I have heard and seen every interview of Michael Johns. Where this self-entitlement is coming from I have never seen it. His interviews are hilarious and he is so humble. You can tell the interviewers just love him..he is just fun to talk to. And you can tell he hates it when they ask him the same stupid questions over and over again..but, he obliges them. Michael is a sweetheart and if you followed him you would know that already!

So, yes I was totally shocked at is elimination...I can think of seven that was way worse then him.

<blockquote> I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see it as self-entitlement when the guy has the talent if not the work ethic to try to earn any of the success he gets and back up the self-belief. And I also think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not alone in that observation.

Phil Stacey is far from being a douche and surprised and grateful for having made it as far as he has. He has himself said that there were others better than he that were cut back in Memphis. He called it right concerning David Cook winning the title and even predicting where the winner would audition (Omaha), and I think he is right here, too. The link below shows him and Melinda at a charter school in the Florida panhandle. mj, if it does not show up, can you please correct it? Thanks! Their next appearance with the tour is tonight in Panama City. Go, my 2 season 6 favorites. :biggrin_wp:

I don't even find Michael's elimination all that shocking. Sure, he was never in the bottom 3 prior to his boot ie Brooke, KLC and Syesha, but Brooke has had 3 good performances that has been ingrained in my memory before the top 12 (You're So Vain, LIAB and Let It Be) and because of that she had built an early strong fanbase. KLC had the worsters backing her up LOL and as for Syesha, I'm still scratching my head on how she had survived the bottom 3 week after week.

As for Michael, I've forgotten what songs he had sung before top 12 and the only performance that really stood out for me from him was IAWBIAR. And he was the first to perform during the week he got booted. So no... not surprised that he got booted.

As a fan of Michael's opinionated self, I'm all for standing by one's views;) But Phil ain't awesome--he's the annoying douche for being a jealous hater who thinks too highly of himself instead of giving props to this season's best contestants!!! I keed, I keed, of course.
<blockquote>It would be hilarious if someone they save this week gets eliminated in the double elimination anyway.</blockquote>
Haha. Which is why you're right--the save is dumb. I'm curious if fans of the other so-called 'shock boots' even like or appreciate this rule. Of course, Daughtry and JHud fans as big as those two are now, don't really care. But most MJ fans aren't also thinking, 'I wish they had this last year' or 'Thank god for the save, so what happened last season won't happen to us again' with their new favorite. Now I don't know about Tamyra fans. I still have no favorite this season so I'm also wondering how other fans would feel if the rule was used on someone they like. I'm sure there'd be short-term relief but how they feel about it would eventually depend on the later outcome of the show and the kind of post-AI success the contestant gets.

^^Yep and I am just telling you I don't see it the way you do and I stand by what I originally said... YMMV of course...

It would be hilarious if someone they save this week gets eliminated in the double elimination anyway. The save thing is just dumb. Even if they save my favorite Adam, I'd still think it's dumb.. if America didn't really vote him in for the win, then maybe he doesn't deserve it.

Oh, and Phil is awesome.

Er, was not trying to change your opinion, just sayin how I saw it but ohhkaaayyy, lol. Anyway about the save, I thought it's interesting that some fans think the judges are likely not gonna use it and that maybe the idea is to keep viewers wondering and tuning in if they will. Other than for the producers' benefit, I still don't get the merit of this rule change for the fans or contestants.

<blockquote>I see how you and a few others see him (more ofen than not, actually, heh) and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cool, really. But personally and at the risk of repeating myself as well, I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see it as self-entitlement when the guy has the talent if not the work ethic to try to earn any of the success he gets and back up the self-belief. And I also think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not alone in that observation. </blockquote>

Sure all that's good for you but I still reserve my opinion of him. Sorry, I'm just not a fan of this guy or his attitude... and I'm sure he will get along just fine even without my support.

It's good if he thinks he's good...he should. But he has this arrogant way about it... I think he's lacking graciousness, for the most part. Again that's just the way <i>I</i> see him.

I really liked him during the show too...he seemed like a nice, easygoing, cool guy. But as I saw more interviews of him after his boot, that POV quickly changed. He just really comes across as extremely self-entitled for me...and it looks like I'm not alone in that observation.

