Allison Iraheta – The Ellen Degeneres Show – VIDEO

Allison Iraheta performs her single “Friday I’ll Be Over U” on the Ellen Degeneres Show, airing today (December 7). I Ellen at 9 am in my market, so lucky me!
Love Allison, love her band. Check it out after the jump.
Video after the JUMP…

BTW, alli lurker, any comments about my Dilana post earlier?
ETA: ok, on to my commute and to listen to the CD. I hope traffic is murder
I don’t care what you guys say, I like Beat me up, yes, I like it. It’s so much fun and it always wakes me up when I’m sleepy and driving home from work.
Allison flip-flopping, it’s no different than how every day I have a different favorite song or a different pair of shoes, etc. Depending on her mood, she could change her mind. Maybe she’s falling for some guy now and that’s why No one else became one of her favorite songs recently. It’s the one song that is hopeful and about good love. She loved Holiday and still does but maybe the whole Dilana thing made her love for the song fade away a little bit and now she’s more in love with Dont’ waste the pretty because of the acoustic performances. It’s normal.
We’re down so far we need oxygen.
I can’t rank them, except to say the ones I play the most are TI, DWTP, You Don’t Know Me, and Holiday. But, my mood keeps changing, as I do like them all. Usually whatever I play last stays in my head until I play another one – even if it’s the next day. I must say that even though they’re not at the top of my list, Still Breathing and Pieces are really catchy and hang in there in my brain pretty firmly.
I guess I also have a BMU lyrics problem, but I do like the music.
LoveDaRocker – re: Dilana – I saw most of that interview on Yahoo a while back. If she wants to write a soulful rock song for/with Allison, that’s cool. I’m done talking about her, though.
PRMari – Hey BMU is in my top 3 – I love it, too! Don’t know if it will ever be a single, though. I regret what I said about it being one of the songs with no heart. If anything, its OTT, crazy heart (if you know what I mean). Love your comments about flip-flopping – makes sense.
I need to take a break now, too. I’ll check back here in a few hours.
Coincidentially, the song playing when I got in the car was BMU.
I listened to a line that changed my mind a bit. She saya ‘ I guess you’ll never now’, which leans towards psychological abuse.
But its buried in there.
There’s also the line about how “You always pick me up and then you hold me down” that speaks to a relationship in which he builds her up and then holds her back, again, psychological.
Interesting that she tweeted today about her New Years appearance, but not about the upcoming Jingle Ball or Kimmel. Its seems kind of far in advance to tweet about New Years…. I like to think it means that maybe she’s gonna play something different for us? I guess time will tell. (If JohnM were here he I’m sure he’d burst my bubble.)
She also tweeted a cute picture of her and Jordin if you haven’t seen it (jordison).
I guess she did some kind of backstage appearance in Philly:
http://www.q102.com/pages/events/jingleball09/
That is why I won’t do a ranking.
BTW – I wandered over to YouTube and found that the 2 album songs that had far and away the most views and comments were:
BMU and Robot
Maybe we old fuddy duddies really shouldn’t be the target audience.Just as long as Allison continues to do our kind of “rock and soul”.
Gotta make dinner and watch SYTYCD results now, even though I already know the results – thank you mj. (My wife doesn’t like surprises)
My 15 and 17 year old nieces love Robot Love, Beat me up and Holiday, go figure. They also quite like FIBOU.
It sure is tough to please everyone, I bet. I figure that she’ll eventually end up doing what she loves and those of us who love it too will stay with her. I wish that for her anyway.
‘Rock and Soul’ – I like that!
ETA: Something new for alliology!
Sometime when you have a chance… could you tell me more about Janis – maybe describe how you felt when you saw her, what the crowd reaction was like. Can’t get enough of your ‘icon’ stories. This is a good place for it, too – being underground and all.
I’m going to sign off soon, but I’ll look back here again.
I thought this was gone…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q8Y8xV_Bqo
Gonna watch a few times in case it disappears again!
Oh yeah, I’m here — I just had a really busy workday and a lot of hours moving a whole lotta wet snow (Puerto Rico and LA are sounding pretty good right about now!), plus I spent tonight at a typically rockin’-awesome Company Of Thieves concert — woohoo! So I’m just catching up now.
