Phoenix, AZ will be the first audition stop when American Idol premiers next Tuesday, January 13 on FOX at 8 pm ET.
Next stop, will be Kansas City on Wednesday January 14…
I’m especially curious to see how new judge Kara DioGuardi fits in with the old gang, Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.
Update: New Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi, tells the Associated Press that she’s impressed by the male talent:
DioGuardi said she spotted some uniquely talented performers during tryouts, especially among the men. But the pressure is on them to keep improving or they’ll leave the door open for an underdog.
“They may have been great at the beginning but as the season goes on they have to keep upping it,” she said.

Dear MJ, we are in January lol… ;D
In Latin America Sony Enteteirment Television is promoting this season American Idol as the “The Biggest Battle of The Egos” Is premearing January 17th…
The first show is on Feb 13th? My bday? LOL
We need a DDay “counter”. LOL
This is next week!!! SCREAM!!!
JAN 13th not Feb 13th…Oh crap that means my bday isn’t on a Tuesday but a Friday. I’m staying in bed that day.
I’m excited! I just hope this season isn’t a big let down.
I have a favorite and he is a guy but he won’t win I bet.
Ooops. Maybe I’m really not ready for it yet…
What will FOX do on January 20th with the inauguration ceremonies being held the same night? :bigsurprise_ee:
My channel will be watching AI and if they cancel AI ..I’ll be very upset.
AI goes to an hour on January 20th according to TVGuide.com’s listings. Fringe comes back with a new episode in the 9:00 hour.
Wow that’s next week. I can’t believe I’m this excited after ruminating about not watching the show anymore. I seriously doubt I have the time to become this invested again, but I also seriously doubt it will happen as it took 7 seasons for me to even vote, let alone scour the internets hourly for a crumb. I don’t know if I’ll vote again, but I’ll at least start the season excitedly.
I don’t have a favorite yet, and won’t for a few weeks. There will (hopefully) be those who pique my interest with their auditions, but there was at least one who IMO peaked at his audition last season and by the time he gave another great performance, it was too late…nobody cared anymore.
Oh, man, I had forgotten that Kansas City was one of the audition cities. We are so getting some DC focus this week.
You know, I’ve been thinking. Simon says the guys are much stronger this year. And now they’re switching back to the old semi-finals format which elimates the even 6 guys/6 girls Top 12.
I think they decided to do that so they could put more guys in the Top 12 if they have more male faves. It wouldn’t be the first time there is an uneven gender balance. In Season 3 there were 8 women and 4 guys.
Yay! Kansas City next week! :thumbup_tb:
