For the 2 or 3 of you who might actually still be checking this thread, and not obsessing over the topic of the day (Are you a member of Team Glambert or Team Slambert?):

Allison's twitter account mysteriously has morphed under the name of Quinvherli Mananà , Location: En la Punta del Serro. 4 followers, 1 post. It no longer appears on her official web page.

Interesting, since her last post prior to this purge was something like "I'm so proud of your crazy ass, mi hermano," to guess who.

I will now wait anxiously for hundreds of comments to this posting.

134 :-)

PRMari, just wondering:

Did Jorge Nunez made something out of his stint in Idol?; and

Was there any buzz in PR regarding the fact that Gokey's wife was Puertorrican? He mentioned he would go there to visit family after Idol. I like Gokey, not enough to forgive Rock Week, but wish him well.

I guess Sunday afternoons are slow business but glad you got to hear it.

I've read a lot of comments about how gorgeous Trouble is is and it seems that they didn't play Holiday in any store, I don't know why, maybe because it was too hard or something.

Anybody home?

OK, for all you hardcore Allison fans lurking in this "underground" thread, I bit the bullet and went to the Torrid "listening party" this afternoon. Did anyone else, go - anyone at all?

First of all, my mistake, I was actually expecting some kind of event. Like maybe a little table with some volunteer handing out some promotional material. I also expected more than the 3 people (2 sales clerks, and myself) to be in the store at 3 PM, Pacific Time. Keep in mind that I was a (almost) 65 year old man hanging out in a young woman's clothing store, supposedly shopping for a present for my wife. Actually, that part was partially true, as my wife is a plus size, and I would have gladly bought her something if I had seen anything remotely right for her. But, in 5 minutes I knew that there was nothing in the store appropriate for her taste.

Now I had to stall for about 40 minutes, while one of the sales clerks felt determined to help me find something to buy.

To make matters more uncomfortable, the speakers were very close to the corset section, not exactly where I wanted to hang out. But, I was determined to at least get some reasonably good sound out of this venture, so I steadfastly lurked by the pink corsets.

On to the album - cutting to the chase.

All of the non-FIBOU cuts give us plenty of the Allison we know and love. I liked "Robot" much more than I expected. It's really catchy and might make it as a pop hit. I think the production "Just Like You" also is very strong and is a great showcase for Alli. DWTP is solid, but I absolutely love the acoustic (maybe a little bit more). I was a little disappointed in "DIFD" - but I think I need to hear it again. Liked "Still Breathing" a lot more than the snippet. Real nice song. "You Don't Know Me" is good, but I have a feeling that a live version could be even better. Have to reserve judgment on most of the others until I hear them again, especially Scars and Beat Me Up. However -

"TROUBLE IS". Absolutely blew me away. I love, love LOVE the way Allison delivers this song. Wow! I love everything about this solid song. If this isn't a hit it's a crime!

One other thing - I swear I didn't hear Holiday. I might have been distracted by the sales clerk at that time, but it's hard to believe I wouldn't have noticed that song. Wonder if the Dilana situation caused them to pull the song? Hope not, because I love Holiday.

Anyway, the second sales clerk, who actually knew who Allison was and was a fan, gave me a little pink bag with an Allison decal and a discount coupon to their store. And that was the end of my adventure.

Again, was I the only one? BTW this was at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach, CA.

PRMari
Live performance video for Just like you:
Acoustic guitar from her too, very nice

INCREDIBLE!!!
Sometimes I have questioned my enthusiasm for this girl. Now I think it wasn't enough!
Her guitar playing added a lot to it. I hope she does more of that.
The bridge section was a lot better here than the Pennsylvania performance. And I have the feeling it will get better the more she performs it.
I thought that the second single should be DWTP. Now I am not so sure. Need to hear the produced songs. NOW!

John, I posted the link on TWoP. But just in case, here it is again.

http://twitpic.com/qdsl1

It's hard to read but basically some big guy on Jive was saying that she'll be targeted to her teen peers but also hitting the Latin market with the release of El viernes te olvido yo to the radio as well.

