A Roundup of Season 7 Finale Spoilers

The Season 7 finale is this Wednesday. As usual, TPTB are keeping details of the final cheesefest close to their vests. But there is information leaking out here and there. Here’s what we got so far:

  • David Archuleta and David Cook will perform 3 songs according to reliable spoilers on Idol Forums. One will be picked by Clive Davis (!!!) Wasn’t he recently banished to an island for irrelevant record executives? WTF??!!? One will be chosen by the contestants–either a reprise of a song already sung during the season, or something new. The third song will be whatever ghastly song wins the Idol Songwriters Contest. There are rumors swirling that there will be a twist regarding the coronation song. Maybe there will be two winning songs? Perhaps re-arrangements by the contestants will be allowed? If you remember, last year, Blake Lewis was forced to sing the horrid “Here Is My Now” just as it was written, and the results weren’t pretty. Hopefully both Cookie and Archie will be handed songs they can make their own.
  • Paula Abdul will debut a song from her upcoming album, and the Top 12 will also be performing alongside Paula for a special group number. Oh goodie! Yahoo.
  • Two Idols from each of the past 6 Seasons of Idol will be appearing on the finale. Bo Bice has already announced that he’ll be one of the twelve. Yahoo.
  • Jason Castro told an interviewer from the TV Guide channel that each of the Top 5 will duet alongside a special celebrity guest. Castrocopia.
  • The Jonas Brothers will be appearing. Finally, something the kids will love. According to recent Nielsen data, the kids haven’t been loving much about Idol these days.
  • The band One Republic (responsible for the mega-hit “Apologize”. Ryan Tedder from the band recently wrote for Clay Aiken and Blake Lewis) canceled a gig in order to be available for the finale. Daily Press
  • There was a rumor floating about that Bryan Adams would be one of the celebrity guests, but I cannot find the source of that rumor. Anybody???
  • The So You Think You Can Dance dancers will be appearing according to Ellen DeGeneres.  They will preview their routine on Wednesday’s show.

Got some Finale scoop? Post it here please!

I am just floored with reading that David A was incredible singing Crazy. That song just doesn’t seem to fit him AT ALL. I think my boo fits him more than that! I guess I’m in the minority but I don’t like that song. When it came on the radio, it made me feel creepy. I just wonder if he sang it, it would go over the granny voters head. It just seems weird for him to be standing there asking ” If that makes me crazy?”

By the way, I don’t think it would be fishy at all if the song was cleared for him because I’ve read several times when he couldn’t get a song cleared or someone won a coin toss song over him. When it comes down to it, I just want an entertaining evening w/o boring songs.

Not much of a spoiler, but it pertains to wednesday’s finale. got this from IDF:

Make sure you set those TiVo’s and DVR’s! Tune in for the American Idol finale this Wednesday (May 21st, 2008) at 8/7c and keep your eye’s peeled for Mikalah!

She will be in David Archuletta’s home town in Utah hosting his viewing party! They will be cutting to her multiple times during the finale!

Also make sure you watch your FOX news shows this Monday! Mikalah will be doing a press day on Monday, May 19th ALL DAY! So make sure you watch!

  3. 103 Trina May 18th, 2008 at 11:45 am

I thought I had read David did a stripped down piano version of “Crazy”. I could see that working well for him.

  4. 104 mj May 18th, 2008 at 11:54 am

The viewing parties are coming back? That’s unfortunate.

    MJ,
I noticed that the idol pool allows you to put your points on either contestant. Does this mean we can change our original winner pick? Or are you just going to go by our initial pick?

  6. 106 mj May 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pm

    MJ,
I noticed that the idol pool allows you to put your points on either contestant. Does this mean we can change our original winner pick? Or are you just going to go by our initial pick?

The Idol pool pick and the winner pick are two different things. Players had the ability to change their Idol winner pick until the Top 12 began. If you choose that pick correctly, you get 40 points. The weekly pool pick can be chosen up until the finale begins at 8pm ET. If you get that pick correct, you earn 20 points.

  7. 107 jersey May 18th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

That’s what I originally thought, however the weekly pick is telling me to assign 40 points, so I’m confused.

