American Idol Nielsen Overnights for Wednesday 2/14

From Mediaweek:

It was another slam-dunk midweek victory for Fox care of American Idol (Viewers: 24.59 million; A18-49: 9.8 rating/25 share) and the top-rated new series of the season, game show The Moment of Truth (Viewers: 14.47 million; A18-49: 6.2/16). Once again, Fox outdelivered the four competing networks combined among adults 18-49. But keep in mind that part of the average for The Moment of Truth included the last few minutes of American Idol. As for Idol, too bad Josiah did not make the final cut. Hopefully, he will find a way to get to the auditions again next year.

Aw, another disappointed Josiah fan! Marc Berman should check out Josiah’s MySpace. Heh.

Last year’s final Nielsen numbers for the reveal episode: 28.9 million; A18-49: 12.1/29.

People keep talking about coming back. Even Paula said it a few times; maybe Idol will change the rule.

geez, josiah has a unique, recognizable sound and is a decent songwriter. Methinks he will make it from his limited exposure on Idol. Probably wouldn’t have done well with all cover songs from different genres, but he sounds like a winner doing his own thing. thanks for the myspace link.

  3. 3 Chicago-sally Feb 14th, 2008 at 4:20 pm

Josiah aint going nowhere in the music business but Myspace. He doesn’t have the temperament to make it. I suspect he may be a Ritalin kid or even on drugs a bit….sleeping in his car while he can sleep in a warm bed at home? Come on — the kid is nutso. Maybe he is a “genius” somewhere, but is that the way to go about trying to have a music career?

  4. 4 Chicago-sally Feb 14th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Well TMZ is already starting stuff with David Archelta…you know it was bound to happen — oh the controversy!

You never knew a young, creative kid who just decided to hit the road and see what he could see? I knew quite a few, and I assure you they weren’t “nutso”. Just curious and adventurous. Maybe a little foolhardy–it’s called being YOUNG.

Truth be told, when my husband was 19 he did just that….hitchhiked across America.

I think he learned a lot and he’s no worse for it :-)

I’m not condoneing it though…lol…I’m older now and it’s horribly dangerous.

So….any kids reading this, DON’T DO IT!

    Oh…and don’t trust anyone over 30….

    uh…wait…..

“Come on — the kid is nutso.”

Wasn’t there a post here a couple of days ago about Josiah’s mother dying of cancer? (There was a link to her blog, I think.) I don’t know if he is usually this emotional or not, but this could account for him being pretty raw emotionally right now. Just sayin’…

  8. 8 Pixie Baker Feb 14th, 2008 at 6:25 pm

I agree Talullah….I read her blog and man it was really, really sad. I can’t imagine how tough that must be for the eight kids…the family is real close. I don’t think that he would be able to stand the pressure of the competition so when he didn’t make it…I was a tad relieved. Many have said that the process of AI is real intensive….I wish him well and I hope that some of his dreams do come true! Pix

  9. 9 pj Feb 14th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

Personally, I admire people who have the guts to risk everything and pursue their dreams. That’s true passion.

Is it wise? Perhaps not in some cases. But playing it safe doesn’t always pan out, either. At least he won’t have to look back and say “what if?”

  10. 10 poporange Feb 14th, 2008 at 7:10 pm

I guess unless you have a degree in phycology or have a PHD better stay away from judgements exspecially if you never talked to the kid. .I still think the age for Idol should be at least 18 or maybe 20s because at least thier out of high school .Maybe thier have some expearince of living life even though some may have been selling cds since 12.(parents help)

I for once am glad TMZ is picking up the story on the idol saying no expearince maybe thier do the others also. Fox news Talking about the top 24 when thier is a signifigant story about a colege shooting maybe Idolstory can wait …exspecially when another news program is telling about it. I really do not give a crap about puff pieces in those situations..and niether do people with reletives that go thier.

Wow Josiah is big news… peeps are talking about him in multiple threads. I sure dont get what all the fuss is about but hey - we all have our music preferences.

