In the Rolling Stone article he says that, “he’d rather chill out and smoke a bowl” (than snort coke). But, I suppose you’re right– perhaps he was referring to a tobacco bowl….

That’s a good thing. But I’d like him to repudiate his smoking habit since I could barely breathe from parents smoking when I was a little kid. Smoking affects other people. I used to have to lay on the floor and just wheeze from the toxic fumes.

Because the only thing we can conclude from the RS article is that he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t use coke anymore, if he ever did, and that he still uses pot. Other than that we know he tried ecstasy for the first time in Europe and used shrooms at Burning Man. But, we have no indication one way or another whether or not he still uses either or how he feels about those substances.

The Adam/ Obama drug use comparison has been touched on many times in comments in various threads since the RS article snippets leaked. And as far as I am aware, the president quite clearly has repudiated his former usage.

Since Lambert appears to be unusually truthful and, being very intelligent, would avoid anything to hurt his career, it seems unlikely that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing any hard drugs now. I find this in context of what goes on in the world today, simply irrelevant. If one is interested in relevancy, however, how about looking at the White House and President Obama who is in thrall to the most addictive, dangerous, and deadly drug of all – nicotine. And, apparently, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still addicted. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s OK, I guess, because (for the moment, at least) its not illegal.

Let’s not forget Mr. Obama’s confessed prior use of pot, alcohol and cocaine. No apology on record for that, no one has asked if if he still partakes of any of the three even on an occasional use.

I highly doubt ABC News would let American Idol, an entertainment show on a competing network, or anybody else for that matter, dictate what questions could be asked in this interview.

Are you kidding? Last summer David Cook got tired of answering questions about Kimberly Caldwell, so he had his publicist instruct the questioners ahead of time that such inquiries were off-limits. If the questioners wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t agree to the condition, they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get the interview, simple as that.

What is newsworthy about a musician doing some drugs? And at that, Adam’s drug use appears to be really occassions — mushrooms once and X years ago in Europe, and smoking some pot? Even Rush L. was adicted to an opiate, chemically related to heroin.

I don’t recall David Cook ever being interviewed on a news show. So I can’t see the parallel with the David Cook-Kim story.

You might be about to put some limits on an entertainment interview, but almost never with a network news magazine like 20/20 or 60 minutes. Or even John Stewart or Steven Colbert. Usually, the limits on the news shows are related to what is liable and slander, and personal lives of famous peoples children. And I would bet real money that 20/20 was able to discuss anything from the RS article.

This looks to me like it was 20/20 editorial decision — they typically only have one big idea for a story. And the big Adam story was he’s gay and open about it, and the hook was the interview with his Mom. And to put a ribbon on the whole package, the ended on the “bi-curious” line. All in all, a very nice, linear human interest story.

Nope! I repeat, I highly doubt that ABC News, or any other network news division, would agree to any such preconditions.

The press is just getting inured to the fact that so many celebrities do drugs and in all likelihood some of the reporters out there are doing them too, it is a very common thing. No one is going to make an issue out of it as long as it does not appear he is currently having a drug problem. I would likely say the producers and reporters responsible for the interviews just didn’t care about the drug issue any more that most of the posters on this website, and it is their interview and they have the right to ask the questions they want to ask. Again just because it is a few people’s crusade, doesn’t make it everyones.

Adam would not be able to maintain his current schedule if he were using hard drugs. And I doubt he could have used them while in the AI bubble where he has been for the last five months. So it seems pretty clear he is currently clean of the hard stuff at least, therefor a non-issue to just about everyone.

Also nobody is going to make him take a stance about his opinions on them, everyone knows true druggies are gonna lie about it anyway, they always say they are clean and drugs are bad, then just turn around and do it again, what would be the point?

Also what if they asked him about it and he said, well yah, I might do it again in the right circumstances? No one is gonna want to publish that, they would get slammed for allowing someone to endorse drugs on their program, and believe me the program would get the blame. They would likely just end up editing it anyway.

And once again, Adam has said he wants to be a singer, not a civil rights leader. Just because he said he wanted to be a role model for kids who are different and came off of AI does not mean he should be subjected to interrogations regarding anything he has ever done in his past life, regardless of who brought it up.