  8. 108 bean99 May 18th, 2008 at 12:26 pm

I’m sorry to read that 2 from each season will be back. How can there possibly be enough time for this season’s idols? Maybe they’ll just do a group sing. :laugh_tb: I guess it’s okay that the top 5 will be teamed with someone but hope it’s better than Meatloaf with Kat or whoever was with Elliott that sang over him. I just want to see Michael so hope he gets a solo or 2.

    Jonas Bros again? yawn…

  9. 109 mj May 18th, 2008 at 12:42 pm

That’s what I originally thought, however the weekly pick is telling me to assign 40 points, so I’m confused.

This final week must be worth 40 points instead of 20. The pool pick and the weekly pick are still two different picks.

There seems to be some confusion over the top 5 duet spoiler.

  11. 111 Duke May 18th, 2008 at 1:33 pm

I think this is the most up-in-the-air finale since ruben/clay…its gunna be a good one….and am i hearing right that the Finale is going to be 4 Hours!!!! Personally thats just not enough for me…

  12. 112 Michelle May 18th, 2008 at 1:43 pm

In reference to the above post about a Rocker Idol being good for the show - I agree but if that were truly the case then Bo Bice would have won Season 4.

I think that year they probably decided the opportunity of having a country Idol was more important, considering the demos of the show.

IMO they tried to get a rocker Idol in Daughtry the very next season but the voters begged to differ :)

The reprises always bore me to death - I hope the guys elect to sing something new for their personal choice.

  13. 113 Kirsten May 18th, 2008 at 1:47 pm

That’s relevant because I’m trying to figure out what group I’m supposed to fit into. Too old (and too married) to be a cougar, I think. Too young and too brunette, I believe, to be a bluehair. So, what’s inbetween?

I’m busy trying to figure out what 20 seconds of her life a female is considered to be an acceptable fan.

    Tweener - Nope
    Teenager - Nope
    Soriety Age - Nope
    Cougar - Nope
    Mom - Nope
    Middle-Aged - Nope
    Grey-Haired - Nope

One and all, dismissed as clueless fans with no taste in music. All rabid voters. All ruining American Idol

Unfortunately, I think that I may have been reading a book during my 20 seconds of acceptability so I never get to be a Cool Fan.

  14. 114 bean99 May 18th, 2008 at 1:48 pm

I know that Michael said in the MyFox Atlanta interview that what’s happening on the finale is all being worked out. I guess we won’t know more for sure until Tues.

  15. 115 Kirsten May 18th, 2008 at 1:58 pm

Asto the Crazy song I also know Jason sang it in audition and therefore why we were never allowed to see his audtion .I would think something very fishy if Archie gets it cleared all of the sudden

It happens all the time. DangerMouse may not want his song as part of the auditions (especially since AI prefers to show the awful auditions…who wants there song to be used to mock people?), but a Finale is an entirely different thing. Presumably, the two best singers of the year are there and they might do the song proud.

Crazy is an interesting song. It sounds so funky in it’s original form, but it’s actually quite a chamaleon song. I’ve heard so many different versions and it seems to work in so many different styles (although, I must admit I haven’t heard the Paris Hilton cover). In it’s short life, it has been covered from everybody from Nelly Furtado to Ray LaMontagne to Prince to Beyonce to Billy Idol to Shawn Colvin.

That said, I don’t necessarily think that if Simon loved Archie doing “Crazy” in Hollywood, that doesn’t mean he’ll still love it. The finals at the Nokia are an entirely different vibe. It must be a nightmare for these guys to select just the right song. I wish they got to pick two of their songs so that they could show us more of who they are.

  16. 116 Paula May 18th, 2008 at 2:29 pm

I think this is the most up-in-the-air finale since ruben/clay…its gunna be a good one….and am i hearing right that the Finale is going to be 4 Hours!!!! Personally thats just not enough for me…

My TV Guide says the finale is 8:00-10:00 PM EDT. I think the voting is 4 hours — not the finale.

  17. 117 Seraphina May 18th, 2008 at 2:38 pm

The viewing parties are coming back? That’s unfortunate.

Agreed. Waste of air time. And my biggest gripe? When they cut away to watch them screaming & waving instead of showing us the whole of the WINNER’s reaction.

  18. 118 Bobbi May 18th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

I’m busy trying to figure out what 20 seconds of her life a female is considered to be an acceptable fan.