About the flip-flopping — I just figure that the various things she mentions aren’t contradictory; they simply paint a composite picture of what she likes — rock, soul, Pink, Weezer, etc. etc. (btw, if you heard about the Weezer bus crash the other day — that was about 30 miles from my house.)
LoveDaRocker, I was bellowing hysterically when I read your ranking! Hilarious!
Guilty as charged here! In my non-meat book, it’s between chocolate and cheesecake. (Guess what I had for dessert tonight?)
Yeah, cause I’m a mean geek like that.
About the song rankings, it’s hard for me to rank them too — I can put them in general good/better/best groups, but that’s about it. And part of what makes it hard for me is that I have to break some of the songs down into verses, choruses, and bridges, and consider them separately — yeah, it’s Dissertation Man at work again, picking at the minute details. For example, I really like the Still Breathing verses a lot, but the choruses are just too over-produced (though growing on me somewhat) — so based on the verses, I’d rank it quite high, but based on the choruses, I’d rank it pretty low.
All I’ll say at the moment (after all, it’s 1:15 in the morning) is the following. When I heard the clips, I thought that DWTP, D, TI, and YDKM would be favorites, and that’s exactly how it has played out — I consider those my top 4. I thought Pieces had potential, but still I was interested to find that it has become my “most improved” song going from the clip to repeated listens of the whole thing — it has really grown on me. I won’t list my middle and bottom tiers at the moment. But about The Daughtry Song (and that’s its official title now!), I like it fine, but it’s near the bottom — it’s just an ordinary pop-rock song, not very well-written, and I think if Daughtry were singing it instead of Allison I’d probably just think “God, what a boring piece of blah”. His voice really gets on my nerves.
All right, time for a few hours of sleep. Yes, I’m now ready to admit that I do sleep a few hours on occasion…
Does anyone have a link to Allison’s AOL session of Holiday?
If you mean the actual AOL Session, nobody here seems to have a clue when this session is going up. There was a brief moment when several, including Holiday, appeared on the AOL site. If you mean a YouTube of Holiday that was captured from the brief moment, it was removed a few days ago. There is a YouTube of Trouble Is that still is up (for the moment).

Thanks alli lurker. Jordin tweeted that she wasn’t feeling well, and had a bad sinus headache last night.
Well it’s 2 am here, but I just happen to be up, so I’ll try to make this coherent.
I wonder if there are many other Allison fans who also appreciate Jordin Sparks. Although the two of them seem quite different in many ways, I feel there are also a lot of similarities. The main one: they are talented teenage girls who sing for the pure love of it.
Jordin seems to have no fear in regard to singing anything with anybody, under just about any conditions. She’s put out Youtubes of jam sessions, in shorts, no makeup, hair pulled back – whatever – strumming her guitar and just having fun. For charity (she does lots of charity events), she sang an unrehearsed Bridge Over Troubled Water with Josh Groban. After a concert in Nashville, with Vince Gill, she dropped into a country joint and sang “Crazy.” She seems to love to sing Country.
I’m not that crazy about the poppy stuff that Jordin has on her 2 albums. I think she really is meant to do ballads, but Jive has stuck her in a pop box. I think her national anthem is one of the better ones I’ve ever heard. And, she seems like a genuinely nice person.
I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Jordin and Allison tour together, although I don’t know how well it would do commercially. I think Jordin might be a good influence on Allison, like a big sister. I suspect they might get along. Although Allison isn’t ready to headline a tour, I fear that if she opens with someone too big she might be ignored by the fans and the press. Case in point: Jordin opening for the Jonas Brothers and Britney Spears. But, would a Jordin/Allison concert draw a crowd?
Anyway, it’s late, and I’m not too coherent.
As to the stories about the “good old days,” I’d be happy to share more of that stuff later – as much as I remember! However, right now I think I better get some sleep.
Later.
jordison – re: Jordin – I like Jordin, I was happy that she won her season. I would have been happy if Melinda would have won, too. My problem with Jordin is that she is too wholesome. I like my singers a little messier (despite my Dilana comments!), and more complicated. Its just more interesting to me.
JohnM – I knew you were out there somewhere!
