I think her emotions, her behavior, her tweets, all of it is appropriate for a teenager. Is she mature teenager? Yes, in some ways i'm sure she is. Does that mean I now relate to her and her music, because she's handling the business well? Nope.

She's got some good music here, and one or two songs sound really good to me, but for me, right now that's as far as it goes in my ability to connect with her. I really hope to see and hear more of her in the future, though.

I don't expect everyone to be like me, though, and i'm not trying to sway anyone, either. To each his own.

It just amazes me that a 16/17 year old could handle that kind of pressure so well.
And people still say she's immature. I think not. She may be hyper and not all that articulate, but I think she's got an incredible work ethic and is really mature when it comes to her career and knowing very well who she is. It is amazing that with as much criticism as she received about her image and her personality, she never gave in ot it just to conform to what others thought she should look or act like. I think for such a young person that's pretty amazing.

ppwars, I'm not sure if you were referring to my statement about Carly or not, but I liked her a lot! I just meant the fact that Allison didn't let the judges get to her, but I really believe Carly did. I probably wasn't clear on that. It just amazes me that a 16/17 year old could handle that kind of pressure so well.

Allison's great! I love her realness! While they were discussing idol I just kept thinking how much she could have taught Carley Smithson last year.

Hopefully she will break the 100k mark for total sales.

I'm going to hang this on my wall so that I can look at it and howl with laughter when she goes multi-platinum.

why wait till it then? I'm gonna howl with laughter when she passes 150 000K in her first week :)

That girl needs speech lessons. Her manner of speech is off putting.

I'm glad that she is still a little awkward and why would she need speech lessons. This is "her", she is a real teenager and it is so refreshing. I don't want her to sound like a robot or to stray away from who she really is.

I finally can see the interview. I love her she's so youthful, charming and funny. I'm buying her cd too because I love her voice! She should drop "man" from her vocabulary. It's just as bad as saying "eh".

I hope she gets the support to sell some albums but given her finishing position, I suspect she'll get the messy end of the payola stick. Unless she is the next Chris Daughtry.

BM2587: Well then good luck with that AL. Especially after missing the big holiday sales weeks

Actually, Allison won't miss the big holiday sales weeks. As Kirsten pointed out recently, the two biggest sales weeks for music are the two weeks before Christmas -- Thanksgiving week isn't even #2.

Having said that, I don't expect her to sell that well that quickly. I think Jive is planning to build her success slowly, and I think that's the right approach. Will she go multi-platinum? Platinum? Gold? No one knows. Given the trend in recent years, the odds of anyone going multi-platinum are extremely small, and even the odds of just going platinum are very small as well. Gold records are starting to mean something again. So, based purely on statistics, I have no expectation that she'll go platinum, or even gold.

But then, I've kept my hopes low all along, and they keep being happily exceeded. I didn't expect her to get as far as she did on the show. I didn't expect the record execs to be smart enough to give her a contract. I didn't expect them to let her make a record that sounds as good as these clips do. So maybe she will go platinum! :-)

But my own goal for her doesn't have a metal attached to it -- I just want her to sell enough to make a good living for herself and to keep recording and touring. If she can do that without going gold, that's fine with me. Plenty of the artists I love don't go gold but sell enough to keep their careers going. Anything more is icing on the cake.

BTW, for those of you familiar with Shakira's "Vuelve", wouldnt that be an awesome song for Alli? Alli will kill it in Spanish, but I was thinking translated to English. The song is not Shakira's English vibe, so Shakira may allow Alli to make it an English rock song.

If Kelly Clarkson who's a million time more popular and known than her can't go multi platinum anymore you really think Allison will? Kelly had a massive first hit single with first week sales 100k times over what Allison sold her first week still only managed to go Gold with her cd.

BM2587 - Ah, you're a little off with your comment about Kelly's CD sales. Her first three albums are all multi-platinum, and her fourth is rapidly approaching that point also. SoundScan has all the details. . .

BM=BS! oops...! I guess if most posts weren't so petty and redundant we would all go nutz awaiting the next article, snippet, release - whatever meaningless detail - to fulfill our otherwise pretty empty(?)lives. I thank God Alli is my first and prayerfully last AI interest. I feel my interest in keeping up slacking as the release of her album approaches. Shortly, I hope to bid a less than fond farewell to many who post here. On the other hand, I marvel at the knowledge possessed by many who post - knowledge with understanding; knowledge with experience; knowledge with both; and just knowledge without understanding or experience (yuck). Then there ARE the TIN ears - OH, NO!

