American Idol Summer Tour Rehearsals Begin This Week

Danny Gokey, Allison Iraheta and Megan Joy cut up at today’s rehearsal for the American Idols Live! summer tour, opening July 5, in Portland OR.

Tour Twitter Tidbits!

Drummer Aaron Spears twitters the tour schedule: Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Megan Joy and Danny Gokey were on today’s rehearsal schedule. Lil Rounds, Anoop Desai and Michael Sarver rehearsed yesterday.

Aaron twitters, “Both Adam and Alison were blazing today!!! This is going to be a great summer…Everyone is so cool…”

“At rehearsal, bord with Allison and Megan” twitters Danny.   Oops, a typo! Then, like, a minute later, “I don’t know what button I hit but it posted before I could fix my typo “bored” *salty*”   Tweets deleted! Replaced with this. Danny are you reading here? heh.

Danny also says he just finished filming for the American Idol Experience Disney World attraction. Each of the Top 5 will be featured in a video…

Matt Giraud twitters, “On tour I’m doing some bluesy rock to get everyone going and you know I’ve gotta rock that piano like you’ve never seen me do on the show”   He adds, “And who knows? Maybe I’ll take it waaaaay back to some stuff I did in Hollywood week..who knows? I definitely don’t. :) it’ll be a good show.”

Meanwhile, Scott MacIntyre twitters, “In meetings… No rehearsal for me today.”   And Anoop Desai is “Learning how to use my new Kindle.”

I’m so excited about the tour! SO glad I got tickets :-) I can’t wait to hear what everyone is doing.

And I hope we get more candid moments of everyone rehearsing, joking around, etc. I still want Slezak at EW to pop up on tour to hang out with Kradison a little, give us some candid moments…you listening, Slezak?

  • Mary102:

I must be a lone soul in here who is excited to see every single one of them at the concert. Ah well, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just easily pleased.

You’re not alone :-) This will be the 3rd one I’ve gone to, and I’ve always had fun. The thing is, even though I usually go just for one fav, and there are always some performers that I could do without, by the time the show comes around, I just enjoy the whole thing. It doesn’t completely feel like the show, because you get full songs, no judging, no nerves or competition.

Everyone sounds good (even the weaker singers – soung mixing is a wonderful thing), and I generally just have a good time. Last year, for instance, I could hardly care less for people like Brooke, Jason, Kristy Lee, etc. when they were on the show, but I still had a good time listening to them live (Brooke on the piano was very good, and Jason sounded good too). It’s also just cool to see them in person after watching them on tv :-)

If I had to say who I was really excited about seeing, though, it would be:

Most Excited: Adam (goes without saying for me – he’s really the only reason I got tix in the first place) – and I’m excited for his outfits too :wink_wp:

    Very Excited: Allison, Kris

Pretty Excited: Danny, Matt, Anoop, Lil

Should be ok (not bad, but not the most earth-shattering either): Sarver, Megan (this one could be interesting – she better caw for us :wink_wp:), Scott (just don’t sing the song you got kicked off on – eck!)

    Well now you do! ROFL.

  • Mary102:

Can anyone share a little bit about how the tour works, based on last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tour? Thanks! (Just curious; I know Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll find out soon, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m excited.)

I went for S5 and S7 (skipped S6 because I didn’t care for the contestants as much).

For S5: Everyone performed in elimination order (with a few switcheroos, like having 7 go before 8 or something like that), with a few duets sprinkled in to segue between acts (Chris and Elliot duet to introduce Elliot, Bucky and Kelly did a country duet.) Usually #s 10-6 or 5 get 2 to 3 songs each, then Chris and Elliot may have gotten 4 each, and the top 2 get 4, with an extra 5th for the winner (an encore).

For each of them they’ll perform something from the show (usually one of their greatest hits, Cook did Billy Jean last year) and some new stuff (Paris Bennet did Crazy in Love, which was cool). They ended the first half of the show plus the second half with a big group number (last year’s was Rihanna’s “Please Don’t Stop the Music” – cute, but yeah, a little cheesy.)

S7: Again, everyone in elimination order, but no duets (just the group number to end the first half and second half). The winner always sings the coronation song (poor Kris).

From what I understand, S6 mixed it up a bit more, with Blake ending the first half of the show, and a lot more group numbers/duets, etc. I’ve heard this year will be a bit more similar to that, and I think we’ve already had hints at a possible Adam/Allison Slow Ride reprise (yeah!) But I definitely hope they mainly stick to the order of elimination – it would be suicide to have Adam go before intermission, and I doubt that would happen.

