American Idol Dominates Wednesday Ratings
From Variety:
“American Idol” thoroughly trounced the competition at 8 o’clock to propel Fox to a dominant win in Wednesday night’s TV race. The network’s 18-49 demos were higher than NBC, CBS and ABC’s combined.
“Idol” (10.1 rating/25 share, 26.9 million viewers) saw a slight uptick compared to last Wednesday’s broadcast in both ratings and total eyeballs. NBC’s “Knight Rider” (1.9/5, 6.1 million viewers) came in second, barely edging out a repeat of “Lost” (1.7/4, 5.2 million viewers). CBS offered a Katie Couric news special (1.2/3, 6.4 million viewers) and a repeat of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (1.1/3, 4.9 million viewers) a half-hour later.
Season 7, on the corresponding night, it was the Miami auditions, and Idol netted 25.6M viewers and a 10.1/26 ratings share…

Positive momentum it appears!
Hmmmm. this uptick in viewership last night…. the “Archuleta” effect maybe? Would be curious to know how many people were lured back into watching the SLC auditions for the sole purpose of seeing him on Idol again…. I’m in that demographic, and I know that was the only reason I tuned in and watched the whole audition… for the first time this season…. LOLOL….
Whatever the reason it’s good to see upward momentum for a change. I guess rumors of idol’s demise are premature indeed!

Ok, that can’t be just a coincidence. The episode where DA fans/casual likers figured they may see him again gets season highs in the demo AI has been bleeding as of late? Last night I was wondering if there would be an increase in the key demo, but dismissed it as crazy thoughts. Now I’m not so sure. lol.
If it’s just this episode (and the ratings drop next week), then it’s because of David Archuleta. But if every episode after this sees a rise then it’s a trend since I think it’s been rising from the time AI started.
ETA: I looked at the ratings since it started this year – 30 m, 29M, 22 (Inauguration), 25.3, 25 and now ~27M.
The ratings will drop next week because its Hollywood week. That’s traditionally the lowest rated segment.
And not to take anything from Archie, but I’m pretty sure Kelly Clarkson had something to do with the ratings.
Didn’t they also pimp the fact that Kelly’s video was premiered during the SLC auditions? Might have something to do with it….
I don’t remember Jolene but they did show that clip of David and said they were going to his hometown. I’m sure it is a little of both.
Yeah, it’s probably both.
Kelly’s sneak peek wasn’t widely advertised offline (if I hadn’t been online or watching FOX right before the episode started I wouldn’t have known), but it could have been spread enough to cause some of an impact.
I don’t watch a lot of Fox other than AI and House so I don’t know how widespread promo was but they did show a commercial for the video preview during House on Monday night.
Salt Lake City Brings Some Fresh Air to American Idol
The contestants were all ridiculously polite, even when the judges weren’t kind.

The second to last night of auditions brought the American Idol judges to Salt Lake City, the hometown of last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s winner David Archuleta.