Most appreciated are those who can recognize talent across the board and whose comments are not blindly genre limited. BUT, much of this is "for the love of the game"; thus, I cannot deny anyone their sport. I just don't like it! Go, ALLI, GO!

BM2587

LOL.
One thing is to say: for me for you, I didn't feel it. Cool.
Another is to start making predictions about how unpopular she will be / how she won't sell records based on the fact that you don't like her.
As for Simon, he said no to Daughtry at his audition, passed on Spice Girls, and recorded a song by Wrestlers. So, he is not exactly a music oracle.
And those mechanical / no emotion comments by Simon for her performances of Someone to Watch Over Me and Cry Baby are the most off-the-mark comments, I think, Simon has ever made on the show. Her rendition of STWOM should to into the Idol Hall of Fame as one of the most emotional performances ever in the show.

Another is to start making predictions about how unpopular she will be / how she won’t sell records based on the fact that you don’t like her.

If Kelly Clarkson who's a million time more popular and known than her can't go multi platinum anymore you really think Allison will? Kelly had a massive first hit single with first week sales 100k times over what Allison sold her first week still only managed to go Gold with her cd. Some with Jordin. Massive first single but hasnt even reached 100k yet in total sales

I would disagree with Jordin's first single being "massive". It was a hit, but not a huuuggggeeee one... to me that would require going double platinum at least. Not to say it was a flop at all, or that Battlefield was not a big accomplishment.

That said, ITA her album sales have been low, and so has Kelly's this time around. So I agree Allison is not likely to go platinum. But I don't think she has to in order to keep making records. If Jive ever gets behind her song, I think she'll do well.

That girl needs speech lessons. Her manner of speech is off putting.

Yeah I kind of agree. I mean I love her and all and love her voice, but when she speaks, especially in this interview, there's something that's very valley girl/surfer dude about it that just seems like a gimmick to me. To me, that isn't how most teenagers talk today...perhaps in the 80s, but not now. I don't sense any sort of realness from her. Even though that's exactly what she says she's about. I sense a gimmick in her interviews.

I do agree that her emotion becomes real when she sings. So I'd say I more prefer her singing than speaking. I still can't forget how amazing she was singing Someone To Watch Over Me. It may not have been her style, but it was exquisite.

Great interview with Allison and I can't wait to watch part 2. Allison is a real 17 year old and I'm glad she's not all pageantry and polish. I think she did very well communicating what the songs are about and mean to her.

I liked how she said she looked to experiences friends had been through and 'walked in their shoes' on some of these. She's also a strong young woman to have been able to endure the criticisms, often unwarranted, and continue on.

In your face suckers indeed. I'm waiting to be able to hear the full songs.

Allison is great. She is ridiculously talented. She is beautiful. She is charismatic. She is so smart. She is grounded and mature. She is successful. Is she eloquent ? Well, everything takes time.
It's always easy to judge somebody. Anyways, nobody's perfect. :(

PRMari
If anything, I think Allison expresses herself best when she's singing. To me, that's when she really shows off who she is

Word. Its really about the music with her.

I've gotten used to her interviews. I'm just happy that she seems to speak the truth, and I think she'll continue to get more comfortable.

I had so much anticipation for Adam's debut, but from the first single and the album snippets, I must say I am somewhat disappointed. Of course I will need to listen to the album as a whole first. In contrast, I liked Allison's voice but her persona just didn't do much for me. It's funny how I was rooting for Adam and now I like Allison's' music more. Just from her album song snippets there are some songs of hers I am going to download immediately. In these interviews she seems like she has trouble explaining all of the songs. This might be because she was rushed through it so fast that she can't remember them all. It's going to be an interesting next few months when Idol debut albums come out and the charts will tell the story.

I actually agree with Simon with his assessment of her being mechanical and not singing with her emotion.
If anything, I think Allison expresses herself best when she's singing. To me, that's when she really shows off who she is and to say she doesn't connect with songs is just something I personally can't understand. I've seen this girl cry while performing, if that's not connecting to a song, I don't know what is.

That girl needs speech lessons. Her manner of speech is off putting. As far as her success I see her having maybe a Jordin type path with her latest album. She'll maybe have a good amount of sales for her single but won't manage to sell records. Hopefully she will break the 100k mark for total sales. There's just something that doesn't connect with this girl. I actually agree with Simon with his assessment of her being mechanical and not singing with her emotion
