Lauren Alaina became weepy as she shared how her mother helped the singer battle an eating disorder. The American Idol season 10 runner-up shared her story as a guest on a special women’s empowerment themed episode of the Harry show.

Harry Connick Jr. was not an American Idol judge in 2011 when a young 15 year old Lauren competed on the show, but he remembered watching her performances. Unknown to Harry and Idol viewers, was Lauren’s secret struggle with self-image issues as she dealt with the intense scrutiny brought by sudden fame.
Lauren hit bottom when a doctor warned her that bulimia could result in her never being able to sing again. She got help, and eventually recovered. Now she’s telling her story through song on her sophomore album, Road Less Traveled.
