Adam Lambert Discussed on the View 12/07/09

The ladies of the View discuss Adam Lambert’s upcoming performance on the View later this week. Barbara claims his appearance will be taped ahead of time, “People seem to be afraid of what he might do…”

Sherri and Elisabeth mention the Adam fans who “bombarded” them via twitter, calling Sherri homophobic, and warning the ladies to be “nice to Adam”.

Should be an interesting segment! Adam will appear on The View Thursday December 10. The night before, December 9, he’ll appear on Barbara Walter’s 10 Most Fascinating People at 10/9c pm.

If you haven’t had enough Adam after that, Watch him on Larry King Live on CNN at 9 pm Thursday, December 10.

Video after the JUMP…

Well, there is nothing worse than rabid fans complaining. A.I. fans are so passionate about their favorites as if they have an intimate relationship with them, a personal stake in their careers, etc., & therefore they are out in full force though often dismissed as “those A.I. fanatic fans.” They bombard the internet, send emails, do polls, send petitions, post nasty twitters, harrass radio stations, etc. They aren’t the general public. People know that the general public most often than not don’t bother to respond, but there are exceptions.

My take on this, for those that weren’t aware of Adam’s performance on AMAs (YES THERE ARE SOME), the more he is booked & interviewed to discuss his contraversial performance, the more the general public gets up to speed. There are many people out there who did not watch that performance, don’t watch A.I., they don’t generally search the internet or even use the computer, or buy some magazines where he might have been featured. Way to ensure more people are aware of it now. Spread the word!!

I’m sorry but however I look at it ABC comes off as being just ridiculous.

None of us know the heat ABC is getting. They are a business & therefore they do what they have to do. Nobody owes Adam Lambert anything at this point. FCC gets complaints on programs that might not be suitable or don’t have the proper PG Ratings or warnings that some content may not be suitable for younger audiences. Then, the sponsors start suing. Both Disney & ABC will be fined. Hence, Disney will insist that the performers, who were not held accountable in the past, don’t vary from their rehearsed performance. They no doubt will have to record those performance to ensure that the rules are enforced. They want to cover their “butts” so now rather than the networks/stations/whatever paying hefty fines, the performers will bear the brunt. Sometimes there are performers who have done questionable things on TV in the past & nobody make a big “f*ing” deal about it but it takes just one event to be “the straw that broke the camel’s back” and Adam’s performance was apparently just that. What a legacy to have! One can say he was singled out, that may be true, but it was the catalyst.

This may very well affect Adam negatively when he begins to tour. I guess State Fairs are out of the question because those promoters won’t want to risk him being “in the moment” & offending anyone & they are always live performances. Of course, I guess they can ask him to sign a contract explicitly prohibiting him to do certain things (again what a legacy), but there is no guarantee something will occur.

I don’t think Elizabeth should be bashed. I have seen the other co-hosts saying things that I don’t agree with. Isn’t that the point of the show “The View” where there is a diverse group of women there with their own opinions –both conservative, liberal, or in between, and they don’t just “follow the leader” or agree with everything? If everyone on that show agreed & never said anything that might not fit in with others’ opinions, such as Barbara or Whoopie, then there is no point in having the show. If there is heated debate, then that becomes interesting as long as there are no personal attacks against eachother. Seeing all the nasty comments about Elizabeth (by people whose name clearly indicates who they are a fan of) further cements the fact that if you don’t like Adam, then you are wrong & we’ll bash you and insult you… “eating bugs…”

  • GaGaGlambert:

Maybe someone should send this to Elizabeth so she can see Adam was pulling on a piece of costume. http://s674.photobucket.com/albums/vv109/mediawop/?action=view&current=610x-1.jpg

sr4mjc, Fabulous photo – thanks for the link. Look where that dancer’s stiletto heeled boot is placed. If he has the trolly stop, does she have her foot on the break? Or maybe her costume was his way of ringing the alarm ….LOL…sorry…the picture made me say that…I apologize

Adam tends to interview better with the ladies and is less defensive with them, so I think it will go OK.

Best interview ever IMO was with Larry Flick.

Part of me is thinking that he is being thrown to the wolves’ ¦’ ¦.

I don’t think you have to worry. Their pack is not that ferocious.

  • revcat:

For the person defending Elisabeth, I don’t care that she has “opposing views” but she rattles on like someone on crack to the point that the mere sound of her voice bugs me. Plus she is so predictable. I already know what she’s going to say before she says it.

Sherrie on the other hand, you never know which side of the fence she’s gonna be on. I like that. I like Joy too, probably because I usually agree with her as I’m only human, but she’s pretty predictable too. Elisabeth will be polite but still try to get some type of zinger in, Joy will be somewhat amused by the whole thing and make a joke, Barbara will make nice, but Sherrie? She will be nice but only the good Lord can predict what she will say.