I can see them mixing it up a bit, order wise (like put Matt and Anoop earlier, but then have them come back later too) just to keep things interesting. But then close with Adam and Kris.

    Hope that helps!

  • Mary102:

And just to put in my 2 cents about potential rude Adam fans – I can’t see that happening at all! I was way more pissed when Chris Daughtry got kicked off so early in S5, and I really really didn’t like Taylor, but there are never any boos, just way more cheering for the guys people love.

It’s interesting to see the concert venue, because everyone gets a good reception, from my experience – even the less popular contestants, it’s just an overall fun atmosphere. You will hear crazy loud cheers, though, for the favs.

Not to mention, there’s way to much Kradam love out there (and Kradison love) for that to get much in the way :-)

  • screamingisgood:

Bored person maybe, but not an artist. I’ve never known a TRUE artist that was bored. True artists have too much to explore, to learn about, to experience, to accomplish. They never seem to have enough time to express themselves, let alone have time to be sitting around lamenting their boredom. Bored people could just get up and DO. Express. Create. Learn. Idol is such an opportunity that most people would just drink in and be excited about, not lament oh, how bored they are. Artists and singers are not one in the same.

    My dream program…

Sarver, Megan do their bit. Scott does his and then is joined by Matt for a bit of Piano dueling. Lil (I’m sorry, it took me a minute to remember her name, I’m so very bad) sings her songs, Anoop finishes up the first half.

Second half…Matt wails on the piano and leads into Danny who gets to dance and sing (I know I am out of order). Then we have a back and forth concert with Allison, Adam, and Kris. Some duets and some solos and hopefully a trio thrown in…back and forth in no particular order.

Then Kris finishes up with his obligatory No Boundaries and then everyone comes out for a nice good bye and final song.

    I can dream, can’t I.

I like the sound of that! I wouldn’t be surprised if they did a little something like that. Maybe more of just Adam and Allison before bringing Kris out, so as not to overshadow Kris too much, but otherwise, sounds good to me :-)

Not sure if they’d switch Danny and Allison, and I guess I would feel bad for Danny if they did, but it would work a lot better for an Allison/Adam duet (not feeling the potential Danny/Allison duet AT ALL)

  • LisaE:

Tour tidbits. I didn’t know where else to post them. Sorry if already posted elsewhere!

From Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) Twitter: “Adam says the “Slow Ride” duet with Alison will be part of the Idol tour. Adam & Kris both picked Alison as their fave Idol.”

Also, Anoop said the following in his Comcast chat:

There aren’t a ton of group numbers, so you’re definitely going to see a lot of solo time from your favorite, which I think it really cool because you’re not buying a group CD when we’re through with this. You want to see the person you voted for and going to buy their CD afterward. But it’s going to be an amazing show.

  • AnnaMarieFields:

If there arent alot of group numbers how about more duets? Like Allison and Adam then Matt and Kris? Or Kris and Anoop?

  • Qcloud9:

I was glad to hear that each Idol will get a lot of solo time, because I am more interested in hearing them perform individually, because I want it that way (!) and since that’s what their CD will be, not group numbers or duets. I like some of the others a lot, but Anoop is by far my favorite and I wouldn’t be going to the concert if Anoop wasn’t going to have at least 3 solos. Anoop said in one interview he will be doing 2 songs from the show and one new song, so I’ll be there!

  • Mary102:

Thanks for the updates, Lisa! That sounds good :-) (Love the Kradam Allison shout-out BTW!) And Hooray for Slow Ride! EVERYONE loved that performance (even non-Adam fans I talked to afterwards)

I’m also kind of glad about more solo time. Duets are kind of cute (and it worked well in S5 having, say, the two country singers duet together). This year, Adison duets would be cool, but most of the other duets, not so much. Except maybe a Kris/Matt duet – especially if they were also jamming on their instruments together – that could be really cool!

And the group numbers are always one of the weaker bits, imo. A little too cheesy, like the group numbers from the results shows.

  • Grammie Kari:

Qcloud9, the budget is tight, so please be sure to put your review up here. I am so curious what songs Anoop will song!

Danny also says he just finished filming for the American Idol Experience Disney World attraction. Each of the Top 5 will be featured in a videoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Now, here is one example of how Anoop is being cheated. He was in the TOP 5 until the Judges Save was used. Not fair at all.
