Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s connections to the show are the worst Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve ever seen in any à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“realityà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ show. He does appear to have friendships to people connected to the show and 19Entertainment, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a photo of him with Brian Friedman for one, who is connected to his friends from the Zodiac Show, Alisan Porter and Lee Cherry. Brian Friedman did choreography for the Zodiac Show that Adam was in.

http://thumbsnap.com/v/g34R7ohH.jpg

He also does choreography for various shows like DWTS and SYTYCD, and was a judge on SYTYCD in Season two (also made by 19Entertainment, and where Nigel Lythgoeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gone). He was the Creative Director on X Factor last year, working directly with Cowell. Creative Director is a big deal and he was given the job when the plans for him to be a judge fell through.
Cowell isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t just a judge either, he is a producer of both shows.

Now Adam knows Randy tooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦LOL
I half-expected something to pop up with Paula, but I wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t expecting that.

------------------------------
So what? How does recording a demo that is used on Randy's show by a friend of Adam's imply that Adam knew Randy or got on AI because of it? Where's your proof? It's all speculation and conjecture on your part.

<blockquote>OK, since no one else here has said this, I guess Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be the one to do so. If Joanna Pacitti was disqualified for her prior experience and ties to the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ producers / judges, then Adam Lambert should be disqualified as well.</blockquote>

Joanna had a personal relationship with someone who is now a Fox exec. She considers her to be her "best friend." Adam did not have a personal relationship with Randy before the show. He just recorded some vocals and the mix was used on Randy's show. It's very different.

Also, Joanna was <strong>not</strong> dq'd because of her previous experience. It was only because she had a personal relationship with a Fox employee.

rk349097, the producers don't pretend anything. The rules state that contestants can't be under a current contract. That's all.

Just because America likes the perception that disadvantaged children are plucked from obscurity, discovered after having only sung in the shower at home, doesn't mean that the show's rules require that. They don't. Until they do, it's not fair to impose such a requirement ourselves and then claim the producers are being less than forthcoming about the show's premise.

Again, as stated upthread, recording a demo that is then sold does not by itself even suggest a contact with RJ, much less a prior relationship. Joanna had a known and extensive prior relationship. So, at least on the info we have, her situation differs quite a bit.

OK, since no one else here has said this, I guess I'll be the one to do so. If Joanna Pacitti was disqualified for her prior experience and ties to the "Idol" producers / judges, then Adam Lambert should be disqualified as well. I admit that the dude can be outrageously entertaining (and I think that this is clouding a lot of our judgment here), but the fact remains that he has the same ties to Randy Jackson for which Carly Smithson was eviscerated on many boards (not just VFTW) last year. Not to mention the fact that he has years of professional voice training from his musical theatre experience that few (if any) other contestants have. There's a reason that Adam seems head and shoulders above the others at times, and that's because he's already a professional singer! To be fair, Adam isn't the only one left on this show who can be accused of being a plant (he's only the most blatant example), as Allison had appeared on (and won) a Spanish-language talent competition on Telemundo as recently as two years ago. My point is that the "Idol" producers should stop pretending that the competitors on this show are anything close to being amateurs, or even "undiscovered talent." It's flat-out insulting to the audience's intelligence.

This...

<blockquote>I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t speak for all of the baby boomers that watch American Idol, but I think a lot of them have and are really enjoying Adam Lambert. No matter how conservative some of us have become, a large majority of us still remember the great times that were the late 60à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and the early 70à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s. We loved out OTT performers, our à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“howlingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ rock stars. We loved the fact that music hit us between the eyes, back in them thar days, because it helped us escape and or make sense of the war and all the social unrest it caused. I bet that, secretly, there are a lot of people who absolutely love Adam for bringing back to them that great love we once had for music. And, even though you youngins may not think soà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦some of us old foggies know how to dial a phone and text message.</blockquote>

*sign* why why wasn't I born in 60's or early '70's? :((( (specifically think about Jim Morrison here)

My best friend just said to me last week that if Adam was to compete in Europe or other parts of the world, he would have won the contest already. There would be no question about his sexuality at all. Kinda echo what a lot of you are saying here. I'm glad that many people are accepting Adam for who he is but I understand that many also don't (we Asians call them middle America, sorry!) but I think that's the thing about being an artist. You provoke feelings in people, for the best or the worst. People either love or hate you, just the way great artists are. If people don't care enough about you they just don't talk at all. I think Adam will have a great future ahead of him outside of Idol bubble where some contestants may not survive it at all. (and who was that grayed haired guy from last Wed again? *cough*)

That's my 2 cents anyway and I guess I'm the minority here who like 'screeching' and OTT Adam. That 'Feeling Good' is probably one of my fav performance from Adam, what a showmanship! Although I talked to a friend who's American and she thought it is disturbing, oh well....