It was smart of him to get it out now, so people are not constantly digging around in his personal life saying look what we found. However I doubt it was his handlers, I think he made those choices himself, he said he does not want to be looking over his should for the rest of his life, and I don’t think he meant the gay thing only.

The gay thing is and has been a huge topic in the news for many months now, and everyone has been pressing for him to answer the question, so that is what people are curious about and want to know, and the interviews were set up to address that question not drugs, especially given the current civil rights issues all across the nation regarding gay marriage.

Also what you need to remember is many of those people (producers and reporters, and some of them likely gay) are based in Los Angeles, and Prop 8 was recently passed here prohibiting gay marriage and the CA supreme court just upheld that decision, given the amount of gay and lesbian couples in CA that is a big and hot topic for the people who live here, we had frickin riots in downtown LA after it was announced it had passed. So while drugs are evil, I dont like or use them myself, but did try them as teen, people losing their civil rights regarding issues such as marriage are simply taking precedence at this time, as they should be, imo.

So while some people might believe everyone is trivializing his drug use, you are probably correct, however those people are trivializing loss of civil rights for gays and lesbians, imo.

Finally, I missed the sex club talk. Is that like Bath Houses?

I gather he says in RS that his experiences were in Europe, so I couldn’t speak to that. In the US, however, yes, they are called “bath houses” or “spas for men.” There are also private, invitation-only clubs. Not that I would know from personal experience, mind you. :innocent2_tb:

Either the reporter and producers didn’t choose to delve into it, or it was left on the cutting room floor. In any event, this is his first major interview since the RS article. Don’t despair, there are many more to come. If inquiring minds want to know about his past or present drug use, it will be asked.

I’ve seen a lot of criticism about it not being up to Idol standards, but I’m pointing out that’s up to the producers when they screen contestants, not the contestants themselves. You’re right. It’s often that celebs say certain questions are off limits. We have no reason to know if that’s the case here. I can’t say that’s not what’s going on here anymore than you can say it is. So, we don’t know for sure. I suspect not. Mileage.

Big assumption. Could just be Adam being Adam and telling the truth. Honestly, an argument could be made that it would be better to hide any drug use until after he has some successful music out there. How many artists have actually lost sales for drug use/rehab etc? Not many, but they’re usually established when it comes out.

If interviewers were diligently doing their jobs, instead of fawning over his stupidly obvious à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“coming outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  party, then theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d been asking him this question. Because thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s never been an Idol that has been so intentionally out their illegal, recreational activities, and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s obviously been done by design as part of his branding/ marketing/ packaging. For that reason alone, the subject deserves follow-up.

I’m guessing they aren’t asking him about it because it’s a non-issue. My sense is that he’s probably not a heavy drug user, but someone who has experimented. I could be wrong… I don’t know Adam. What I do know is that what he described is pretty tame for the Hollywood/music scene. That could be why he’s not asked about it.

Despite the Rolling Stone article, this 20/20 interviewer still feels the need to ask Adam if he is gay. He could have asked him if he was still doing drugs or what his position on drugs was, but he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t.

He’s getting a total pass on the drug issue because he “snuck in” the revelation in his big “coming out” article. It’s sort of analgous to a “rider” being attached to a piece of legislation. So either because the media is so obsessed with the coming-out portion of the story or because press members are afraid of being considered anti-gay by conducting a critical interrogation of other of his disclosures in the piece which was centered around him officially disclosing his sexuality, the issue is being completely skirted.

I have to hand it to Adam’s handlers– they played this very savvy. The drug stuff is getting almost no attention in light of the gayness revelation, but it’s on the record nonetheless, so it’s not like later on there will be “brand new bombshell revelations” about Adam and drugs.

On a separate note, I believe it’s important to make a few distinctions here about what the issues are that people who do have issues with regards to the drug-aspect have, because all of our “issues” seem to be being lumped together by those who are trivializing them. So here are said distinctions (at least my take on them):

1. Most of us probabaly don’t give a crap if he smokes pot.

2. With mushrooms, we’re moving on to a medium-level drug. So does he still use and, if not, what is his current attitude toward use of these and other psychedelic drugs?

3. Ecstasy is a hard drug. God forbid, for him or anyone, but X is one we could wake up one morning and read about him having overdosed on. So, again, does he still use, and, if not, what is his attitude about the use thereof?
