American Idol Tour Press Day – “Don’t Stop Believing”

From the LA Times Idoltracker

The Top 10 sing “Don’t Stop Believing” for the press during today’s American Idol summer tour press conference.

The group song, with Matt Giraud and Scott MacIntyre on piano will serve as the concert’s final number.

Can’t wait for the tour!

PS: It’s just a rehearsal. I’m not expecting much at this point. It’s a little rough, but they’ll get it together by the tour.

Here’s a brief article with quotes from Kris, Adam and Allison (along with a video showing Adam talking about how he’s going to do his Bowie medley on tour)

I thought it was cute and loved that Anoop was easy to see. Needs work but overall pretty good. The Lil, Megan, and Adam seemed most comfortable with the high notes but thought some of the others did pretty well with it. I’d rather have seen one of the group numbers they did well on the show though.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I just loved hearing this! I have been a fan of only 4 or 5 of them, but I enjoyed each and every voice I heard, even if they weren’t all spot on. I was most surprised that Lil sounded so good. Wow! It’s the first time I could understand why the judges loved her so much.

It was rough, sure, but in parts they sounded great together. And it was fun! It’s the first time I remember getting to rehearshal video. They’ll have it down pat by tour time, I bet. I’m getting excited!

    Thanks for posting this, MJ.

Adam did sound really good…of course he had the big noticable glory notes. Lil and Anoop sounded really good to me too.

I thought Danny sounded good in the first part, but I think he is trying not to strain his voice. My sister commented that Danny’s voice sounded hoarse when she watched and he did tweet just the other day about being hoarse. In the duet with Allison, his part needed to “go up” more, but he kept it lower, which didn’t sound right. But yeah, he said he’s hoarse.

Lol at Anoop laughing at EVERYBODY….a little immature, but funny.

Clearly still in rehearsal mode…that’s OK, they gotta start somewhere. I wasn’t crazy about the vocals from Scott, Matt, or (sadly) Kris. Anoop was very easy on the ears/eyes. I was shocked that I actually enjoyed Megan’s singing…maybe she will be good on tour. You never know, I think there are songs out there that could fit her voice. I liked Allison’s voice, but I still couldn’t understand a darn word she sang.

The thing is, even though some voices sound noticeably weaker in a setting like this, everyone always sounds MUCH better on the tour – even people I didn’t think much of during the show. They definitely work the sound system to have everyone sounding at their best and loudest. So even the weaker singers will be ok.

That said, Adam, live, at full-blast, is going to be pretty much in a league of his own singing a song like this :-) It just works completely to his strengths.

As usual we can’t hear Allison. I don’t think I cld ever make out the words to any of her songs.

Hopefully that will change once she gets her braces out.

They need to give Kris his original part back ASAP!

I thought this was quite good, especially for a random rehearsal. No one gives 100% during a rehearsal, especially when they have 2 weeks before the first show even begins. It will sound awesome on stage, which makes me very jealous that I’m not going, haha.

One more thing, and not to stir up dust, but: Of course Adam sounds awesome singing this. It was written to go with Steve Perry’s voice! There’s no way he could sound bad on it, haha.

  • SpenserJ:

P.S. I always hated Journey and Steve Perry. I just wanted to say that one more time. :-)

Steve’s still on my list of people I want to punch in the face.

So wow – that rehearsal footage was a little surprising to me for 2 reasons: 1. Scott’s an even worse singer than I originally thought – which I didn’t think was possible and 2. I thought Lil sounded great. That was kind of shocking.

  • lilbrusc102:

The harmonies were iffy in places, but I think they all, for the most part, sounded good in their solos. I was especially impressed by Lil, Megan and Michael, probably because my expectations for those 3 are never really that high, but they were sounding good here.

  • sabby_rina:

Wow this sounded great! Hearing Matt and Scott play this song on the piano makes me want to learn it now.

couldn’t take my eyes off of adam. he’s so gorgeous. his posture is to die for, always straight back and squared shoulders, he enjoys the music , gives it his full attention whether it’s a rehersal, recording,or interview, and he’s wearing his “whole lotta love” jacket! gotta love him. and, just another comment, he can sing rings around anyone else. who can hit those notes? ADAM LAMBERT CAN.

  • Ptnyc34:

I hope the musical director locks Scott, Matt, Kris and Danny in the rehearsal room from now until the tour starts so they get their voices ironed out. I’m sorry, but they should be embarrassed. Even Megan and Sarver sounded pretty decent.