<blockquote>I was just wondering in my post if Bowie had a point when he mused that America wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t able to accept gay singers for just their talent, and it got in the way of his US career. And I wondered if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be the same situation for Adam.</blockquote>

One could argue that most people in entertainment are gay or bisexual. This isn't a new development........ If anything, I think people are more accepting now. Although I know there are still closed/narrow-minded folks out there.

<blockquote>Sounds familiar, in a good way!! Showmanship is BACK. Love him or hate him, my guess is that no one watching AI has been bored when Adam performs.</blockquote>

Its sad to me that walking down the stairs is considered theatarical and too showy. Do people not go to entertainment venues to see real events/concerts/etc? Or is today's music just full of jumping up and down and waving arms in the air?? LOL

<blockquote>From listening to Adam, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d say he is able to sing in at least 5 octaves, possibly more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' as unlikely as it seems that anyone could. Even on the show, I think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hit an A5 in head voice and an F5 in falsetto.</blockquote>

What is so interesting with Adam is he has such a wide voice range with his full voice. He doesn't always have to use his falsetto/head voice. He is truely gifted, and had one hell of a voice coach as a child!!

I just looked at a clip of Freddie Mercury singing "Who Wants to Live Forever", and in the first minute or so of his appearance he stands bathed in a beautiful blue spotlight, then he descends a large staircase.

Sounds familiar, in a good way!! Showmanship is BACK. Love him or hate him, my guess is that no one watching AI has been bored when Adam performs.

hee, you're right WinkyDink. Dunno how I could have forgotten even for a moment that Clay was 2nd. Clay lost to Rueben. Anyway, I missed the 'outing', so dunno the circumstances that prompted his outing. But his fanbase would have been established already, right? I can't imagine him making such a move without being sure of his fanbase first, or firmly establishing his career .

Anyway, it's his choice. I was just wondering in my post if Bowie had a point when he mused that America wasn't able to accept gay singers for just their talent, and it got in the way of his US career. And I wondered if it'll be the same situation for Adam.

*Waves to fellow 60's hippie flynnsgirl!*

Is Adam "accepted"? Did adults "accept" Led Zeppelin, the Airplane, Mothers of invention, the Doors, Country Joe (especially his cheer?!)? HELL, NO! And we preferred it that way, thankyouverymuch!

So if there's a contingent that sees Adam as the anti-Danny who must begone, or a segment that hears a high tenor and calls it "screaming", or a demographic that watches Jamie Foxx and can't wait to purchase his work, so be it. That still leaves at least a hundred million Americans!

oddobserver, Clay neither won, nor outed himself until five years later, when he became a parent.

I'm listening to Freddie Mercury & Bowie's "Under Pressure" for the upteenth time. I'm liking the idea of a Kradam "Under Pressure" more and more, just please don't make Adam just wail "why why....." like what the Canadian Idol duo did. Adam and Kris can do better than that!

Dig this from Bowie's Wikipedia page:

"America is a very puritanical place, and I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do."

As a heterosexual Englishwoman living in the US for a long time, I say yay to that statement. I always thought America was "footloose and fancy free" ... until I lived here for a while.

"Also, Adam is compared to Freddie because he has a similar vocal range."

Adam's range is much much wider than Freddie's. Believe it or not, Freddie only sang in about 3 octaves (maybe 3 and a half, to be fair). I think he hit a C5 during Live Aid, and that was extremely rare and one of the few times he did -- and only in falsetto, not in head voice. In fact, he said that when he was sick (and dying), he discovered his range expanded further than it ever had before. (That makes me sad to think what could have been.) I just found this website that details his highest and lowest notes: http://www.f-mercury.com.ar/eng_notes.htm

From listening to Adam, I'd say he is able to sing in at least 5 octaves, possibly more -- as unlikely as it seems that anyone could. Even on the show, I think he's hit an A5 in head voice and an F5 in falsetto.

"Did Freddie Mercury get some of the same criticism that Adam gets now? comments such as polarizing, sounds like a girl, screeching, a man shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have a range like that, gender bender, etc.?"

I can't speak for how they went down in the US, but at the time they broke in London, where I lived at the time, people were really accepting of their music or they weren't. It was somewhat polarizing -- but not due to gender issues. In fact, I don't remember anyone even suspecting that "Queen" meant anything other than perhaps a tribute to Her Majesty. Then again, we had a lot of homosexuality being discussed openly on our TVs. For example, we had this late night talk show host, Russell Harty, who did a show and he was totally effeminate, but very widely accepted. He had David Bowie on there one night and David admitted he was bisexual and had an open marriage. He indicated that if he was in London and Angie (first wife) was in New York but flying into London or vice versa, it didn't matter who they were in bed with, they'd leave their lover and go pick up the spouse. It was a big "water cooler" type topic for a while after that show.