I went to lunch with a bunch of co-workers today that shared my opinion that he was over confident, difficult and kindof annoying. Thank goodness I’m not alone. I’ll encourage both of my children to follow their dreams but first I want to make darn sure they can support themselves if their dreams dont work out. If Josaih is truly serious about a career in music, I hope he gets his ged, some kind of job and a cheap place to live while he tries to make it.

  12. 12 Chicago-sally Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

Just off topic a bit: I got a look at Justin Guarini on MSNBC and wow! he has changed a LOT HE IS FINE! FINE!

  13. 13 Chicago-sally Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:27 pm

Well I’m NOT a psychologist, and I didn’t know about his mom dying of cancer….and maybe he’s trying to find some relief by acting the way he does and singing….but he doesn’t have the emotional makeup to go into show business. Show business would spit him out! Maybe in 3-4 years when he’s more mature he should try out. Go ahead and travel the country and the world (how’s he supporting himself?).

  14. 14 sue Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

Well according to Josiah on the Idolforums site which I better get the link or someone will say I am lying, he said he sold 1,000 copies of his single from his myspace at $10-$15 dollars a pop that is pretty darn good also Josiah is going to be on Ellen’s show on Tuesday and he gets to sing one of his original songs. That’s pretty impressive for someone that only made it to the top 50. Oh and other people have contacted him also. Josiah will definitely get a cd and hey maybe Ellen will get his a Winebago (spelling?). LOL, the kid is going to make more money than William Hung and Katphee and several others.. Hell I will buy his freakin cd if it comes out but I won’t buy just an EP… He is so lucky to have all the airtime on AI, he is the most talked about contestant so far.

  15. 15 Kirsten Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:39 pm

Wow Josiah is big news… peeps are talking about him in multiple threads.

See, this is why I think it might have been a mistake for TBTP to cut him. Josiah is generating a LOT of buzz. People are talking about him all over the place. Here, other boards, Access Hollywood, the news. Now he’s going to be on Ellen. That doesn’t happen to many auditioners and it probably won’t happen to the 4 that get booted next week.

Of course, at the rate Josiah is going (polarizing though he is), his buzz would probably end up eclipsing the show which is probably why TPTB are kind of glad they cut him.

I hope he gets his ged

He posted that he does have his GED (on VFTW).

It will be interesting to see what Josiah does with the current burst of fame. I wish him luck.

  16. 16 Lu Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:40 pm

I just read a few of Josiah’s mom’s blog entries. It is very sad. I guess I can see from her point of view that he needs to follow his dreams but the mom in me still can’t support a teenager dropping out of school and taking up residence in a car. The world is a dangerous place and this kid seems very vulnerable and way too fragile to try and make it in the cut throat music biz. I doubt that sobbing in front of music execs will get you a record deal.

I hope his mom can beat her cancer. The prognosis doesn’t sound good but her attitude is very positive. Dreams or not I can’t imagine taking off and leaving either one of my parents if they were that sick. That’s just me though and this is my last Josiah post.

Now someone tell me who is a good non pro to pull for this year!

  17. 17 sue Feb 14th, 2008 at 10:43 pm

    Posted by Josiah apparently,

“”ok, sorry it took me so long to get back. i just wanted to once again thank everyone for all of the support and understanding that there was a $hit ton of editing going on in the film room.

anyway, i’m looking forward to moving on past being the “homeless crying kid on american idol” lol, i’m sparking a bit of label interest, and my chances of signing with a major label are looking very good at this point. i had 100,000 plays today, and have sold over 1,000 albums, so thank you to all who have purchased the music and blown up my page, it definitely gets the attention of the label reps.

trust me, you guys have not seen the last of me, the road may change, but the destination stays the same, and i will never give up on my dreams.

feel free to ask any questions, i’ll try and keep up ( :

    you people are lovely heart.gif

OH the link to the post….

Ok, MJ, if I am not allow to post this then please delete it, thanks.

He answered many more questions there, I will stop talking about Josiah too…sorry guys.

