American Idol 9: New Promos and TV Commercials
Entertainment Weekly posted some new promo posters for American Idol Season 9. EW magazine’s Idol expert, Michael Slezak raves, “The fact that Fox is going with a contestant-focused theme for the show’s season 9 campaign is good news for all us Idoloonies who know that at its heart, the show is about finding the next Kris-Adam-Allison, not a coherent pinch-hitter for Paula Abdul.”
Well, we’ll see once Season 9 begins on January 12. I remember last year’s ad campaign also focusing on the aspirational dreams of ordinary hopefuls (those commercials featuring winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood were dynamite…) But once the season started? Judges who loved to hear themselves talk meant less contestant singing. BOO.
Also the peeps in the photos ARE models. No pimping going on yet…at least in the posters. After the jump, check out a couple of new FOX commercials. One commercial features Kris Allen’s winning moment cut with ordinary peeps singing in the shower, at work, etc. Another features actual hopefuls where there could be a bit of early pimping going on…Hm.
Nevertheless, the new season is almost here, and I cannot wait…

I just hate the fact the fact whilst the winner of season 9’s will be announced, I’ll be studying for my finals. Dammit!

Perez Hilton is reporting that Idol will be on in the 9pm slot instead if the usual 8pm on Tuesdays
Season 9 can not come soon enough! I do like the premise of these ads even if I highly doubt the upcoming pimpees wil be complete unknowns with zero previous experience.
Last years commercials were amazing. I always thought Kelly should have been featured in one too.

Is that Leneshe Young at the beginning of the first video? (The young girl who auditioned in Kentucky with her original tune, “Nati” last season?) A lot of people were surprised when she was cut early last year and predicted she’d be back this year.
Is idol really on at 9? Up against the final season of Lost, which is scheduled for Tuesdays at 9? Yuk. DVR’ing AI, watching Lost. Boo – it will affect my chat time!
Is the information creditable though? Most of their posts make no sense at all. There just isn’t anything factual there. lol
Sure. It’s as credible as anyone else’s. I’ve been reading the spoiler information they’ve dug up for years. They get a lot of it with the help of Joe’s Place, which is very reliable. I still remember the list that included David Cook, who, at the time, didn’t impress me at all just reading about him. (I say once again, thank heavens for the writers’ strike!!)
Being highly featured in the pre-idol promos is the kiss of death.

Really? I’m very curious, how is it distasteful?

LOL at that chick in the poster singing in front of a boom box circa 1980. So you have Simon’s last season of AI vs. the last season of Lost? Holy clash of the pop culture icons. (I hope Lost wins.)