Never have you written truer words, Kirsten! It wasn’t until Season Five that I discovered female fans were unworthy and I’ve been trying to solve this puzzle ever since. As far as I know, my money is just as green as any male’s; I am more loyal than most young fans I know; and I am perfectly capable of mastering the ability to vote via multiple media methods. So why does no one want me as a fan? :-(

(I’m saying this in jest, but I do think the attitude kind of stinks!)

  19. 119 jersey May 18th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

Late to the discussion but I agree with Kirsten and Bobbi! Why aren’t my votes and my money just as good as a males? Why are only males 16 - 30 desired as a fan group? In my judgment, that’s actually a pretty fickle group. I really prefer not to be catagorized thank you very much!

  20. 120 dv May 18th, 2008 at 6:18 pm

    from ellen degeneres’ website http://ellen.warnerbros.com/thisweek/:

this is listed for her wednesday’s show -

And, how about a visit from the “So You Think You Can Dance” dancers? They’ve worked up a routine for the finale of “American Idol” and they’re going to show it to us first.

  21. 121 Sarah May 18th, 2008 at 7:01 pm

Ooooh yay! I figured the SYTYCD dancers would be back for the finale, since they were on IGB - and as promo for the new season of SYTYCD, which starts the next night.

I have to say, I loved the SYTYCD dancers on IGB, so I’m greatly looking forward to it - especially after I’ve been watching the reruns of last season’s shows on MTV today. :)

  22. 122 bean99 May 18th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

I don’t watch the show so have no interest in seeing the dancers again. They just annoyed me last time because they got more camera time than the singers.

Talking about Adam does bring up how expensive it is for the families of the idols. I remember Brooke’s husband saying that different ones including Syesha’s fiance stayed at their place. I’ve heard that in previous seasons, too. Carly’s and Michael’s families had very long and I’m sure expensive flights. I don’t have an opinion about David’s brother coming. I guess I feel it’s up to him and the family what’s best for them.

  23. 123 RollTide May 18th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

This final week must be worth 40 points instead of 20. The pool pick and the weekly pick are still two different picks.

So…..if I pick David Cook as my weekly pick, and he wins, I will get 80 points since I picked him as my overall? Of course it’s irrelevant since I’m so far behind but the extra points will be nice. :)

And I agree with bean. I don’t watch SYTYCD, so I have no interest in them bringing the dancers back either. Of course it just gives Fox and AI another chance to pimp something, which they love to do.

  24. 124 KrazeeK120 May 18th, 2008 at 9:49 pm

I have to say, I loved the SYTYCD dancers on IGB, so I’m greatly looking forward to it - especially after I’ve been watching the reruns of last season’s shows on MTV today. :)

I’ve been watching too….it’s brought back good memories of last season.

I’d love to see those kids on the finale, I really like a lot of them, and am looking forward to the new season!

  25. 125 sumidol May 18th, 2008 at 10:21 pm

I was never into watching SYTYCD but today I was going thru the channels and saw the reruns of it were on, on MTV. WOW - now there you have some real talent. It looks like these guys and girls were allowed enough time to get a lot of practise in. Now, I cant wait to see Danny, Neil, Sabre and Lacy in the finale on AI too, on this show there were a 1/2 a dozen “moments” per show!!!. Please, though - I hope they dont take time away from my favorite Idols - they would be a nice accessory to them I think

  26. 126 Terrie May 19th, 2008 at 12:30 am

And, how about a visit from the “So You Think You Can Dance” dancers? They’ve worked up a routine for the finale of “American Idol” and they’re going to show it to us first.

I have nothing against these talented dancers, but this is a textbook example of how to alienate viewers, especially that younger demographic the show is losing in droves. It was bad enough when AI was merely a scouting tool for Sony/BMG. Now it is a scouting tool for Sony/BMG and cross-promotion for Nigel’s other conspicuous investment.

Regarding the spoilers, at this point in seasons past we would know a whole lot more about the finale, even if the info was couched in riddles. Maybe there’s no there there. Between the dancers and the “unfortunate” hometown viewing parties — nice understatement, MJ — and the self-congratulatory retrospectives and the completely unnecessary Idol chatter among the host and judges, that doesn’t leave much time for the actual contestants, does it?

