According to Billy Dukes from Taste of Country, who conducts the Thursday morning interviews with American Idol in-house mentor Scott Borchetta, Trent will sing “Can’t Drink You Away” by Justin Timberlake and it’s the FIRST time Justin has “granted permission to use his song.”
The writer doesn’t indicate which category the song falls under. It’s the penultimate episode of American Idol on Thursday. The Top 4 will become 3 and perform 3 songs. A hometown dedication of their own choosing, Judges Choice and Scott Borchetta’s Choice. Also, clips from each of the four contestants’ Hometown Visits, which happened on Saturday, will be aired. The hometown packages are always good for a few tears. ETA: The format has NOT been confirmed yet. But last year, the Top 4 sang all three of their song choices.

UPDATE: Taste of Country has their weekly interview with Scott up early. They spoiled all of Scott’s picks for the Top 4. It looks like The entire Top 4 will perform before a singer is eliminated, just like last year.
American Idol finalist Trent Harmon will perform Justin Timberlake‘s lone country single “Drink You Away” during Thursday night’s episode (Fox, 8PM ET). It’s a first in many ways for the show, mentor Scott Borchetta says. “It’s the first time Justin ever cleared a song for the show, so pretty proud that he stepped up and did a solid, and Trent crushes that,” This week, contestants will perform one song he picked, one the judges pick and one inspired by his or her hometown. The field of four will be narrowed to three by the end of the broadcast.
