Adam Lambert Pre-Idol Album Expected this Summer

From the Associated Press:

Songs from the American Idol runner-up will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records, beginning with the single Want. A spokeswoman for the label said the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008 before Lambert’s rise on the popular Fox singing competition. The album will be titled On with the Show.

Why wouldn’t a producer with some pre-Idol recordings from Adam Lambert in the can attempt to cash in on them?

Check out the Hi-Fi Recordings site HERE. The label is also home to the awesome Melinda Doolittle. Hi-Fi released Melinda’s album, Coming Back to You last spring.

Check out “Want” right here:

I’m guessing the rest of the material will be as mediocre as this offering. Sure, Adam’s powerhouse vocals are awesome, but the song? Not so much.

I don’t think it’s all that bad. Some people liked it. Ok, I agree the melody and the lyrics sounds amatuerish. But he displayed great vocals. The fact that it is already being picked up on radio (as others claimed) is a good sign. This will disprove what other non-fans are saying that his voice is not radio friendly.

Also, this will ,in a way, keep Adam in the music scene while waiting for his album which will be a surprise for everyone. It is just equivalent to Kris’ No Boundaries (which also is a song that he doesn’t intend to sound like in his album). I’d like to think positive about this so that positive energy will set in.

Okay, once again, I’m unplugged for like two hours and all hell breaks loose. How did I ever survive without being connected to this blog before? I’ve sped read all the comments and listened to the track and I have to say, “Guys, please don’t panic!” This is nothing. It’s ridiculous and my gut feeling tells me it will only end up working in his favor à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ again. it will be yet another PR coup for him (man, Glinda the good PR witch is working overtime … see, it pays to play Fiyero).

Yes, the song is fluff, but it’s not horrible and he sounds great. It will get either get him airplay or proliferate more press. I don’t think ANYONE is going to say, “Well, I heard that one song that one time and it wasn’t great.” Right. Because bottom line, he sounded amazing (as always) and he was likely a voice for hire. We all know he did studio work, which in the music industry, is considered elite.

If 19 and RCA decide to pursue the case (which they may do just for PR value), it will continue to keep Adam’s name in the press and keep everyone hungering for his first “official” album. And he’ll kill it.

Thanks Susan, you’ve made me feel better.

AussieFan, I would echo the sentiment of this comment on that website:

I don’t think that is Adam. The voice sounds different. I have heard a lot of his preidol stuff.

The timbre of the voice is just not like Adam’s at all. Just because it appears in Wikipedia doesn’t mean it’s true. . .

  • Susan M.:

@elw, you’re welcome. I truly believe that. He will be fine and I do not think this will affect his career in any way, other than further it. That being said, I hate that these leeches are coming out of the woodwork to cash in on his name. Then again, they rarely do that for losers.

I’m not 100% sure its him either but there are planty of comments saying they think it is!! Who Knows? Just thought it was interesting in light of everything else going on and how it was coming out in the news when I googled Adam for things appearing in the last hour.

I also think Adam will be fine. He’ll end up winning even his biggest doubters over ;o)

    Exactly!!

  • unique28v:

When? Did it happen before her first album release? please unique28v say yes, it will make me feel better.

Yes. It was a HUGE thing. Her record company took them to court. She recorded songs when she was like 15 years old, so of course the quality wasn’t up to par. The name of the album is “Just Be Free”. Look it up. It doesn’t seem to like her any does it?

  • unique28v:

This sucks. This doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t add much to his brand. Hopefully, he gets better material in his Idol album.

Does no boundaries help with Kris’s brand??? of course not, but its not going to hinder his future record sales. lol

    Great points Susan!!

To wiccagirl2009 – Archie released his single and album before David Cooke did, so, yep they can get something out there as soon as it is ready.

From my understanding there is a window that the winner has over the other contestants. For example, say the window is two months after the tour. So if the tour ended Aug 31st, two months would be Oct 31st. That means on Nov 1st, Adam would be able to release an album whether Kris did or not.

  • arca:

Just don’t buy the freakin’ song – it’s already available for download all over anyway (ex. just one of the links floating out there).

For a single it can be earlier. Archie’s single “Crush” was released to radio on 8/1/08, released for sale in 8/12/08.

David Cook’s single “Light On” was released on 8/30/08.

There’s no such window. Last year, Kristy Lee Cook was the first out of the gate with a single and an album. Of course, it was a rush job and the album didn’t do very well. She parted ways with the label less than 6 months after signing with them.

Archie’s album came out a week before Cook’s.

Usually the winner is the first out with an album due to being the first one signed by a label. Last year the Davids were more or less signed by labels around the same time. Ditto for Kris, Adam and Allison this year.

Adam’s vocals are still amazing, but the song… = =lll
I mean, unfortunately, I will probably buy this mediocre CD. Although I really don’t expect other songs would be better than this mediocre pop boring song, I still want Adan’s amazing vocals. Yes, this album will definitely create confusions for a lot of people, especially for those that are not Adam fans; it will only hurt but will not help Adam in any way, I believe it will not ruin the sales for Adam’s first debut album in a big way though.

From a business perspective, we cannot really blame on this record company, as they said, they have an opportunity presented to them and they have the rights, RCA cannot do anything about it, so why not ride with Adam’s fame and make some $?!

Anyway, I am not upset by this news, it’s common and understandable, and there is really no one to blame and nothing to do about it.

Btw, I have to say that No Boundaries is actually way better than this one.

  • CRB:

What I cannot get over is that apparently both Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton at first believed that this was a track from Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first post-Idol album. AS IF! That recording has the raw, unfinished quality of a cheap demo

Ryan has heard enough Idol debuts to know exactly how crappy they are. Was that your point? They are essentially demos with an Idol vocal laid in place over the demo music. I think that has been established over the years. The faster the turn around the less real creativity is involved and these things are coming out sooner and sooner.

  • Just listened to “Want” on your site and I can tell it’s just a demo (idea of the song). But if it was taken past that stage to be totally rocked out it could be a great rock anthem ballad song..cause I love the lyrics and what they say!!! HOPEFULLY, Adam gets a chance to re-do the version of the song to truly represent him.