Hopefully it will all be good fun. At least they get to hear Adam sing, not sure all of them really know how good he is.

  • LindaT:

Just wondering whether anyone has been tweeting details about the taping of Adam’s appearance. I’m guessing that Adam’s segment would have been taped after today’s show, since the audience would still be there. Has anyone here heard/seen anything on twitter? (Yes, it’s the devil, but it’s all we’ve got.)

LOL…… Thank you, GaGaGlambert. Hopefully, I will sleep better tonight!

His band was in transit today. Think it’s being taped tomorrow.

As much as I love you, sumidol, IDK what this has to do with anything…they all rant about their opinions, and I highly doubt she’s going to attack Adam like a rabid dog or something. Just because she’s conservative doesn’t mean she’s the placeholder for the FCC, whom everyone hates now.

  • stellamarris:

I so wish Adam will start singing some of his better songs on these shows. he has a great album but he keeps missing on these opportunities by singing the mediocre songs everywhere he goes (FYE, and whatday want from me). his first single should have been music again and the second one broken open or soaked. they show his crazy vocal range, different sides of his personality and style and are sooo much better than the ones he actually performs.

  • CariA:

If you are on twitter, people will tweet you. If celebrities don’t want to be “tweeted” then don’t be on there. I find it as kind of like sending a short email to someone. Sorry but if you’re in the public eye, that’s whats going to happen. As far as Adam’s fans being crazy….what’s your point? If people want to stick up for him to someone who is saying negative things about him, good for them. Did anyone complain about the 1500 people who actually called ABC to complain about Adam? No, because it is there right to do so. If you put yourself out there, you have to take the good with the bad. I think Adam’s fans are passionate about him. Plus it gets really annoying that ALL of his fans are lumped into one crazy group. That is not the case. But whatever, it really doesn’t matter. If you think Kris’s fans don’t get worked up, you are dead wrong. It just doesn’t make the news.

  • Awww love you too Holeighannie and it was to another post where someone was saying she wasnt too bad – I saw this and thought it kinda related, no? sorry :-( but – I am not saying that I think she is going to attack Adam or that she is the place holder for the FCC, I dont hate them or her, what they do or what she says will have no bearing on Adams success, in my little mind anyway so they dont bother me one way or the other – this was just amusing to me. I bet they will get along just fine, he is charming.

  • holeighannie:

Ahh, okay, I guess I see your point then, haha. I mean, it’s all subjective, but that makes sense to me. My hope is they do all get along great; there is no reason to assume they shouldn’t, just by politics or whatever. In all likelihood it’ll just be another blip on the radar, with none of explosions people are expecting.

ETA: Also, I’m glad we can take opposite sides on this and still be cool, I’ve always liked you since the Taylor Hicks days! Hahaha.

  • sealily1c:

his first single should have been music again and the second one broken open or soaked.

With due respect, broken open and soaked are highly esoteric and IMHO, not especially radio-friendly. I love them both, but which station would play them?

Music again is also pretty different than what is on radio right now. That is why I love it, but, again, just wondering who would play it? Hard Rock? Top 40? Hit Radio? Sadly, few music directors seem to go out on a limb.

I love this album BECAUSE it isn’t completely commercial. There are songs that will likely never be on radio. And I am 100% okay with that.

FYI, I think Fever is going to be a huge hit.

  • “”Also, I’m glad we can take opposite sides on this and still be cool, I’ve always liked you since the Taylor Hicks days! Hahaha.”"

Awww memories and I am a Kris fan too by the way – I was one of those silly Kradams – just more passionate about this one -

“”FYI, I think Fever is going to be a huge hit.”"
I like that too but do you think If I had you will be radio friendly also or pick you up? Yes – there is such variety on this one cd isnt there, something for everyone which is nice

  • iluvai:

Elisabeth is annoying because she seems to hate a certain part of Adam’s AMA performance, but she sure doesn’t have any problem “simulating” it for everyone every time she gets the chance.

  • holeighannie:

LOL! I’m the exact same, but I fall on the Kris side of things. It’s funny how things work out, isn’t it? :)

Finally! Thanks for finding this. It shows up well, if you recorded on HD too. That can put that “moment’s” misunderstanding to rest (hopefully!)

  • FYI, I think Fever is going to be a huge hit.

    I wish.I think it’s too “sexy” for radio(frm a guy)

  • Tara:

I doubt Adam will get to say much on the View. Those ladies interrupt the guest, each other… even when they ask the guest a question they interrupt and argue with each other. Maddening.
It will be very difficult to watch.

Yes..Fever is my favorite. Too sexy??? really? I don’t think so… and I’m old, lol.