I've never seen the "Avril/Hayley" article but that's surely a good place to start with her, much better than Miley/Selena/Demi.

Rub: Hey JohnM, hasn't she hit at least a G on the third octave?

Has she? My apologies -- I don't have a record of her hitting anything above the F (on Cry Baby and Barracuda), which makes exactly two octaves. But I didn't watch a whole lot of tour videos (didn't want to burn out). I'd love to know where she went up to the G...

Btw, that Billboard article makes me feel better about Jive's commitment.

Man, now I really feel out of it! What Billboard article? My wife was telling me about an article that said they were going for Hayley/Avril territory with her, but she can't remember where she read it.

But I think the mere fact of the New Moon promo indicates a pretty strong commitment, as I can't imagine that that came cheap.

How long can we keep this thread trickling along?? Maybe until Sunday when we might get a Torrid listening party thread to hide out in while 2,000 messages get posted about The Greatest Performance In The History Of This Or Any Award Show? ;-)

PRMari: So in which songs did she hit a higher note than this one?

Slow Ride. That was the only one on the show, although she went even a half step higher than that during the tour on Cry Baby and some Barracuda performances.

She matched JLY's D5 note on Give In To Me, Papa, I Can't Make You Love Me, Don't Wanna Miss A Thing, Hot Stuff, and Cry Baby.

Also, she has changed my mind about Don't waste the pretty. It was one of the few songs that I wasn't totally feeling from the 30 seconds snippets. Well, color me impressed and I take it back. I will wait for full album version but I already love this version.

Yeah, that's an interesting one. In terms of structure, it's very simple -- the chord progression is a standard 1-7-4-1 (which in this case is B-A-E-B) that is the backbone of a gazillion rock songs, and so it's not very creative in that way. But the clip hit me right away as having the potential to be one of my favorites on the album, because of the arrangement -- mainly the harmonies and the cool guitar/bass riff in the chorus (starting at the 7-second mark in the clip), as well as the verse's melody (especially the last note she sings in the clip). On the flip side, as an acoustic song, there's essentially no arrangement attraction to make the simple structure more interesting, but her vocal more than makes up for that, of course.

By the way, in this live performance they lowered DWTP a half step from the album version. That makes the highest note -- guess what -- that same D5 as in JLY and all those other songs. I guess that's really as high as she wants to go.

Geekfest complete!

Rub: I bet he'll try to interview Allison when she arrives in NY for the GMAs. I hope she has a tight schedule and postpones both New Yorkers.

Well, although I don't know what Slezak's problem is with the video -- seems like pure fun to me -- he's a fantastic interviewer, and Jim loves her too, so I think she'd do well to visit with both of them.

LoveDaRocker: For now, she and the band need to kill the GMA and Ellen gigs.

No worries about her killing it! As for the band, we'll see -- I have a feeling that her promo was "slow" in starting because they spent a lot of time rehearsing, and I think that's a very smart thing to do, because you really want them to be as tight and comfortable as possible when they hit national TV on the 1st.

Hey, I think that new performance of JLY is a lot better! Thanks PRMari!

Rub: becomes difficult to reproduce sounds in the 3rd octave or higher of her range

Well, she's never shown us more than 2 octaves, but yeah. :-) You're right, she does like to lean her head back -- and turn it sideways some -- on that high stuff.

I don't think any of the artists I enjoy can enunciate clearly. Its not a deal breaker for me, if anything I lean towards it.
You don't like it, go listen to Celine, Streisand and the rest of the boring enunciating crowd.

Can I get an "Amen"??!!!!

PRMari: I think Allison sounded AMAZING during the last 4 shows of the tour, specially in Cry baby.

I agree, the voice was fuller. But, can you really compare them to the first 5 shows, and possibly LA?
Check this one out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCuw_zKC5Qw

She stopped doing the extra 20 seconds after the 5th show.

You know, I think Allison sounded AMAZING during the last 4 shows of the tour, specially in Cry baby. Check out when you can the youtube version for that song in the Providence show but yeah, her voice has been through a lot in the past few months and there hasn't been time for her to completely rest her voice and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon unfortunately.

