A Little Behind…

Hey peeps.  Yes, I know, I haven’t posted much since Friday.  That’s because I was away over the weekend doing some fun stuff.

What fun stuff you might ask?

Saturday night I saw Elliott Yamin put on an excellent concert at the Starland Ballroom in NJ.  He’s really come a long way as a performer, and his vocals, as always, are INCREDIBLE.  If Elliott’s tour is coming through your town, I highly recommend his show.

On Sunday, I had quite an adventure making my way into the city (heh) to see Fantasia in The Color Purple.  There’s been so much talk about Jennifer Hudson and her Oscar winning performance in Dreamgirls.  Witnessing Fantasia’s remarkable performance as Celie reminded me why, in the end, she won the whole shebang Season 3.

The role spans 40 years in the life of a woman who encounters many hardships to finally triumph over adversity.  An incredibly moving performance, Fantasia lays bare every emotion she’s got right there on the stage, and then some.

It’s no wonder her performance is winning rave reviews. Make your plans and book your tickets NOW peeps.

Watch today’s blog for more updates. I’ll be a posting machine today,  catching up on stuff I didn’t get done over the weekend…

I would love to see Elliott - hope he eventually comes my way.

Fantasia scores in `The Color Purple‘

NEW YORK - Funny how a new star can jolt a long-running show. In a good way.

More important (at least for the producers), her engagement at the Broadway Theatre, where the show is now midway through its second year, has helped the box office. And you can see why in the woman‘s performance.

The actress exudes a gentleness that makes the woman‘s stoicism, some might say passivity, seem palatable and, what‘s more, heartbreaking. And we haven‘t even gotten to her way with the songs……..

Sounds like you had a great weekend, MJ!

Elliott will be here in Ohio this coming weekend, and I am looking forward to lassoing up some friends and checking him out. (And I really envy you your “The Color Purple” experience–from everything I’ve heard and read, Fantasia is stunning as Celie.)

Thanks and glad to hear you had a good time at Elliott’s concert, mj. :)

If there’s one thing I’d like to go to NYC for, it is Broadway, for sure. And I do think PURPLEsmile would surely have a grand time seeing “The Color -ahem - PURPLE.” ;-)

    Hey, Lisa. :)

Elliott - come to Florida - Sarah & I are waiting for you!

I’m so excited about Fantasia’s great reviews. Oh how I wish I could get back up to NYC to see her in this show. I’m happy for you MJ that you got to go.

    Hey, that’s a great photo, mj. :)

Would you have audio of Elliott’s performances, by any chance? I’d love to be able to download some. I remember you used to have a downloads section before, except it was of the AI tour. But just in case… :)

Oh man, I LOVE Elliott! And he’s coming to Portland! Will I be able to see him? No, I will not - I will be in Seattle receiving my Masters Degree. Will he be coming to Seattle? Yes, he will! Will I be able to see him? No, I will not - I will be travelling back to Portland that night. Grrr.

Go ahead, ask me if I’ll be able to catch the Idols tour this summer…Nope, I’ll be in California attending a wedding. But they’ll be in California, right? Yep, the day before I arrive. Grrr again.

It’s just not in the cards for me. Am right there with others, hoping to catch a glimpse of some live Elliott video…

For those who wanted to check to see if Elliott’s tour is coming near you, please check out Elliott’s MySpace. The tour schedule is listed there.

There are lots of videos at YouTube of Elliott singing on tour. (Three tour shows so far.)

I am so jealous that you got to see Elliott! His Atlanta concert on 5-15 was postponed to allow him to be on the results show and I am so bummed. I keep checking both his website and the venue to see if it has been rescheduled yet - but noooo. I fear it will drop off the face of the earth. I hope he decides to do the Atlanta show and continue on to Birmingham (I will catch him again) and then on to Florida for all his FLAFANS. :) I need my eman live.

OMG, he would have won if he looked like that coming out of the gate hair-wise. Even with the teeth.

  16. 16 scooter May 21st, 2007 at 11:28 pm

wonder what maracaibo would suggest for his hair? I like it long and curly much better that how it was on the show but it needs trimmed or something!

bambambam - I think you’re probably right about that! But I wouldn’t wish winning AI on him - he’s doing just fine on the route he is taking, which is making the kind of music he was born to do.

He came to Richmond last Friday, but it was the same night as my cousin’s graduation celebration, so I didn’t get to see Elliott.

I wish he would get a haircut.