  18. 18 poporange Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:10 pm

Josiah has a bit of an ego problem and I feel some of the crying was an act ,with the help of AI, to make people feel bad for him..It worked it is pathitic not the first living in a car how about with your sick mom kiddo thats where I would be sonny…I am glad he did not make it and should of left more gracefully because AI needed “feel bad for me boy”. Enjoy your 15 minutes because that all you deserve.

I do not know why people fell for it.

Sorry still do not thinks he is nuts maybe a teenage twirp. It is the first Ai contest I really do not care at all about one bit. I rather here about constantine or Katherine Mcphee.

  19. 19 Chicago-sally Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:16 pm

I think Josiah mediocre and unproven. 1000 is not a lot folks, but it pays the bills. And as for him being on Ellen — who hasn’t been on Ellen– as if being on Ellen is going to “jump start” his career? LOL. Honestly, a lot of show business has to do with personality. I absolutely love Leona Lewis after seeing her at Clive’s party. She is the sweetest person….

The exposure that AI gives even the most mediocre person (Josiah?) is immeasurable…but they still have to kneel at the gate of Clive Davis…honest….other that Clive’s company have you heard of any Idols signing with another MAJOR COMPANY? Like Warner or Universal or Def Jam? NO NO NO! How many will walk away with a Clive Davis contract and promo? Let’s face it, as much as we want to claw Clive’s face and bury him alive — HE IS THE MAN!

Hey, can anybody tell me if you think Justin Guarini is FINE! Whew!

  20. 20 pj Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:25 pm

ChiSally…the music industry is changing. I’m betting major labels will be defunct in 10 years, if not sooner. That is, unless they find a way to reinvent the business model.

And no, I don’t fine Justin Guarini attractive. Sorry.

  21. 21 poporange Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:29 pm

I appologize to chicago-salley she was totally right and I was totally wrong could not see through the smoke screen the kid is nuts..and what i stated above…Right about his cds too .

I am glad you met Leona she has a very good voice and yes Ellen has everyone and goes with which way the wind is shifting.I stopped watching her.

  22. 22 Kirsten Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:31 pm

other that Clive’s company have you heard of any Idols signing with another MAJOR COMPANY? Like Warner or Universal or Def Jam? NO NO NO!

Sundance and Sabrina signed with Universal (on a sub-label called Universal Mowtown).

Mandisa signed with Sparrow, a sub-label of EMI (one of the 4 majors)

George Huff signed with Word Entertainment a Christian label owned by Warner.

Jon Stevens signed with Maverick which is also a sub-label of Warner.

Josh Gracin, Bucky Covington and Phil Stacey all signed with Lyric Records which is a sub-label of Disney which had the highest selling record in 2006 and 2 of the top 5 (or was it 6?) of 2007.

So, yes, all the 3 of the other Majors (and at least two of the Major-minors…Curb being the other one) have signed Idols.

  23. 23 Lu Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:46 pm

Hey when is that duet cd of theirs coming out? Anyone know?

  24. 24 Kirsten Feb 14th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Hey when is that duet cd of theirs coming out? Anyone know?

Sadly, being signed is only part of the battle. Just ask Kristy Lee Cook (Arista Nashville…sub-label of Sony/BMG) and Michael Lee Johns (Maverick…sub-label of Warner).

Hey, those two both have three name names with Lee in the middle…time for a whacky conspiracy theory.

  25. 25 Lu Feb 15th, 2008 at 12:11 am

Do you think “Lee” may be some kind of code word?

  26. 26 Kelly Feb 15th, 2008 at 12:16 am

Anyone have a link for Joe’s Place? I read at IDF that he talked to Josiah about being on Ellen.

  27. 27 Kirsten Feb 15th, 2008 at 12:18 am

Do you think “Lee” may be some kind of code word?

Could be. Could be they are brother and sister. Lee is a code for who their real Dad is. NigEL LithgoE!!!!!

  28. 28 NOLA Feb 15th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

Guarini and fine are not 2 words I would use in the same sentence.
