brooke sales)
2. Anoop Desai
3. Megan Corkrey(huge gap)
4. Jasmine Murray (about 50% of Matt sales)
5. Ricky Braddy
6. Jesse Langseth (about 50% of Jasmine sales)
7. Von Smith (about 50% of Jesse sales)
8. Tatiana Del Toro (probably purchasing her own mp3 to boost her sale)
No surprises here, with the 4 that got through ranking highest, and Matt and Anoop on top. Although I wish Jesse and Ricky were higher…I guess viewers listened to Simon or I’m not in step with the vast American viewing public.
“Alone” is currently #100 on iTunes Top Songs chart–as you can see, these wildcard performances aren’t exactly chartbusters.
Thanks to Lady Madonna for the reminder that “Hello”, “Imagine” and “Hallelujah”–3 live semi-final performances from Season 7–all appeared in the iTunes Top 10. These sales are pretty pathetic by comparison.
I’m not surprised–the semi-finals are over, and there hasn’t been one watercooler-talk worthy performance, like “Hello”, “Hallelujah” or “Imagine” yet…
iTunes will probably not make this mistake again, but it would be interesting to see how the studio versions of the Top 13 performances sell.
