American Idol Final 2 Spoilers Recap – Cookie sings U2, Archie Reprises “Imagine”
Let’s re-organize the information we have, shall we?
Song Spoilers:
- Personal song choices have leaked: David Archuleta will reprise “Imagine” per Nigel Lythgoe Thursday on Ryan Seacrest’s KISS morning show. David Cook will sing a new song, U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, per a report on FOX news. Cookie is the first Idol to get a U2 song cleared for competition.
- The Davids picked their own coronation song from the 10 most popular songs in the list of 20 that were available for online voting, per Nigel. How’s that for a twist? We don’t know which song either contestant has chosen yet.
- Clive Davis chose a song for the Davids. There are rumors swirling about, but there are no clear choices yet. I’ll bet the picks are AWESOME! /sarcasm.
Wednesday Finale:
- The So You Think You Can Dance dancers will be performing on Wednesday’s finale
- Two Idols from each of the previous six seasons will come back to perform a group number. Hooray! Bo Bice has already confirmed. Yahoo.
- Carrie Underwood will perform her new single “Last Name”, according to her My Space.
- Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to be another à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dead Elvisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ video (last year, Celine Dion sang a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“duetà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ with Elvis Presley), this time including several people, per Nigel on KISS.
- The à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“biggest starà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in the world will be there, says Nigel. Robert Downey Jr. perhaps? He’ll be there according to the FOX report. Nigel is probably high enough to think Robert Downey Jr. is a big star.
- Nigel told Ryan this morning that the Top 5 will sing duets with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“somebodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . FOX news is reporting (see video after the jump) that “each of the Idols” will be singing with one of the celebrity mentors who appeared during the season. There were four mentors: Mariah Carey, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton and Andrew Lloyd Webber. If she’s talking about the Top 5 duets, who would be the 5th mentor? Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr? McCartney would fit the “biggest star in the world” description. But, neither Beatle were actually mentors. Or, maybe the FOX reporter is talking about something else entirely?
- Nigel and FOX confirmed a Jonas Brothers appearance.
- Paula Abdul will debut a song from her upcoming album, and the Top 12 will also be performing alongside Paula for a special group number. Who knows. Maybe Pauler got cold feet and changed her mind. Yahoo.
- The band One Republic (responsible for the mega-hit à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Apologizeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Ryan Tedder from the band recently wrote for Clay Aiken and Blake Lewis) canceled a gig in order to be available for the finale. Daily Press

- FOX News report – Video after the JUMP…

I loved what AI did with Elvis and Celine. It was breathtaking…
I am wondering if they will do something with the Beatles, in some way bringing back John and George. I so, the big star would be Paul McCartney. The second person would be Ringo Starr. OMG, I just cannot imagine how this would be handled.
Oh great, lots of singing and dancing? I wonder if Jason is ready? Oh, I do look forward to seeing DA and DC perform. It sounds like it WILL be a terrific final two.
Hmmm. Archuleta is singing the song that made him the front-runner. Smart choice…..Jeff. lol
I usually hate Idol reprises. They’re never as good as when they initially performed them.
And I guess this is the first time where the final two were both 1) neither in the bottom 2/3 and 2) pretty much have equal chances of winning….although I think Archuleta’s gonna pull this one out.
“biggest star in the world”… this could be Carrie. or JHud. Or Daughtry. I think Nigel would be inclined to pimp an alumni, especially one still managed by “the home team”. So, I’m betting the “Biggest Star” refers to Carrie or Daughtry.
Another option: Sir Paul McCartney. More Beatles songs. I know he doesn’t own the publishing anymore but it seems AI had some sort of “deal” on those songs so… I’ll toss it out there.
Duets… I have no idea what the Fox News reporter was saying (and neither does she). I am betting that “celebrity mentor” doesn’t mean one of the mentors who appeared on the show this year, but simply a musical celebrity of some sort. A girl can dream… right?
On that topic… still hoping both boys bring it for tonight’s performances.
I really like the fact that Cook is taking a risk with U2; the man has cajones!
I think Archie could crash & burn w/ “Imagine.” It’s hard to capture something that was positively received the first time around (although I hated it). And it’s a slow song – if both of his other ones are slow, he could be boooooring.
My only hopes for the finale:
1. They give Michael Johns some screen time and let him actually sing more than one line. Chance of this happening — 20%. I don’t think TPTB will want him highlighted in any way.
2. Michael Johns IS NOT signing with 19A-z and affiliates. Chance of this happening 20%. I think 19 will scoop him up and DeGarmo him.
Chances of me be happy with the finale: 20% … see above.
The setup for the win goes to Cook and I don’t expect any other outcome. I like him well enough, so good on him.
I think Archie could crash & burn w/ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Imagine.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I think if you love Archie, you’ll love it. If you don’t, you won’t. I don’t think it will sway any new undecideds considering they played snips of it last week during his homecoming package.
Can’t wait for tonight! And it’s sounding promising for tomorrow, unlike last year’s dreadful finale.
DCFTW
I think they’ll give Michael a little screen time, T2. They know he’s very popular and looks good which never hurts. I figure if nothing else Michael will inject the spark they’ve missed in the group numbers and there’s always the chance of another chest bump. :laugh_tb: I also think if Michael does sign with 19, they’re not going to Bo Bice him or whatever because it’s a waste of their money. It’s to their advantage if he does well.
I’m happy that the idols are coming back for a group number. Too bad we have to listen to Carrie yet again. I’m so tired of her.
Biggest star – Paul McCartney or Bono?
Amen to that. I do not enjoy her performances at all.
Oh goodie, we get the Jonas Brothers again. Boy, I can’t wait for that /sarcasm.
I was just listening to a Jason Castro interview and he said something like those who are not in the Ffinal 2 have to learn SEVEN songs for the finale. Yay!!!
Awesome! I’m more interested in Wed than tonight. LOL.
He’s probably doing at least 2 medleys, maybe one duet and a short solo (I hope). The boy must have been wishing he made it to the finals instead when he first learned he would need to learn not just 3 songs but double that number. LOL
I’m very excited, too! Wooo!
It sucks that I would probably miss the live broadcast here, though, since I would be on the road (from out of town) at the time. :s Aah…replays will just have to do it for me.
Wonder if Cookie will have the choir for the U2 song?

This morning on my local Fox channel, reporters interviewing some of the Top 10. She asked every one of them who they thought would win – apparently someone put the kabash on them picking a fave – all of them responded that they are not allowed to say who their favorite is.
BUT, MJ, after being asked the question said the following: “I’m not allowed to say who I think will win. BUT DAVID COOK IS MY MAN.”
Justin Guarini (sp?) when asked the same question, said “I work for Fox and we’re not allowed to say who we think will win.”
I can’t remember this in the past – I remember exiled Idols being able to say who they wanted/expected to win.
Ryan’s interview with Nigel was interesting. It does sound like they’re going to do a Beatles Reunion!
Who’s the “biggest star in the world right now”?
I’m gonna go with Robert Downey, Jr. After all, “Iron Man” was the top movie a week ago.
Madonna’s album is number one on the UK charts and the Euro charts.
Rhianna’s album is number one in Canada, and her single is number one in the US… “right now”
I still have Kalan Porter’s version of ISHFWILF in one of my folders. That boy can sang!! I hope Cook can do it half as well, then I’ll be happy.