<blockquote>He wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t nearly as good as he apparently thought he was. </blockquote>

I don't see anything wrong with aspiring artists believing they're good; otherwise they're in the wrong business. And to be fair, this perceived 'attitude' of Michael serves him well so far (well except he's likely never gonna be liked by the same few who hate him in the first place LOL). If him thinking he's better than he actually was on the show seems to be making him one of the more hardworking ex-Idols I've seen, then it's cool. He's doing okay and I'm sure his ambition only helps him take charge of his career. I doubt he's been regularly booked for high-profile gigs just because he plays the shock boot card to the hilt. Besides, I've always liked that he seems to have struck the perfect balance in dealing with AI fans-- nice and not dismissive but never in the too-familiar, crossing-the-line way. The same can't be said for a lot of ex-Idols. So no, still not douchey for me at all.

To stay more on topic: I do agree that the save is not a good idea. It's also likely to create some backlash against the one saved, especially among fans of other contestants who won't benefit from it. But maybe that's precisely what AI wants-- more drama. Most contestants actually benefit more from a shock boot (as Michael did); only TPTB are probably tired of that storyline.

If him thinking he’s better than he actually was on the show seems to be making him one of the more hardworking ex-Idols I’ve seen, then it’s cool. He’s doing okay and I’m sure his ambition only helps him take charge of his career. I doubt he’s been regularly booked for high-profile gigs just because he plays the shock boot card to the hilt. Besides, I’ve always liked that he seems to have struck the perfect balance in dealing with AI fans– nice and not dismissive but never in the too-familiar, crossing-the-line way. The same can’t be said for a lot of ex-Idols. So no, still not douchey for me at all.

To stay more on topic: I do agree that the save is not a good idea. It’s also likely to create some backlash against the one saved, especially among fans of other contestants who won’t benefit from it. But maybe that’s precisely what AI wants– more drama. Most contestants actually benefit more from a shock boot (as Michael did); only TPTB are probably tired of that storyline.

<blockquote>LOL, Michael Johns is such an annoying douche.</blockquote>

That is an amazingly accurate statement. LOL.

I think that he stayed too long mainly because I never enjoyed any of his performances. Some were less bad than others. Most just sucked. Lots of bad song choices.

He wasn't nearly as good as he apparently thought he was. LOL.

I hope that the judges never use the "save" this season. I can't see that turning out well.

Well I was shocked about MJ getting the boot. Maybe he wasn't as good as he should've been on the show but it can't be helped that the hype was magnified by how everyone that stayed longer than he did progressively sucked (KLC, Brooke, Castro). I was also shocked that Carly and Syesha outlasted him because like KLC, they've been in the bottom several times. I think a lot of the press, like it or not, shared this view. So it can't be helped that he addresses the shock boot til now, especially when he had his face flash onscreen just recently, and he was likely pointedly asked about how the save would've made an impact on his case, clearly suggesting that he is a shock boot, in the interview. (Just as he's given those talking points in his previous post-AI media appearances, including the celebrities that became fans of his that interviewers also love bringing up.) Oh well but here we go again, I guess.

Funny but I think it's actually the recurring online debate among a handful of AI's hardcore followers on Michael's attitude merits more STFU--so for your own sake Michael, just say you sucked, the others were better, and nobody liked you! :lol_wp: Anyway, still like him, still love his voice.

<blockquote>I love how so many other people were quoted, but Michael gets all the ink.And we spell his name right, so I guess ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all gravy to him.</blockquote>
So it seems. I wouldn't waste any ink on the AI contestants I don't like. But that's just me LOL.

It is what it is.. Like it or not. AMERICAN IDOL is the one
who showed Michael Johns face when they announced the
new rule. The judges saved happened because of Michael Johns.

What a cool screen name - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“BootStarà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . That would be the name of that show someone mentioned days ago - all eliminated idols from all seasons competing..

LOL, thesheriff. If only I were clever enough to have thought of that. It really only refers to my obsession with cowboy boots! </blockquote>

BootStar, do you know the song, Charlie Dunn? It's the bestest cowboy boot song evah!

ETA: It's by Jerry Jeff Walker, here...I *hearthands* this song!

Jerry Jeff's version is now tragically MIA from youtube.

It was fun reading people's reaction to this interview. I for one was really shocked that Michael was voted off because he was hyped so heavily by Simon in particular in interviews. He had never been in the bottom three at any point before the night he left. Syesha, Brooke, and Kristy Lee had all been in and out of the bottom three when Michael was eliminated. I think it was shocking. That having been said, I was a little tired of his kind of smart alecky attitude by the time he was voted off. During the tour I liked him singing bluesy things better than the big rock anthems. For me, I was shocked each week that Jason was still there. LOL Not that I didn't like him. I just didn't think he was all that talented. It was more the shocking "save". I was also more shocked when Carly was voted off after one of her most animated performances. I was predicting a David, David, Carly top 3 with Brooke probably 4th. I could see Michael as making it to 5, Syesah to 6, Jason 7, and Kristy Lee to 8, Chikezie 9, and Ramielle 10. Actually I liked David Hernandez better than Ramielle. So for me the only place I got it right was 1 and 2. I didn't even get 11 and 12 right. I would have voted Amanda off 12th and Ramielle 11th. Very early on the three Davids were my three favorites.

