American Idol callback auditions went down yesterday and today in Los Angeles, and there were NO tweets from Nigel Lythgoe? Maybe he decided to stay quiet after the little twitter tiff he had with fans after announcing that a 15 year old might win Idol. Heh.
According to JoesPlace blog, MySpace auditioners joined the Los Angeles hopefuls at the AT&T building in LA to sing in front of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler.
The jaded Los Angeles press didn’t report on the callbacks, but there are reports beginning to emerge from the afternoon press conference with the celebrity judges and Ryan Seacrest .
Here are a few quotes from the Los Angeles Times (Read more HERE) and from Access Hollywood
But back to what the reality competition series is supposed to be all about: talent. A newbie to the judging block, Lopez said she’s been impressed with the contestant pool.
“We’ve put a bunch of people through — probably more than they have in the past, ” she said. “We have about 15-20 real superstars … people who could be recording artists.”
“I think everyone tried to be as honest as they can without breaking anyone’s spirits, ” Lopez said. “We’re not out to cut them down or make a joke of them.”
Adding to that, Tyler said: “We don’t beat them up. Some really think they’re all that, and we let them down easy. Sometimes it’d be nice to flambé them …”
Steven Tyler commented on Kid Rock’s recent criticism of the Aerosmith frontman’s decision to work on Idol:
“I think whoever’s advising him, ” he continued, “we should bring back the guillotine, or whatever they call that thing. And if it was himself, he needs some serious counseling. I love him to death, but I gotta speak the truth.”
Tyler’s retort at today’s press conference: “He’s just jealous … And he’s working his new record, so God bless him.”
Jennifer Lopez is looking forward to some twang:
“I think we’ve seen a lot of great country, ” Jennifer said.
On auditioners singing “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing”
Steven revealed that his band Aerosmith’s song “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” has been a popular audition number, and J. Lo said one contestant actually got it right.
“We had one girl, well, you’ll see, ” Jennifer enthused. “It was awesome… an amazing moment.”