Lights on and your moms not home… love that line.

  • babybelle32:

    This is from idol chatter:

The New York Times says Adam Lambert’s cancelled appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America and subsequent pick-up by CBS for The Early Show “did not seem to have much impact on the ratings of either show.”

Funny, I thought that the ratings for the CBS morning show were supposed to finally overtake the ratings for GMA, and that GMA’s ratings would be in free fall, at least that’s what I read.

Adam returns to ABC for a Thursday appearance on The View that will include a pre-taped performance. (“People seem to be afraid of what he’ll do,” Barbara Walters told The View viewers today.) He’ll also appear on the So You Think You Can Dance finale Dec. 16.

When will the hype end. Barbara will do anything to drum up ratings. They know good and well that Adam isn’t going to do anything that’s over the top, and for the most part, their viewers really don’t care. It’s just like the AMA, tell people that something OTT will happen so that they will tune in. At some point, people will begin to talk substance as far as Adam is concerned, and it will be about his talent, and not what he will do to “shock” people.

  • Funny, I thought that the ratings for the CBS morning show were supposed to finally overtake the ratings for GMA, and that GMA’s ratings would be in free fall, at least that’s what I read.

Wow, I didn’t read that. I know some OTT fans thought CBS would get a good boost, but I didn’t know the media thought there would be a significant change in the number of viewers. I think it would have been almost impossible with the last minute change. Also, I think people who watch the show on a regular basis were the ones watching the show. I don’t get to watch any morning shows because I have to work. I would be surprised if there is much shift in viewship. Besides why watch when MJ provides all that we need. :)

  • Tara I meant the whole doublestandard thing.and the lyrics to fever are pretty ” sexy”—nothing like lovegame though(but it’s a double standard)

  • Gigi3:

I glanced back through the last few pages to get a general idea of the discussion in this post. Hope I’m on-topic!

    1. Earlier today, when I heard about the View ladies’ twitter bombardment, I was curious and searched their @replies. It didn’t seem like they got a lot of tweets, maybe 15-20, then the subject changed to other people/events. Unless I didn’t go back far enough, it seems like an exaggeration.

    2. Tweeting a TV personality hardly seems like a stalkery, creeper thing to do. It’s not like an email or a phone call- a tweet basically just goes out into the nether unless the person takes the time to read their twitter feed. In addition, everyone on twitter has the option to protect their tweets if they choose.

    3. I never watch the morning shows, and didn’t watch the Early Show when Adam appeared either. I did catch it online later in the day, as I assume many people did. It’s so much more efficient that way. With Tivo and online viewing, I don’t even know how Nielsen ratings are relevant anymore.

  • evanjane:

All those that watch morning programs were all watching the Today Show (NBC) with Bon Jovi. The courtyard was mobbed with people, a huge crowd. It was pretty dead over at the CBS morning show, just Adam and the glamberts. ::grin::

  • dcglam:

    ITA!

  • Bon Jovi has been doing the 25 year annivesary thing. I saw it on one of the cable channels a few weeks ago. I’m sure the Bon Jovi show was promoted quite a bit. Plus with them being from New Jersey, I think they get a lot of local love…..and they are a major band.

I thought Adam did well and had a nice crowd considering it was a last minute schedule change. But most importantly, he sang really well. And besides a couple of million people watching is still a couple of million people. :)

I totally agree. I happen to love both FYE and Whataya Want From Me. I feel both of these songs should be radio friendly even though I have yet to hear either of them over the radio. My absolute favorite is Sleepwalker. That haunting background music is just awesome!

That’s what I have seen reported on other sites as well.

No, Adam’s success is firmly rooted in his own undeniable talent.

    And all the hype.

Allison Iraheta Defends Adam LambertExtraTV ExtraTV.com 12/07/09 03:44 PM

Adam Lambert may have sparked controversy with his raunchy performance at the American Music Awards, but fellow “American Idol” contestant Allison Iraheta still has his back. “Let me say, I think he did amazing,” Iraheta, 17, tells “Extra,” adding, “That’s who he is.” Lambert, 27, was upset when ABC censored his performance, but recently admitted he got “carried away” at the awards ceremony.

Allison says that “nobody should have been surprised” at Adam’s sexually-charged performance. “You guys know what Adam’s doing,” she says, laughing. “You know what’s coming.”

After several axed performances, Adam will perform on “The View” December 10.

  • iluvai:

    And all the hype.

I don’t get why Adam’s media attention is “hype”. Like him or not, he is interesting to people.

  • LaurelG:

The band had a twitter party tonight and this was Monte’s response to the question: Any plans yet for New Years Eve for Adam and the Band?

@glambert_1481 oh yes. big, big plans. It’s going to be so much fun about 1 hour ago from web in reply to glambert_1481
