I want to give a shout out to Brent Michaels from 97.7 the Breeze out of Bakersfield, CA. He sent me audio of an interview he did with JD Roberto Thursday morning. IF I had listened right away, I would have had the total scoop on Clive Davis picking songs for the performance finale. But nooo. I was too preoccupied with my MTV debut! Anyway, one other bit of interesting information. The Finale is at the Nokia this year instead of the Kodak because…the Kodak was already booked! So, bigger and better? No. Dropping the ball? Why yes!
Also, JD thinks that bringing back the wildcard show to give contestants like Michael Johns and Carly Smithson another shot would be a great way to tweak the show. Considering that JD tends to be the mouthpiece for TPTB, I wonder if he’s heard something that we haven’t? Hm.

A wildcard would have been great this season, Mj. Interesting about the Nokia Center because I was thinking how unfinished the area seems. It makes sense now.
i’d have loved a wild card this year for michael johns :)
When would they do the wildcard? At final four time? Otherwise, how would it help a “shock” eliminee?
No worries, MJ… (this is Brent)… your blog gives me much more scoop than I give you, so I should be giving a shout out to you! Which I do, BTW… and I think the MTV thing is very cool… just proves you’re the best at this.
Yeah, I, too, thought there may be more to the story of the wild card thing… To be specific, he was talking about a show that would add one more (I think) Top 12 contestant to the finale (I’m not sure when it would be), and I wonder how a few weeks off might help or hinder that third contestant. Either way, like you and I have talked about, it could be a shot in the arm for a show that may need some kind of twist. Personally, I think it could be cool!
I’m only for a wildcard if we can bring someone from the top 24 who didn’t make top 12 a shot, particularly the fodder. I think Carly and MJ were heavily pimped in the top 24. How can you have a wildcard and bring back #8 and #6? Makes no sense.
However, I would have loved for Alex Lushington to get another chance. Hmm.
I hope they don’t have a wildcard round next season. America voted, if you’re out… you’re out.
When you reach the top 12, the wildcard scenario is just stupid.
Michael Johns is starting to get very overrated in my eyes. Yes, it’s sad that he left when he was starting to get good but really, if he wasn’t tall and goodlooking and he sang the way he did on the semifinals and the Beatles weeks he would’ve been gone even earlier. As for Carly, don’t even get me started. That was far from being a shocker elimination. I hope people stop going on and on about how these two were “robbed” coz frankly, there were very few standout performances from the two of them.
I agree with pj I think it would be unfair to bring back #8 or other position if it means knocking out another contestant who made it all the way to the top 5.
Yeah, I liked Alexandrea, too.
I don’t understand why some people didn’t like that move she made down the stairs on Spinning Wheel.
That’s what I LIKED about her.
It showed she had spunk and personality,
and I loved her style in clothes.
I think a wild card would certainly liven things up. And I would love it if they threw the person into the finale competition. Should be opened up to all top 12, because if you couldn’t make the top 12 you’re probably not ready for the big stage.
A wild card would at least make the finale interesting for me.
At what point would the Wildcard be brought back? It would be unfair to tamper with the Top 10. If they want to bring back two to fill the Top 11 and Top 12 positions that would not be as horrible. I don’t like the Wildcard idea at all. It worked out pretty well for Clay and Kimberly Locke but I hope that they never do that again.
IMO, once the judges choose the Top 24, it should be up to the viewers who vote to determine who should stay in the competition. NO do-overs.
Man… Me too. Why they didn’t do it for MJ and Carly.?
The competition started getting too boring and predictable after MJ left. JMHO.
After MJ left, I knew all along it was going to be a David versus David finale. Keeping MJ and Carly would have kept some excitement.
I am still pissed thet we did not get the chance to hear MJ’s soulful version of Mariah’s “Vision Of Love”. He would have killed that song..
Anyways, I am not worried for them.I heard they both already have tons of offers. Can’t wait for Michael’s CD.
MJ: I am hearing that Cook is Doing a Duet with Mariah Carey…Always Be My Baby…perhaps?
When they did the Wildcard show in the past it was to give the semifinalists that got ousted another shot at the finals. They were only given one shot to sing for viewer votes (top two go on)…. then the WC’s were picked by the judges, contestants the judges thought were overlooked for some reason….. A wildcard show for someone already in the finals is redundent….
Since I have been watching AIExtra JD Roberto has grown on me. JD could give Ryan a run for his money for his job as a host.
I like MJ as a person, but, in my opinion, he was way overrated, as was Carly. I think Michael would’ve done better if he had stayed in the bluesy/soul niche, but, he thought he was a rocker. Carly never did show us who she is as an artist, and, frankly, I don’t care for her voice. Too much screaming and belting to make a song enjoyable. So, just how were these 2 robbed? They had the same chance as those who made it further in the competiton.
Even though I think Simon is a butt, he has helped create some very wealthy people, so, he does have an eye and ear for talent. Michael wouldn’t listen to him, and even shook his head when Simon tried to give him constructive criticism about the genre he should pursue. And, yes, he was hard on Carly because she chose the wrong songs. She’s another one who didn’t know who she is, and, he had high hopes for her.
Unless they bring back the groups of 8 and let the people vote them into the top 12, then a wild card idea is dumb.
Hate me if you will, but I don’t think MJ deserved a wild card. I thought his performances were fine, but nothing stellar. He came across as a good cover band lead man, with the exception of the Dolly Parton song, which was fantastic. But in comparision to the other men, he was not the stand-out performer. I think he came in with all the hype and pimping that anyone ever has received and he did not live up to it. He was treated fairly.
I think the wild card should be for someone Top24 to make it to the Top12. Once you are in the Top12, it is up to you to make it happen, no special favors after that.
