Fox Reality’s American Idol Extra debuted tonight on Fox Reality, and I’m watching it right now. The Extra cameras were filming David Hernandez as he said goodbye to the judges and castmates . Syesha Mercado was crying. All three judges hugged David, and Simon Cowell talked to him for a bit. David said that Simon thought maybe he was down because of last week’s media scandal (News of David’s history as a stripper in a gay nightclub was posted on nearly every media site).
David said he wasn’t down, but that the song choice, “I Saw Her Standing There” wasn’t his first. He wanted to sing “Let it Be”. Numbers were pulled out of a hat, and he lost. “The song I got stuck with,” he said, “Wasn’t one of my personal favorites, but I tried to make the song my own. Obviously it didn’t work out too well.”
David says he’s got some offers already. He’s upbeat and looks forward to the future.
Sanjaya Malaker is on the show, and he says he would have chosen “Michelle” if Season 6 had done a Beatles’ theme. He’s working on an album right now.
Melinda Doolittle was also interviewed, and she’s also working on a CD. “Slated to come out in June,” she says. She wrote a song with Jonny Lang. She says the album will be “a little rock grit with some funk and some soul.”
Simon Cowell thinks that David looked “Defeated…haunted.” Simon thinks the scandal got to him.
Gina Glocksen and Constantine Maroulis are co-hosts. Watching them read lame crap off of cue cards is pretty funny.
Amanda Overmyer’s song choice was also her second choice. But she says, “it ended up working out for me, and that it was the song out of all of them I should have picked anyways.”
Jason Castro related very much to the song he sang this week. He says that right now, he’s “On the verge” with someone…
David Hernandez wanted to sing “Yesterday” next week.

I don’t understand the question. They drew a number that told them what order they were in for getting the song those chose.
Garrett said (back in Top 24 week, I think) each contestant chose 3 songs off the list of 50 songs, but by the time the pecking order got to him, the 3 songs he had chosen had already been taken by others who were higher up in the pecking order, or perhaps he kept losing the hat/number drawing.
In the case mentioned by David H. David said more than one contestant chose “Let It Be” so they each were assigned a number, corresponding numbers were put in a hat, and the person who’s number was chosen got first choice. The person or people who’s name/s were not chosen first have to pick something else.
I htink Melinda’s the only one from lst year who would hold any chance of doing good this season…
It really sucks david h went…he didnt deserve it but he did suck on tuesday…he didnt even get to show off his pole routine
dukesterathlete - LOL at pole routine.. You made me laugh for the first time since litte D choked..:-(
I loved seeing Melinda again. Her CD will be amazing. She has stated that she will be releasing at least one single before her CD is released in May or June, maybe the Jonny Lang/Melinda Doolittle single???
I’m still trying to figure out the super-hype surrounding Season 7–things seem a bit disjointed at times. Even the inane banter between the judges and Ryan has reached a new level of weirdness!! Good luck to all of the contestants. I am sure that they will all have bright futures.
That’s exactly what I think Shirley!
