American Idol Finale Rumor and News Roundup:

Tonight’s finale lineup features performances from Steve Martin, Cyndi Lauper, Queen Latifah, Black Eyed Peas, Lionel Richie, Carlos Santana, David Cook, Jason Mraz and Keith Urban.

Idol duets will feature Allison Iraheta with Cyndi Lauper, Kris Allen with Keith Urban, Danny Gokey with Lionel Richie and Carlos Santana will perform with the Top 13.   Rumor has it, Adam Lambert will perform with a rock band that is “sweet…too perfect.” KISS maybe?

Santana’s “Smooth” and Pink’s “So What” will be heard on the Idol stage tonight.

David Cook is set to perform the heart-wrenching “Permanent” as a tribute to his late brother Adam.   The single will go on sale after the finale with proceeds funding David’s cancer charity.

This Just In:

  • Anoop Desai and Megan Joy are singing Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” tonight. via twitter
  • Tatiana Del Toro will appear on the finale, according to Paula Abdul. via top idol.
  • Curt Smith of Tears for Fears was in the Idol audience last night–invited by Adam Lambert. Read Smith’s twitters. He calls “No Boundries” “God Awful” and says, “Fascinated by the Adam/Kris divide amongst friends and hating myself for it. It’s only a TV show designed to sell you things!!
  • Robert X. Sillerman, CEO of Idol parent company CKX anticipates signing both Adam Lambert and Kris Allen to record deals, but says, “I would not be surprised if…we signed more than two.”   USA Today
  • Nigel Lythgoe is NOT a fan of “No Boundaries”: “I didn”t like the final song that both guys had to sing. In truth their first songs were their best “Mad World” and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine.’” and “There are going to be some great guests tonight and I think it’s a close competition. The only downside is hearing the winner’s song again.”   As a side note, he says next year, SYTYCD will be moving to the fall permanently…via twitter

  • Is it gonna be awkward if David Cook comes up to talk to Kim & Justin?

or did he already & I missed it?

  • he hasnt yet jlc

  • I’m thinking that whoever wins, if there’s a single promoted to radio it’ll be a cover and not the coronation song.

I dunno, could be just me, but really, having a song with so much lyrical meaning behind ought to have a simple melody to back it up. No Melody is like masking a excellent fish with too much sauce, you taste only the sauce (the vocal acrobatics) and canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t appreciate the fish.

YES!! You hit the nail on the head. If people struggle to understand or hear even one single line in a song, it doesn’t matter HOW ‘meaningful’ the song as a whole is, no one is going to figure out what that meaning IS.

The only thought I’m left with after hearing that song (aside from “OMG WTF is that crap?!? I think I just had an aneurism…”) is “Hurricanes, okay – but what about the tornados, earthquakes & tsunamis? What about Global Thermonuclear War?” Somehow I don’t think that was the intention.

  • archucook hug!!!!!!! *heart heart*

I think you guys are missing the obvious – Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m guessing Adam is going to sing with Velvet Revolver. What could be more perfect – they are without a lead singer, and Slash has made comments that he likes Adam. I guess weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll find out.

I like this idea. A lot. I saw V.R. in concert last year and it was really amazing (and this, coming from someone who has never been a giant G’n'R or STP fan). Adam on stage with that band might cause me to faint.

    I will buy everything Adam records EXCEPT that G*d aweful à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Karaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .
I am tired of hearing that Adam is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“too theatricalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Frankly, when I pay $60 to see a concert, I want some theater.

DITTO!! …Except that most concerts here in Vancouver cost at least $70, lol. Bring on spectacular theatrical *entertainment*!

Hmmm…so he interviewed with the other guy…wonder if that means anything?

  • Bringing my own post over from the other thread…cuz it goes here…and..I want it on record. lol

I just had an epiphany. Took my dog outside, standing on a hill, overlooking the bay, sun shining, wind blowing fierce, acres of cherry trees in bloomà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I am absolutely positive that Adam will be the Amercian Idol.

  • Just about that time, folks! Enjoy the show!

The producers didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“giveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Adam anything – he asked. The others could have asked as well. They did not. That is where Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s theatre experience has paid offà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Exactly! Perhaps the contestants were not specifically told that they *could* ask, but that should not stop any of them from at least giving it a try, since the worst TPTB would do is say no. Adam’s theatre background has given him lots of ideas, why should he not use them if he can? He ought not to be blamed if the others weren’t able to come up with anything comparable. Gokey’s harp, anyone?

Finally, I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that they only had the song for about 36 hours before the show. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a song with no hook and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s jammed with tough lyrics.

I know, ridiculous!! In light of that fact, I’d say they both did a pretty frikkin’ admirable job of remembering *any* of those damn lyrics! Still doesn’t make it (the song) right, LOL. Kara Kara Kara (and the two other writers)…

  • Princessmela – re: Adam in Wicked. I believe Adam was in the touring production of Wicked, BUT he was an understudy, which means for the most part (as he stated in an interview), he was “the tall guy in the back”. So even if the show toured every single city in every single state in the U.S., that still does not mean that Adam would have been noticed at all. An understudy only performs “the big role” when/IF the main person is unable to perform on a particular night (to my limited understanding of the performing arts).

Lavender1960 – re: Canadian Idol coronation songs. I’ve watched every season of Canadian Idol (and for the record, I have been much more impressed, in general, with the Canadian talent than that which has appeared on A.I., but that is neither here nor there), and I have actually liked the winners’ songs – particularly Kalan Porter’s. Incidentally, Kalan’s coronation song debuted at No.1 on the Cdn. charts and stayed there for 8 weeks; became the biggest-selling debut single by a Canadian artist in the history of the Canadian charts. Maybe us Canadians are easier to please or just really like large doses of fromage (which is quite possible, considering how many Canadians love Celine Dion), but I think there’s a lesson in there somewhere, for A.I.