When Bohemian Rhapsody came out, people either LOVED Queen or they HATED them -- and likewise for Freddie's voice. A few years and a few songs later, everyone loved them.

I don't necessarily hear Freddie in Adam's voice all the time and not on these clips, but he definitely has some of Freddie's charm in both his voice and his style. Freddie sucked live -- until Live Aid though -- Adam is amazing live.

Adam reminds me of a guy who WAS really criticized for screeching, and, in my opinion (and finally it seems, the opinion of the masses), had one of the greatest voices ever: Steve Perry of Journey. In one interview, Adam said he considered it a great compliment to be compared to Perry. In the early years of Perry with Journey, he was extremely polarizing due to his unbelievable range and many people thought he screeched too much, and the rumours that he was gay abounded (until he did Oh Sherrie with a video of his real life girlfriend). He was awesome in the studio, but always light years better live -- and you can't say that about too many performers from any decade. To me, Adam brings many of those Perry qualities, and much as I love his studio recordings, live, he just brings it so much more. .

Below is the full text from Wiki about what Bowie said was the response to his sexuality -
"Bowie was posed with this question: "You once said that saying you were bisexual was 'the biggest mistake I ever made'. Do you still believe that?"

His response:
Interesting. [Long pause] I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think it was a mistake in Europe, but it was a lot tougher in America. I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners or be a representative of any group of people. I knew what I wanted to be, which was a songwriter and a performer, and I felt that [bisexuality] became my headline over here for so long. America is a very puritanical place, and I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do."

I'm not an American, so pardon me if I inadvertently offend anyone. I agree with Bowie on that view. Maybe Adam is just in the wrong culture/show/era? Also, we hear about Adam sounding like Freddie Mercury and looking like Elvis, and all those other comparisons, but all these are of bygone eras, unless Adam is able to single-handedly start a revival a la Woodstock.
I'm worried about his chances for AI, with Danny's steadfast fanbase, supposedly comprising of people who like his church connections. (Though I wonder why Kris is not able to capitalise on his church connections, being a generally more likeable guy. Is the sob story factor that much influence?)

Is America ready for Adam Lambert?

Even Clay Aiken didn't 'out' himself until he won. George Micheal, Freddie, Elton John, even *ugh* Boy George weren't outed so openly, at least not in the conservative society I lived in. There were murmurs, but nothing solid, until their careers were more established, and they started getting careless or confident of their fanbase to 'out' themselves.

<strong>ETA: </strong> It's Adam's own business about his sexuality, and it's not usually discussed. So I really really hope that however Adam chooses to live is not a factor deciding whether Adam wins on AI. I'd love to have an Adam win, just based on his talent.

<blockquote>He is definitely a Freddie Mercury wanna be. Is it a conflict of interest that he has a previous association with Randy Jackson?</blockquote>

I think this was addressed in another thread. Basically Adam was hired by a mixing company to lay down a vocal of Queen. That company in turn mixed it and sold it to a reality show which happens to be produced by Randy Jackson. Not much of a conflict in interest.

Also, Adam is compared to Freddie because he has a similar vocal range. I wouldn't call him a wanna be. You either have the vocal range or you don't. It's like calling Kobe of the Lakers a wanna be of Magic Johnson. They are both great basketball players in their own right.

I'm not quite a baby boomer but I loved Queen, Zeppelin, Bowie and Journey, as well as all of the other great bands of that time. Funny thing is, I didn't even know who Freddie Mercury was until I was an adult. Sad, I know. I just knew the music of Queen and loved it. FWIW, I was raised in the Bible Belt and I never heard any talk about a band's sexuality. It just didn't matter.

As a matter of fact, if you look at the frontmen of the times, including Steve Perry and Robert Plant, they all looked and dressed alike. You couldn't tell who was gay or not - and nobody cared! And I still don't care. I love the music.

I was bored the other day so I wandered over to the AI forums, which I never do, and the longest thread was for teens who love Adam. It restored my faith in humanity. Seriously. Their ages are from 13 to 19 and they don't care about his sexuality either. I now have hope that he will be able to bring back to music what's been missing for a long time.

ETA: I didn't care much for either of those remixes but the original track sounds pretty awesome. I was hoping for a little wailing though. LOL

I’m not quite a baby boomer but I loved Queen, Zeppelin, Bowie and Journey, as well as all of the other great bands of that time. Funny thing is, I didn’t even know who Freddie Mercury was until I was an adult. Sad, I know. I just knew the music of Queen and loved it. FWIW, I was raised in the Bible Belt and I never heard any talk about a band’s sexuality. It just didn’t matter.

