She’s got some good music here, and one or two songs sound really good to me, but for me, right now that’s as far as it goes in my ability to connect with her. I really hope to see and hear more of her in the future, though.

I don’t expect everyone to be like me, though, and i’m not trying to sway anyone, either. To each his own.

It just amazes me that a 16/17 year old could handle that kind of pressure so well.

And people still say she’s immature. I think not. She may be hyper and not all that articulate, but I think she’s got an incredible work ethic and is really mature when it comes to her career and knowing very well who she is. It is amazing that with as much criticism as she received about her image and her personality, she never gave in ot it just to conform to what others thought she should look or act like. I think for such a young person that’s pretty amazing.

I’m glad that she is still a little awkward and why would she need speech lessons. This is “her”, she is a real teenager and it is so refreshing. I don’t want her to sound like a robot or to stray away from who she really is.

Actually, Allison won’t miss the big holiday sales weeks. As Kirsten pointed out recently, the two biggest sales weeks for music are the two weeks before Christmas — Thanksgiving week isn’t even #2.

Having said that, I don’t expect her to sell that well that quickly. I think Jive is planning to build her success slowly, and I think that’s the right approach. Will she go multi-platinum? Platinum? Gold? No one knows. Given the trend in recent years, the odds of anyone going multi-platinum are extremely small, and even the odds of just going platinum are very small as well. Gold records are starting to mean something again. So, based purely on statistics, I have no expectation that she’ll go platinum, or even gold.

But then, I’ve kept my hopes low all along, and they keep being happily exceeded. I didn’t expect her to get as far as she did on the show. I didn’t expect the record execs to be smart enough to give her a contract. I didn’t expect them to let her make a record that sounds as good as these clips do. So maybe she will go platinum!

But my own goal for her doesn’t have a metal attached to it — I just want her to sell enough to make a good living for herself and to keep recording and touring. If she can do that without going gold, that’s fine with me. Plenty of the artists I love don’t go gold but sell enough to keep their careers going. Anything more is icing on the cake.

Most appreciated are those who can recognize talent across the board and whose comments are not blindly genre limited. BUT, much of this is “for the love of the game”; thus, I cannot deny anyone their sport. I just don’t like it! Go, ALLI, GO!

Another is to start making predictions about how unpopular she will be / how she won’t sell records based on the fact that you don’t like her.
As for Simon, he said no to Daughtry at his audition, passed on Spice Girls, and recorded a song by Wrestlers. So, he is not exactly a music oracle.
And those mechanical / no emotion comments by Simon for her performances of Someone to Watch Over Me and Cry Baby are the most off-the-mark comments, I think, Simon has ever made on the show. Her rendition of STWOM should to into the Idol Hall of Fame as one of the most emotional performances ever in the show.

I would disagree with Jordin’s first single being “massive”. It was a hit, but not a huuuggggeeee one… to me that would require going double platinum at least. Not to say it was a flop at all, or that Battlefield was not a big accomplishment.

That said, ITA her album sales have been low, and so has Kelly’s this time around. So I agree Allison is not likely to go platinum. But I don’t think she has to in order to keep making records. If Jive ever gets behind her song, I think she’ll do well.

Yeah I kind of agree. I mean I love her and all and love her voice, but when she speaks, especially in this interview, there’s something that’s very valley girl/surfer dude about it that just seems like a gimmick to me. To me, that isn’t how most teenagers talk today…perhaps in the 80s, but not now. I don’t sense any sort of realness from her. Even though that’s exactly what she says she’s about. I sense a gimmick in her interviews.

I do agree that her emotion becomes real when she sings. So I’d say I more prefer her singing than speaking. I still can’t forget how amazing she was singing Someone To Watch Over Me. It may not have been her style, but it was exquisite.

I liked how she said she looked to experiences friends had been through and ‘walked in their shoes’ on some of these. She’s also a strong young woman to have been able to endure the criticisms, often unwarranted, and continue on.

I actually agree with Simon with his assessment of her being mechanical and not singing with her emotion.

If anything, I think Allison expresses herself best when she’s singing. To me, that’s when she really shows off who she is and to say she doesn’t connect with songs is just something I personally can’t understand. I’ve seen this girl cry while performing, if that’s not connecting to a song, I don’t know what is.