I agree about the enunciation thing as well. It's not a deal breaker for me.

Thank you PRMari.
In this version of JLY, she hits all the notes because she was able to belt-out using her abdominal muscles freely. I commented earlier(2 days ago) that in an intimate setting, for a vocalist like Allison, becomes difficult to reproduce sounds in the 3rd octave or higher of her range especially in a seated position trying not to drownout the guitar. I think you also seem to agree with me with your position comment. Normally she would lean her head back or whatever it is she does to help reproduce the notes she needs. Her sweet spot is standing with mic in hand performing and feeling the song.

Its safe to assume though, her voice is not completely healed, but at her current stage its night and day compared to the condition of her voice during the summer tour. Its important to note aswell, that her vocals was/is on overtime since last may, practically singing daily if we include all the responsibilities to the tour, multiple album sessions and rehearsals with the new band.
What I also love about Alli, is the fact that her voice cracks every now and then. Thats Alli and I dont want it to ever go away, and I dont ever want her to enunciate clearly either. One of my favorite songs of all time is Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. You can't understand anything Eddie says because he uses his voice to make art with feeling. I don't think any of the artists I enjoy can enunciate clearly. Its not a deal breaker for me, if anything I lean towards it.

All good points. For now, she and the band need to kill the GMA and Ellen gigs. That should help with getting more gigs and being noticed by bigger acts looking for an opener.

LoveDaRocker, yeah I hope she lays the smack on both sellout clowns. I don't know about "good promo" though. Other than Idol fans, who sees these things? The general audience? Maybe a little, but you're right any promo will do. My goal for her is to be a supporting act for a respectable artist that can draw her audience like Pink. The way to do it is to tour major cities, promote the single, put it in people's ears and develope a faithfull following. Also try to score a spot in one of those televised christmas concert specials, because people will see those rather than the New Year's gig which nobody cares coz they're out and about.

We can all agree, the acoustic version of DWTP, is at the very least a good song. Right? I love it, btw.
It boggles my mind how some bloggers, Im talkin' to you Cantiello, are irresponsibly quick to review a :30 second clip of beautiful song and call it: "Whoever gave Iraheta this bland track should be choked.." WTF!!
No one should even make an attempt to try to do this on any new song at all. Has anybody ever tried a 30 Sec. snip of their favorite song of all time? I have, and they sound like crap. The snippet is meant to help you find a song you're looking for but forgot the name, and you're going by trial and error to catch it, simple.

And then there is Slezak who rained on a 17 year old's parade in her first debut video single. I don't get these people...
I bet he'll try to interview Allison when she arrives in NY for the GMAs. I hope she has a tight schedule and postpones both New Yorkers.

You never cease to amaze me with your technical analysis of song's ranges, heh. So in which songs did she hit a higher note than this one? I still think the sitting position and setting wasn't the best for her belting out these notes. Of course that doesn't stop me from totally loving every second of it. I am in love with the angry lyrics from Just like you. You called it, when you said it wouldn't me "I wanna be just like you" but something totally different. I can definitely see Just like you being a single at some point down the line. Also, she has changed my mind about Don't waste the pretty. It was one of the few songs that I wasn't totally feeling from the 30 seconds snippets. Well, color me impressed and I take it back. I will wait for full album version but I already love this version.

PRMari: The key is not totally comfortable for her in those high notes at the bridge

Well, of course that's my cue to stop procrastinating and check out the song's range! Those highest notes are D5, which is a step below the highest she sang on AI. She hit that note very well in several performances on the show. I suspect you're right that the physical setup for this made it tougher. At the other end, the lowest note is G3, which is a step above her lowest on the show. As much as I'd like to see them set the key a bit lower here, I suspect G3 may be the lowest that she's really comfortable hitting with sufficient power, and given that it shows up a lot in this song, it might not be a good idea to go lower.

fadetowhite: I may actually buy her album.

Please do! She's going to need all the sales she can get.

Allison's great! She sings with so much genuine feeling for the music. She's the real thing.

She sold me on this song and I don't even think that much of the chorus.

I may actually buy her album.

I hope she gets a chance.