As a matter of fact, if you look at the frontmen of the times, including Steve Perry and Robert Plant, they all looked and dressed alike. You couldn’t tell who was gay or not – and nobody cared! And I still don’t care. I love the music.

If Adam can form a band of EXCELLENT, OTT instrumentalists (am talking drums, guitarists mainly that can become "personalities" in their own right) post idol, he's the only one in 8 seasons of idol that I can see filling huge arenas with lavish, spectacular shows and becoming an international star like those we've been comparing him to.

<blockquote>This is a hilarious utube of a guy talking about Adam in the bottom 2 and what the judges need to do to get vote for Adam. Really, really funny (if you like Adam)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-li7bAOHltE</blockquote>

That was an awesome video!

As for Adam Lambert being like Freddie Mercury, I really enjoyed reading the posts above from people who focused on Mercury's talent rather than his sexual preference. Also, you all are right; music today is less about melody or strength of someone's voice; it's more about the beat. I don't know, but I'd rather listen to Queen more than any of the crap played on mainstream radio today. I beat myself up whenever I'm flipping through the stations and come in halfway through a Queen song; why the hell didn't I just stick to the classic rock station?! Screw the traffic report!

Listening to the mix above, I've seen (or heard) clearly now that Adam has the best chance of making it BIG; hopefully his first album allows him to do so. His voice not only sounds like Freddie Mercury, but it also blends in with current sounds. It did grate my ears to hear the song so chopped up, but I can appreciate taking classics and making them new.

I wasn't born until the early '70s, but as a kid my parents played The Doors, Bowie, Queen, etc. non-stop, and at high volume. I'm surprised my ear drums weren't busted out by age ten. And my father's prize possession, a gigantic painting of Jim Morrison, still hangs over the couch in his house. So, for me, Adam is like taking a walk back through the music I grew up with, but with an added current flair. Damn...Adam's making me wax poetic about my childhood.

I agree that Adam will do fantastic around the world. He's already doing very well in the US because of the show (iTunes) on the strength of his vocals and personality. Not everyone has to like him, but it all depends on the songs he releases post-AI.

I lived in Europe for a while and first saw Queen there when I was about 12. It was a huge stadium show. Amazing. Yeah, maybe that is why I have a soft spot for Adam.

Off-topic, is "theatrical" the new "black"? I see Green Day and U2 are both composing Broadway musicals.

I can't speak for all of the baby boomers that watch American Idol, but I think a lot of them have and are really enjoying Adam Lambert. No matter how conservative some of us have become, a large majority of us still remember the great times that were the late 60's and the early 70's. We loved out OTT performers, our "howling" rock stars. We loved the fact that music hit us between the eyes, back in them thar days, because it helped us escape and or make sense of the war and all the social unrest it caused. I bet that, secretly, there are a lot of people who absolutely love Adam for bringing back to them that great love we once had for music. And, even though you youngins may not think so...some of us old foggies know how to dial a phone and text message.

<blockquote>If you are really have a interest in how hard it was on david bowie
look at this go down to sexual orientation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie
IT was very hard on these guys in the 70s.It took the us a long time to get queenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music but when we did Wahooooooooo.</blockquote>

But look at the bit in the small print .. he's saying more or less that it wasn't a problem in Europe but was a lot harder for the US to accept.

I think that Adam would be hugely popular here in the UK .. we already have fan board etc for his UK fans and on one of the most popular general forums for reality TV shows Adam's appreciation thread already has 5 times as many posts as David Cooks and Cookie's has been going over a year longer.

I guess it all depends on how he's marketed and where he's marketed as to how successful he'll be internationally but the interest is definitely there here in the UK.

Lol, I didn't mean to be negative! I also think he has made it very far and I completely agree that he will be HUGE as an international artist. I am European, and I can totally see him there.

I just meant it's kind of sad to me how the majority of Idol watchers - which, I agree, are not necessarily representative of the American public - could prefer others over him for reasons that are clearly not connected to pure vocal ability. Because on that one, he wins hands down.

Anyways, people definitely have the right to their own opinions, of course. These are just the musing of an Adam fan.

<blockquote>I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see how heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not being accepted by the mainstream. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s made it very far on Idol. People all over the internet who donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch or vote on Idol like him. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s killing in itunes, google searches, twitter, etc. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not appealing to EVERYONE, but I think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s appealing to enough. That gives me hope. We canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t diminish what heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done just cause everyone doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like him. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never heard a scream out of him, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so much talent. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure Slash, Savage Garden, Green Day vocalist, Christina Applegate etc. agree.</blockquote>

Exactly! Not everyone is going to love you. Its not realistic. People can dislike you for wearing a green sweater. LOL Besides, if everyone loves you, you are definitely doing something wrong.. or worst yet, not doing anything at all....

There's a difference between being a singer and an artist. Adam is an artist.