Michael John's elimination was shocking in that coming out of Hollywood week, he was one of TCOs. While he underperformed during the semifinals, the week before he had a spectacular night. It was also shocking in that KLC remained with far less success on the stage and far less talent. Evidently he isn't the only one that thought it was shocking. Yes, he has a lofty sense of self, but it was also surprising giving his promise coming out of Hollywood week that he tanked so badly. I love how so many other people were quoted, but Michael gets all the ink. And we spell his name right, so I guess it's all gravy to him.

I don't like the judges save. I think it's stupid, because what is just going to happen is that instead of being booted in week 6 you'll be saved to be booted the next week. It's not that the fix is apparent, it's that is no save truly, and no fix. It's just a gimmick to make people vote more to overturn the will of the judges. It's not about preserving their chosen ones. It's just a gimmick.

<blockquote>But overall, it hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been an issue when he does press here in America. People donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care and Michael doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make a big deal about it either.</blockquote>

Well, I only watched his exit interviews on the morning talk show circuit here in the US. I didn't watch or hear any of his Australian interviews. And he definitely brought it up more than once in the interviews I heard. I specifically remember the name dropping because it kind of made me cringe. I like Michael but it rubbed me the wrong way. It was the first week postboot, so he was just getting started with the interviews. Obviously he dropped the habit, but it did bug me at the time.

Anyway, I'm over it ... lol ... and I look forward to hearing more from Michael.

ETA: For the record, I had no idea that anyone else had even picked up on it. I thought it was my own little pet peeve.

ETAA: I'm sorry for even going on about this. I like Michael. I won't say any more. Back to season 8! :)

Earth to Michael Johns....get over yourself. Your boot was not shocking. When you are sucky-mediocre for several weeks running, your chances of getting voted off are pretty good. Geeze.

I kind of wonder how this year's contestants feel about the judge's save. I think that there is probably only one person who will like it - the person that ends up being saved.

As someone that was the shock value and it would have helped I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really think its necessary,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Michael continues, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the drama of Idol isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it? That sometimes America gets it right. Sometimes they get it wrong. You gotta vote for the people you love.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ </blockquote>

To be fair to Michael he doesn't say that America got it wrong although would you really expect anyone in that situation to think they were sent home at the right time? Anyone in the top 12 should have the confidence that they could win. I agree with him that you have to vote for who you love and that's why I'll be voting for my little Anoop tonight. :smile1_tb:

What a cool screen name - <strong>"BootStar". </strong>That would be the name of that show someone mentioned days ago - all eliminated idols from all seasons competing..

The naming dropping was a big issue mainly while he was doing press in Australia. They seemed to be absolutely obsessed with it. In one interview he finally laughed and said it was getting ridiculous. It was the same issue when he did press in the Phillippines. I've listened to all of his interviews and have never heard him name drop unless the interviewer makes a big deal about it. And then there was another time when some morning show in Australia asked him if anyone famous was at his birthday party. But overall, it hasn't been an issue when he does press here in America. People don't care and Michael doesn't make a big deal about it either.

<blockquote>Philà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a hater. Probably still upset he was part of the duo elimination his year. And IMO, Adam deserves his praise.</blockquote>

<strong>adamandeva</strong>--- Wait, Phil's a hater because he brings up the obvious fact that Adam is a judges' favorite right now??

Isn't there a possibility that his opinion of Adam has NOTHING to do with his own duo elimination??

Also, if you had read Phil's blog over the past few weeks, you would see that he doesn't hate Adam or Gokey. Just saying.

<blockquote>I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mind that he talks about ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' like you say, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s his AI legacy, but he needs to come off likeable and graciousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬' he does himself no favors if he talks about it in a way that makes him seem bitter or entitled or a douchebag, haha.</blockquote>

Yeah ... as I said, the only part that bugged me was the namedropping. It was toolish. But admitting to being shocked, in and of itself, isn't obnoxious. As you said, it's all about how you do it.

eta: kbr, I also don't see anything wrong with his response within this article. He was asked; he answered. No harm in that.
