2nd Update: According to Deadline Hollywood, auditions will not start until September! (Probably waiting for Simon’s seat to be filled). Plus, there will be a Cowell “sendoff”. Read more HERE. Nice summary from Reality Blurred HERE.
UPDATE: Report from the FOX Upfronts via the New York Times:
Fox says the search for Simon Cowell’s replacement on “American Idol” will happen in earnest this summer.
Peter Rice, the chairman of entertainment for the Fox Networks Group, said Monday that “we have to find a judge to replace Simon that provides both music credibility and incredible entertainment value.”
Kevin Reilly, Fox’s entertainment president, said: “We’ve heard consistently from audiences they would like more performances and tighter results shows, so that’s what we’re going to do as we get into the spring.”
Notable: Glee moves to Tuesdays at 8 pm in the fall, then moves to Wednesdays at 9 pm when Idol begins in January.
The American Idol 10 performance show is scheduled for 90 minutes on Tuesdays at 8 pm and the results show for 30 minutes at 8:30 on Wednesdays, with Glee following at 9 pm.
Thirty minute results shows were announced by FOX at the upfronts 2 years ago, and well, that didn’t pan out. In fact, it was never mentioned again after the initial announcement. We’ll see if it actually happens for Season 10.
Hopefully, with the performance show expanded to 90 minutes, we’ll get more music in the final weeks of the competition. Also expect some futzing around with the schedule during the Audition and Hollywood Rounds. Plus, the first few weeks of the semi-final and final rounds will likely be expanded to two hours to accommodate 10+ performances.
UPDATE: Glee will get the coveted post-Superbowl spot according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Remember, the schedule posted after the jump is TENTATIVE.