Trouble Is Vid & Dave Immerman – That boy has really come around. When I first saw him out on the radio promo tour, I wasn’t sure about him. I remember one time when she called him ‘home boy’, I thought he was going to roll his eyes at her. Now all I see is admiration and excitement. Love it.
She does that to people, doesn’t she?
I hadn’t gotten around to capturing the AOL audio to keep — figured the originals would be posted soon — so I did it this morning with that Trouble Is copy. Sounds like the person who put it up captured it at lower quality than the ones I saw before. Bummer. Sure hope AOL puts them back up soon, and that they get put up for sale.
Me too. She’s too “good” for my taste, heh.
Gonna try an experiment since there’s just a few of us here and we are in the first ‘twitter season’…
To The Divine Miss A – Hey Soul Sister… “I need a sign to let me know you’re here. All of these lines being crossed over the atmosphere.” (Train, ‘Calling All Angels’ – I think their vibe would be a good vibe for Allison.)
Anyway the sign will be to send a tweet that starts with an exclamation point (!) or many (!!!!). Do it and we won’t say a word.
“I won’t give up if you don’t give up.”
alli lurker, I don’t really understand what the (exclamation) point of your post was, but I like the Train reference!
AOL Sessions Videos: my experience with the AOL session videos is that a google search will generally turn up at least one of them. Something like “Allison Trouble Is AOL” generally does the trick.
. Definitely above “The Daughtry Song” (aka “I don’t wanna be wrong”).
BMU LoveDaRocker update: I made my peace with BMU, so now is “charting” in my rotation
Daughtry: regarding Daughtry’s bland pop rock, somehow it has work wonders for him. Except a few songs, I have not figured out what’s the big deal. It might be another case of personality/likeability over material. Speaking of which, how many posts regarding he whose name shall not be spoken on an Allison thread are we gonna get before another for La Princesa?
Jordin: too goody two-shows for me. That said, it wouldn’t be a bad concert. Kind of a pop/rock teen-empowerment vibe. I hope an established pop-rock act, preferrably female, takes notice and contacts Alli.
Trouble Is Vid and Dave I: One of my favorite parts of the video is when she does her first all out “I don’t know which way to fall” wail and the camera show him with this “oh yeah, rock-on girl” expression.
Train: I like Train. Its a bit bland, but songs are well written and they know how to write a good hook.
But lurker, Jordin has a tattoo! Really – I’m not just making a pun about the song.
Isn’t the expression “goody two shoes? And where the heck does “goody two shoes” come from? I’ve heard that expression all my life and never understood it. Don’t most people wear two shoes? Was there a person named Goody Two Shoes? Or, does this refer to a scenario where a person opens a box of shoes and says in effect “Oh goody, there are actually two shoes in there, and I thought there might only be one – yippee!
There are a lot of expressions like that. We could always go down the list while we’re waiting for the next bit of Allison news.
ETA – I guess I’m a closet wholesome person.
Ugh, must I always be so literal? The point of the post was to see if Allison reads our posts (as jordison and I have discussed) and if she does, I would like for her to send a tweet that begins with an exclamation point (or points). That way we’ll know, and she won’t cause a stir by saying it directly.
I thought it might be a good time to try this since we’re way underground on this thread and not too many people will know what’s going on. I may even ask MJ to delete the posts if she does it.
LoveDaRocker – Yes, their music might be a bit too ‘lite’ for her, but I like how they emphasize the singer’s voice and he sings with some soul, too.
ETA: I’m obsessing over their song ‘I Am” right now… “I’m here for my sanity, sanity, I am here for you.”
I’m hoping for Sheryl Crow (maybe too big of a dream?) because I thought it would capture Allison’s demographic of moms + daughters, and give Allison some rock credibility.
Question -
What would you prefer, a short set as one or more preliminary acts for a really big name star, or, a longer set opening as the only other act with a moderately well known act? I’m really not sure which I prefer – also the worry about vocal fatigue with a longer set. Then again, I would love to go to a concert with Allison doing a full set of her songs.
BTW – Jordin has more than one woman in her band – including her guitar player.
I’m going to be away from my computer for a while now – errands to run.
alli lurker:I can see her singing Train-type songs. I hope her next also album brings a variety of styles, and a Train song could fit.
