American Idol Tour Spoilers Plus Adam Lambert and Kris Allen Reflect on Michael Jackson
More from yesterday’s American Idol tour press day.
In this Rolling Stone article, Anoop Desai reveals he’ll perform Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” on tour. Kris Allen’s set will include à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hey Jude,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heartlessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Boundaries.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Adam Lambert will perform Muse (“Starlight”) and Bowie’s “Life on Mars”, “
Fame” and “Let’s Dance.”
Megan Joy will sing Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on their Own”, Matt Giraud will perform the crowd favorite, “Georgia on My Mind” and Danny Gokey won’t reveal a song choice, but we know that his set includes Rascal Flatt’s “My Wish”.
Other spoilers we already know: Allison Iraheta will sing “Barracuda” and “Cry Baby” plus reprise her duet “Slow Ride” with Adam. And, for the big pointy-pose finish the Top 10 will perform “Don’t Stop Believing” with Matt and Scott MacIntyre on dueling pianos.
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“People want to see you do songs from the show, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nice to be able to throw in something that you want to do and really mold your time onstage,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ says Kris. Adam Lambert promises a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“post-apocalyptic-rocked-out-space-disco-funkà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ look to his outfits.
The choreography should be interesting, the kids are learning steps from tour choreographer JaQuel Knight–she has Beyoncà ©Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Single Ladiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ video on her list of credits.
After news of Michael Jackson’s death broke, E Online sat down with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Here are a few quotes from the interview:
From Kris, “He was the most influential musical person that I had in my life. On the artist side of things, everything that he did was just so right. Every album that he did, it hit you in a way that just made you feel good. It made you feel him and feel his music. He was a genius, a complete genius.”
From Adam, “No one else sounds like him. Furthermore, the visual stuff he brought to the table was so groundbreaking and edgy and ahead of its time, in a way. There wasn’t anyone else really going out there like that. He defied sexuality and race in a way that no one else has. He wasn’t openly masculine or feminine. He was kind of somewhere in the middle in this androgynous space and at some point he was like, ‘Black or white, it doesn’t matter.’ There were a lot of things he straddled the line of, and I think that was really cool.”

I agree with everything Tess just said. 19 is not stupid. To not highlight the performer who is getting the most attention from fans & press alike would be dumb. Every article about the tour that I’ve read online has the vast majority of comments about going to the tour for Adam. And, if it’s not obvious, me too. So I’m naturally delighted that he’ll have 4 songs & a duet. I wish it were even more.
I’m sure Kris is a happy man right now. He’ll be doing the most solos on the tour, he has a recording contract & his future looks very bright.
I totally agree. If the guy who lost has pyro, the guy who won should have at least the same amount of pyro, probably more. A barrage of flash pots would go great with his folk ballads.
Adam fans online do seem to be apt to comment, shall we say, more enthusiastically, vis a vis kris fans. Not sure whether number of comments = number of fans.
Just for the record, here, I see a huge amount of comments about going to the concert to see Kris, online. Many more than I expected, because I’m so used to seeing the “I loooove Adam! Give me more Adam!” comments.
First of all, yes, Adam enjoys the outfits and stagey, pyro stuff, but he is an amazing, amazing singer.
Secondly, Adam stands out. It’s not something that has to make sense or seem fair… it’s not even something he can control. The outfits and high-energy performances are a part of who he is and who he wants to be. And these things were all a part of him throughout the whole competition — they should not surprise anyone at this point. During MJ week, the very first week on the big stage, Paula told Adam that he “marries fashion with music” and that everything he does is an extension of who he is, or words to that effect.
Adam is a performer in every sense of the word. If everyone else just wants to stand there quietly and sing, then it’s not Adam’s fault that he steals the focus.
I really hope those of us that love Michael Jackson for his music rise above those who want to only talk about the tragedy of his personal life and get caught up in the controversy of his death. Michael Jackson was a legend, a music icon, a genius and an international superstar.
To compare any aspect of the Idols (and that includes Adam) with MJ is absolutely delusional. None of these Idols have done anything yet other than come on a reality TV show. We don’t know if any of them will make it in the music industry.
As to the tour, I just assumed 5 thru 10 were getting 3 solos as in past AI tours. If 8 thru 10 get 2 and 5 thru 7 get 3, that is 15 numbers for the first half. With Allison getting 3, Danny 4, Adam 4 and Kris 5, plus Adam and Allison duet you get 17 in 2d half. I am also think there will be a group number in the 1st half and a group number in the 2d. Looks like 2d half may be a tad longer.
I don’t know. I’ve listened to Jackson’s Black or White back to back with Lambert’s studio version several times this week. Of course, it’s an unfair advantage to be covering the original and props to Jackson for the creativity of a great song, but Lambert sings circles around Jackson on that song.
MJ – do you go to see the show?? I would LOVE to hear MJ’s take on it afterward if she does see it!!
I wonder if they will change some of the sets to include Michael Jackson songs. I would love to hear Adam sing ‘EarthSong’ or ‘They Don’t Care About Us’.
RIP Michael.
It is worth repeating:
To compare any aspect of the Idols (yes I mean Adam too) with Michael Jackson is absolutely delusional as is any comparison with Elvis.
Both MJ and Elvis were HUGE superstars and the biggest selling artists of all time. I believe I read Elvis is the biggest seller, Beetles next, and Michael Jackson. And now that MJ is gone, watch the sales of his music go through the roof.
Gotta keep it real peeps.
I remember last year they had some fog enveloping D. Archuletta at one point, and maybe Brooke (?), and possibly others IDK, so special effects have been used before.
*****I totally agree. If the guy who lost has pyro, the guy who won should have at least the same amount of pyro, probably more. A barrage of flash pots would go great with his folk ballads.***
Should not have read this while eating, now my keyboard needs cleaning.
Also I doubt an idol concert will have pyro, the most he may get is colored strobe lights.