I’m sure Chris Sligh is too low on TIIC’s totem pole but, ever since he blogged about his dinner with Jason on Friday, I’ve been craving a duet between the two of them.

  27. 127 Lisa May 19th, 2008 at 1:52 am

From IDF for Archie: (take with a grain of salt)

Clive: Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me
    Archie: Imagine (Not confirmed.)

    Cook camp:
    Tighter than a ……..

  28. 128 gumby May 19th, 2008 at 2:13 am

I’ve been thinking that Archie would reprise Imagine. It really was his tour-de-force, but not sure if it will have the same impact the second time around.

  29. 129 Michelle May 19th, 2008 at 2:14 am

    Ruh roh, Lacey’s back! ;)

DLTSGDOM…big song, bit dated. Archie should pick something current instead of a reprisal for his personal pick.

Ick, I wonder what ODL has in store for Cook…

  30. 130 Lisa May 19th, 2008 at 2:19 am

The songs above were what is being *guessed* from all the clues given by a certain person on the AI boards. I’m personally waiting for Tyson to weigh in on them.

  31. 131 spanishfan May 19th, 2008 at 6:15 am

If Clive Davis chose Dont Let the Sun Go Down on You for David A, then this is the third time he has selected that song. Does he not know any others. I have nightmares thinking of David Cook singing an edgy Don´t Cry Out Loud. Come on Clive the year is 2008.

  32. 132 St.Lucia May 19th, 2008 at 7:17 am

Oh PLEASE let the Clive spoiler of DLTSGDOM be wrong, PLEASE.

Dear, Clive, do you have only five songs you think are like the “greatest songs EVAH” because, dude, you are musically dead inside.

I mean really that’s another song that needs to be taken off the Idol table.

IF DC gets another Clive song that’s been done a million times I’ll deem him the dumbest man in the music business…oh wait he already is, fine the dumbest man alive.

  33. 133 cheese May 19th, 2008 at 7:36 am

Hmm, what’s the other song Clive knows? “Open Arms”? Please no.

How many times has DLTSGDOM be done? I can think of 4 without wracking my brain at all. Ugh.

  34. 134 merlyhaggard May 19th, 2008 at 9:26 am

I hope Cook sings Iris by Googoo Dolls!! That would be nice

  35. 135 ra.chatterbox May 19th, 2008 at 12:17 pm

I’d love to hear Archuleta sing “Crazy”. I mean I dont understand the hype about him…but if he could sing this song and move me….then I would finally understand why he deserves to be in the TOP 2 (meaning…based on talent not because of the craziness and passion Archuleta fans seem to be putting into voting plus the VOTEFORTHEWORST.COM contribution)

As for David Cook, I like his creativity and artistry. I was also impressed when he sang Music of the Night because it showed that he could actually sing.

I was just slightly disappointed over these past few weeks because he seemed to be building a cheesy rocker image. A la Randy,.,,,I know he could rock it out. I feel like he got vacuumed into becoming a rock balladeer when he could show more range

C’mon, cookie! Please rock it out!!

  36. 136 s fl sizzler May 19th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

The biggest star in the world? In their distorted brains that could mean Whitney Houston … or most likely Miley Cyrus. Who else could fit that description in their minds … it used to be Michael Jackson b4 all the controversy. In Simon’s mind it’s Leona but she’s already been on, as well as Mariah. Britney might have been considered the brightest star in the universe once but now she’s the dimmest and the dullest. Who then?? Or maybe is the second coming of the already DEAD Elvis?

  37. 137 s fl sizzler May 19th, 2008 at 3:33 pm

Just figured out the the biggest star coming to the finale may be Alicia Keyes but I was figuring she was the duet with Syesha. You would think the chosen one would get the biggest. Maybe Beyonce is making an appearance … with little or big D. haha!

  39. 139 cooktard76 May 19th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

dammit, how do i reference to someone else’s comment? the previous “heh, not that he couldnt do it” was in response to the “nightmare” of cookie singing “dont cry out loud.”

  40. 140 DCFan May 19th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

It won’t be Miley Cyrus. She’s in Tennessee working on her new movie.

Im thinking, The Beatles? Paul MCartney and the rest of the beatles using holographic image? I dunno. That would be cool

They said that Mariah will probably duet with Cook (always be my baby??)

    I hope they put U2 on…