.
jordison: Typo. It is goody two-shoes. The w is by the e in the keyboard
I called a friend in PR who I know liked Allison during the season. I asked her if she heard the new songs, and she said: “is it out? I didn’t know” (gasp). I thought, ok, I’ll be an ambassador and tell her that it is awesome. She said she’ll download it. Then she said: “I heard about ****** going over the top in some performance” (double gasp).
jordison
I would go for the short set with a bigger star. Although we love her whole CD, we can’t expect (yet) for everyone to be so on-board. So, I would guess it would be better for her pick her favorite 5 songs (or so) and give them her all. It makes sense to me.
Of course, this is picking between filet mignon and primer rib (or between chocolate and cheesecake). If the other act is the right act (or at least is not he whose name …), I would be happy either way.
jordison – Obviously I would pick the longer set with the bigger star!! But since I don’t have that choice, I’m with LoveDaRocker – short set with big star.
Plus, I’ve seen Sheryl Crow outdoors at the venue where I would like to see Allison, and it was magical. One of my favorite shows ever.
Not sure I would go if the other act was teeny bopper.
Or, speaks about picking her up and then holding her down
.
As I said in a previous post, I am fine with it. Its well written. It says what it says. But the references to domestic violence are intentional.
News Flash from Allison’s website:
Soungs like a good gig. IIRC, Georgia is a good host to Idols.
Also, seems like she is the only musical act. Cool.
I’m going to be honest with you. I don’t get domestic violence from that song, I get emotional roller coaster and rough sex. There, I said it.
Maybe is how kids speak these days. And, English is not my first language. So there might be a semantics issue. But …
Even though you beat me up,
I still love you cause you heat me up,
that’s why every time you hit me up,
I come running cause you fix me up,
oh baby just beat me up.
Ouch!
BTW, I interned one summer in a Legal Aid Office, and also worked during a semester at a DA’s Office. Worked directly with Domestic Violence cases. So maybe I am more sensitive to these types of references than most.
I swear, that’s the last time I post anything critizicing the song, unless solicited
.
ETA: rough sex? See, that didn’t even crossed my mind. So, its all relative.
Following up on the rock-n-rackets gig, here is the website with Allison showcased:
).
Rock-n-Rackets
MJ should post this, so that Idol fans in the area may attend (and record
LoveDaRocker, the phrase “hit me up” is slang for calling someone, asking them to get together, or things along those lines — that one doesn’t have any negative meaning at all if you know the slang. Goes back at least to the 70s, as I remember it from when I was a teenager or college student. (Unfortunately, not everyone knows the slang, not just you non-native-English speakers — I had to explain it to my 13-year-old — she thought it was a violent reference too.)
As for “fix me up”, I’m not sure why you highlighted “fix”. I think “fix me up” just means “make me feel better” or something like that.
I’m not inclined to discuss this whole thing at length, at least at the moment, and don’t have time to anyway right now, but I wanted to pass along those explanations/comments.
ETA: Do you want to email mj that Rock-n-Racquets info so that she’ll post something about it?
And hopefully this will give us another thread on Sunday!
I think we should let MJ know.
Objectively, this is more noteworthy than Gokey’s radio promos.
Do you want me to email her, or will you?
I have never emailed her, so she might think is Spam. Whether you have in the past or not, go ahead and email her.
Just want to make something clear. I don’t know what Kevin Rudolf’s intentions were when he wrote Beat me up and my interpretation of the song doesn’t make it any more appropriate. I’m just saying what I get from the lyrics and the general vibe of the song. There are some lines in that song that are just incredibly suggestive and not exactly of physical abuse.
I emailed mj about the tennis performance on Saturday.
It wouldn’t be the first song that means different things to different people.
Thanks JohnM! I hope something is up tomorrow, so that people in the area who might want to see Allison could make it part of the weekend schedule.
Wahoo! She was in Boston tonight at Kiss108, and did an acoustic Scars:

Thank you! I can’t listen yet, but I’m sure it’s gorgeous.
Better audio and with an introductory chat with the DJ/host — audio only:

MJ just set up a new thread – we can come up for air now. Yay.