The sale have already skyrocket on itunes. And I agree no one can ever be Michael, he is/was a unique individual and an untouchable talent. With that being said, I still want to see Adam sing the songs I mention.
Yeah, but never underestimate the visual effect of color lights glinting off the big-bucks Idol tin foil stage set!
*****Media blitz: I have to be honest, I must live in a cave, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never really seen this media blitz about Adam everyone keeps mentioning. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch Fox news, though. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen any big Adam-oriented tabloid covers, and I actually have combed the newsstand to see any magazine covers of Adam or Kris, and I see none, not even the teen magazines (thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just Adam cover of RS, which I still see on the shelves even though the new one with the Jonas Bros. is also out. So much for the Adam issue supposedly à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“flyingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ off the shelves).****
I think a lot of that depends on where you live. Several newsstands and bookstores in the Downtown Boston area sold out of Adam/s RS cover. I have Adam and Kris on google alert, and Adam alerts were filling my inbox to capacity at one point, not so much now since the bigger news stories have been spoken about. And no I have not seen Adam on/in the tabloids which in my opinion is a good thing.
Kris does have the longest set (he has five solos, one very long one, to Adam’s four). He closes the show and has the headline billing according to American Idol.
Adam nor 19 can help if Adam got the cover of Rolling Stone. If they had asked Kris, he would have been on there, but RS was interested in Adam. If some news media focused on Adam instead of Kris, that again is no fault of 19. I’m sorry for Kris fans, but many people including the media are interested in Adam. He is very charismatic and his star is shining. 19 gave Kris the major promo opportunities (Leno, Ellen, etc.); Adam was invited by the media (20/20, Access Hollywood, etc.)

Absolutely. There is and ever will be only one Elvis and only one Michael Jackson. Their respective contributions to music and pop culture were not just good, they were truly extraordinary. Elvis has not been forgotten and today’s artists acknowledge MJ’s pioneering and enduring impact. Music lovers around the world will continue to appreciate Elvis and MJ in the decades to come.
I think Adam doing access hollywood and 20/20 was 19’s doing.I love how adam fans think adam is god that every wants him.Newsflash there both
charming and there both charismatic. And there both gonna be big.Just because
kris isnt shoving himself into the media doesnt mean people arent interested.
Nobody on AI will ever come to to elvis or MJ.I mean nobody ever even outside of idol.Thet were the king of pop and the king of rock and roll.To say kris or adam are going to be the MJ is very….funny.
Who is saying they are going to be the next MJ? Did I miss something?
:lol_tb:
Has visions of Adam carrying around his own hand held smoke machine in one hand and a little “sparkler” in the other to create his own special effects …lol
I would pay oogles of money to see this….C’mon Karen you need to twitter the suggestion to Adam, it would fit in so well with the basic cheese of the tour.
:rolleyes_tb:
lol .. don’t tempt me Tess. Perhaps I should suggest this hat with it’s own inbuild smoke machine? :laugh_tb:

*whispers* … I do realise that the smoke isn’t actually coming out of the hat …lol
Yup…many fans will be going to the tour to see their favs. For many it will be their last opportunity because that person will totally fade into oblivion once the tour is over. I know the feeling, too, it has happened to me. So sad, but so inevitable.
Ok, who is trying to rot Kris’ teeth??? (LOL) He just tweeted this:
Someone sent me the biggest basket of twizzlers…..oh no5 minutes ago from TwitterFon
Anoop is the reason I’m going to this show. I will enjoy seeing some of the others, but I wouldn’t be making the effort to go to the show just for them. I just don’t go to see every performer I like in concert. Anoop is one of those special people I really want to see perform live. I will go to Anoop’s own concerts in the future also.
RIP MJ – something I found on a new age site and I love it’s message:
“It really doesn’t matter how he passed. We will learn it was a combination of things, medication, exhaustion, stress and a life at the forefront. He spent essentially his whole life in an exalted fashion and that takes its toll.
It will be shown over time how he lived. He embraced humanity. He really was a loving father, a show business legend that will last for hundreds of years and a decent human being.
He was also a female energied man. Many parts of society distrusted that, especially the less “illuminated” parts. The planet is changing.
Female energied men will start to be embraced finally. Men will be respected for their nuturing, loving side rather than their dominance and abilty to win at all costs.
Perhaps the lesson is people come in all shapes and sizes and that we just accept people for who they actually are instead of what we want them to be.
That is a tough one but perhaps it is about time we start”
If true, this bodes well for my favorite AI contestant ever: Adam Lambert
