ABC, GMA, and Disney better be real careful how they handle this. I’ll bet a wad that no official statement will be forthcoming and that this whole thing will be swept under the carpet.

And, for better or worse, stuff like this will fan the flames of fame 10 times faster see: Timberlake, Justin’ ¦Super Bowl. Real music fans do not take kindly to ‘one of their own’ getting the shaft. Just take a quick look at musical history.

And to censor someone for what ‘might happen’ is blatantly wrong’ ¦so again, the television powers that be better be minding their Ps&Qs.

adam is a little fish in a big pond in this thing – he is nowhere near big enough to warrant these huge corporations batting an eye with any decision they have made or will make concerning the viability in booking him… they hold the power, he doesn’t, and i can’t see too many folks outside of these internet blogs rallying behind his cause right about now… there is usually a sympathy factor at play in that occurring, and since adam intimates that he is no puppet, or victim, he’s large and in charge of his destiny and career, he hasn’t done much to harness a lot of sympathy for himself… he’s pretty much on his own with this one. 19e may back him, and rca, but i don’t think those companies are sweating lambert too much right now…

If the ‘wheels come off’ a pop performer because he’s sexual and controversial and quickly coming to be seen as too rebellious for the mainstream, it will probably be the first time in history this has happened!

I wouldn’t say that the “wheels are coming off,” but the problem is that people, especially those in the industry, are getting an impression of Adam that doesn’t have anything to do with his musical ability, and it’s not a positive impression. Someone said that real music fans are seeing that Adam is a real musician, but nothing that we’ve seen of Adam post AI, would give anyone this impression. Adam sounded horrible on Sunday, and the song is just not good, which is why stations aren’t playing it, that’s something that has nothing to do with his sexuality. Adam has gotten a lot of press, but the vast majority of it has been about his personal life, who he’s dating, the celebrities that he’s hanging around or collaborating with, the red carpets he’s walking, the parties he’s gone to, etc. His storyline so far has made him look more like Paris Hilton, not Bono. He’s someone who’s famous for being famous, not for anything that he’s accomplished, and that type of fame is not stable, the press and the public have an unhealthy appetite for those who have this type of fame, but the press and public also like to see these people fail.

Adam needs to put the focus on the music, so far he hasn’t lived up to the hype. TFM and FYE were supposed to be hits, and he was supposed to set sales records, but it hasn’t happened. He hasn’t done anything to warrent his current attitude, so he needs to change it, before more people in the industry and press turn against him.

  • Crap- cannot edit!

Just noticed it is an Adam thread and my SuBo comments are OT!!
    Apologies MJ!!!

If this is ABC getting scared, then that just really sucks. Some of us are adults who don’t want this ridiculous censorship left and right. Adam always tones it down for the audiences he has, he would tone it down for this. Sure, they don’t know for sure that he will tone it down, but it just irritates me when network tv is so wimpy about every little thing they show. Everyone is ALWAYS offended by something (rolls eyes).

@TommyJoeRatliff GMA is still on! Didn’t get canceled :) Letterman went great, we had a lot of fun!!!

Exactly. Anyone tell their kids NOT to do something. That makes them want to do it all the more!!

If the GMA performance really is canceled, something Adam said this morning in his Elvis Duran radio show interview may be a key. He claims some things he did on the AMA show were spur of the minute and he didn’t even know in advance he was going to do them. That kind of spontaneity and unpredictability may be fine for a live stage performance where the audience has bought tickets, but questionable for TV broadcast into people’s homes. I can understand that ABC might be wary of risking what might happen on GMA based on the AMA performance.

There’s an old saying… Once burned, twice shy!

  • Truthiness:

New rumor- the CBS Early show will have Adam on tomorrow

Well it’s just a rumor at this point, yes?

And I feel badly for the people who were looking forward to his GMA show and planning for it. Sucks for them, and so last minute as well!

  • Keel:

I sure hope they didn’t cancel Adam. That’s to their detriment if they did. And this time, I really do feel that it’s discrimination if they do so. (And no, I’m not an Adam apologist and thought he did lousy on Sunday night and the simulated fellatio was rightfully removed from the west coast feed.) When has GMA ever cancelled an appearance like this before based on not being ‘assured’ that the musical guest will behave? They likely got a ton of complaints from anti-gay groups (masquerading as parent or other conservative groups) and they caved. (Assuming that his appearance is indeed cancelled, of course.)

GMA has been around for a long time, so I think they’ll be able to withstand the brunt of the Adam Storm, Adam Bomb, or whatever it is today.

Ok I’m REALLY sorry for the mix up!!! I JUST found out that we are not playing GMA. We ARE playing The Early Show!”

  • Miss Chaos:

In his interview this morning he never mentioned the GMA concert, I questioned it then about it being cancelled, Adam really toned it down for the interview I thought, someone is telling him to hold it in, he wasnt the aggressive person the night he was after the show. TEEHEE this is all to funny, I hope Adam addresses the cancellation. Barbara Walters was mad at her network, ABC, for there discrimation of the show, Another contraversy. Why cant Adam just sing and leave all the other shit alone, altho I think the news loves stirring the pot!

Through all of the hype and press, for both Susan and Adam…People aren’t going to buy an album if the music sucks. No matter how much hype and press they get…if the music sucks then albums wont sell. Every artist has their backstory I don’t care who they are. Ultimately it IS about the music. You can do all sorts of things to get noticed, which most famous people do at some point, but if they are putting out horrible music that no one likes they will tank. Susan is a very talented singer and I loved her version of Wild Horses. Adam is also a very talented singer, and he has some amazing songs on his album. So if the music is good and people like it, they will still buy it even through all of the press either positive or negative. Look at Madonna when she was going through her Erotica stage. They wouldn’t even play some of her videos because they were so pornographic. I don’t think that impacted her album sales or if she got on a show or not.

Adam Lambert is discounted to $3.99, one day into his launch? Wow, that seems rather unusual. I don’t follow that sort of thing, but the Amazon Sale Topic caught my eye and brought me here. Can someone explain the theory behind this? Are sales so poor, that this sale is to move some units? Before you get all over me, I am not being sarcastic, or inflammatory, I honestly don’t remember this happening so soon with past idols. Maybe someone can fill me in. Thanks.

Adam Lambert is discounted to $3.99, one day into his launch? Wow, that seems rather unusual.

Rihanna’s disc is discounted to $3.99 also. If it hadn’t been, I probably wouldn’t have bought it…despite all the hype we all know surrounds her! I don’t know “the theory behind this”, but it just might entice fence sitters, like myself, to buy an album they otherwise would not have bought had they actually had to to go to a storefront and pay $9.99-$14.99 for the disc. At $3.99, if I didn’t like Rihanna’s disc, I could chalk it up to something akin to a less than desireable “meal” at McDonalds. Something cheap and disposable that’s meant to satisfy for the short term. If it turns out to be more than that, then YEEAA!!! If not, then Oh Well… Not a big deal. Despite the recession, it’s not THAT hard to come up with $4 of disposable income.

BTW, I picked up Adams’s “FYE” Monday. I made sure I went to Best Buy to actually purchase the disc. I’m wary of Amazon and their discounted discs when it comes to Soundscan reporting. I thought only Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Starbucks and perhaps 1-3 others (iTunes?)make up Soundscan reporting. I don’t remember Amazon (or their digital sales) being a part of that.
