    Adam news on Extra next..NBC

  • DLee:

    He passed John Mayer.

Yup, but then again, John Mayer went number 1 last week.

Correct’ ¦John Mayer sold 300k albums in the first week of his new album release.

I wasn’t in any way trying to imply that Adam was selling more than John Mayer. John Mayer is incredibly popular and successful and played all the time at our house. I just thought it was pretty good that Adam passed him at this point.

  • DLee:

About the video – can I watch it now with my kids in the same room? Or should I wait? Kids aged 11 and 9.

  • Truthiness:

Rickey claimed many of the antics were not part of the rehearsal meaning

    Well if Rickey says so…

sorry, you just lost me from there.

Agree. However, I think Mayer may be suffering a bit from lack of airplay of the single off his new album. I love John Mayer, seen him in concert twice, have all of his albums and bought the new CD, but I couldn’t tell you what the “single” from it is supposed to be. I am amazed that it has sold as well as it has. I guess he’s just really popular.

    double

GMA are being silly, Yes Adam went way overboard, BUT he’s proven on American Idol… for what TWELVE weeks… he can handle live tv, he’s a smart guy that did a stupid thing… he was very cool the other time on GMA, too…

Mayer is into his second week now. Albums with huge first weeks always fall 60% (or even more) their second week. Black Friday will help tremendously but he’s probably moving 120K this week. That’s pretty terrific single or no single.

By the way I could resist and went into my local Best Buy on the way home tonight. Neighborhood (trendy Manhattan). Best Buy must not care about albums because this week’s releases were poorly displayed. Adam looked like he’d sold most of what was on display (not that much was). The Fame Monster and Susan Boyle were both completely sold out. So judging my that, I predict they’ll go 1,2 this week with Adam and Rihanna fighting for 3rd. Oh and if you’re in the market for Kris Allen, Nora Jones and Taylor Swift albums, I know a BB where you’ll find a ton of them.

I think it might be better that he’s not drawing attention to the fact his vocal sucked.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a singer say that they apologize for their vocals not being up to snuff (I’m sure someone has — but I don’t think I’ve heard it, myself.) And I don’t really think there’s much place for that. We all have off nights for performing. And I don’t know that it does much for your future credibility to go around telling people about it later.

  • Starr:

He was contradicting himself. First he says that when he flipped off the audience he knew he was doing something wrong, but then he goes on to say that the whole performance was proof that he was “in control”? No, you weren’t in control, Adam. That’s the problem. Not only was your singing shockingly not up to par, but you made all these improvisations that you felt were supposed to prove to Aaron Hicklin and your detractors that you’re “gay enough”. He let people’s opinions of him deter him from putting on his best performance. I admired him during Idol when he said that his mindset during shows was to keep things positive and not let the negative get you down. Well, I guess that mindset was chuckled out the window.

  • 123abc456:

Well Adam does not seem to get what the problem was with his performance. He is unapologetic about a performance that can only be called crude and tasteless. There was nothing sexy about it. It was a pointless exercise that was for shock value and nothing else. He says people were scared. Scared of what? Does he think that he is the first person to discover sex or sexuality? He showed no class in the show, and he has shown zero class in the subsequent articles. He is clueless and does not seem to have anyone around him that will tell him that. IMO he should have apologized for offending people and not lectured the AMA’s or the American viewing public on a double standard. And to top it all off the performance without the crass sexuality was terrible.

sr4mjc: I put this in the other thread, but I think it died. I don’t watch this show, but was there hoopla over the move at 2:21?

YankeeFan08: That’s worse than anything Adam did! Wow, apparently no one was minding the store at ABC when this took place. Someone should bring it to their attention.

    Hilarious!

I was over the moon about that performance. Every single part of it. I’m from the Freddie Mercury school “A concert is not a live rendition of our album. It’s a theatrical event.” The guy’s adrenalin and “FU for this week bitches” took him to another level imo,he finally cracked the discipline of 17 years of theater training. I’ve been waiting to see that. Not easy. Today on radio he said he was proud of that and the ninja roll “I didn’t even know I could do that”. I don’t think he knew he had that sweaty wired defiant finale in him. I wouldn’t wish for a moment to be different. He’s building character and confidence and maturing. And becoming the “rock star” he dreamed about.

He’s done more for LGBT in two twats and 5 minutes in front of 14.5 million people than Hicklin has in in the entire recent history of hypocritical wet rag Out magazine. Especially the disingenuous covers month after month. And managed to bitch slap Hicklin while he was at it. With a smile. YOU GO BOY!

Yes they scrubbed the video he said as much to Cantiello. But love how Tommy is the breakout star of the thing. lol.

  • Ptnyc34:

Super cute interview!! I must say that particular studio audience was very excited to see Adam. So it really doesn’t look like Adam’s any less popular after his AMA performance. I never thought he would be though. One performance isn’t going to turn off the people from buying the album that were already going to buy the album. The people who were whining about the performance are the same people that have always been complaining about Adam. He could have performed flawlessly and they would have just found something else to gripe about. Oh well, they have too many issues and I doubt they intended to buy his album anyway. It’s great to see that Adam is still upbeat and not letting this effect him in a negative way.

  • zzatrms:

Michael Sarver interview where he talks about Adam’s performance:

Adam certainly has a good friend in Michael.

  • He looks so good.

I’m from the Freddie Mercury school ‘A concert is not a live rendition of our album. It’s a theatrical event.’

I’m right with you, Media Bias. Those are the kinds of concerts I want to SEE! The best always put on a show. Prince? The first time I saw him he was wearing a black raincoat over a purple velvet jockstrap – and that was all. ‘Little Red Corvette’ brought the house down. He used to hump the floor to completion during ‘Darling Nicky’. It was just Prince.

I saw Madonna in Japan. She turned a Japanese audience into a sweating, screaming mosh pit – not the usual thing over there, believe me. I expect (and am looking forward to) Adam doing it up with just as much moxie. Freddie would be proud. BTW ‘“ I had the pleasure of meeting Freddie Mercury once. He was sweet, caring and helpful (I was stranded at Narita Airport). The world lost more than a monumental talent when he died. It lost a pure soul.
