American Idol Tour Update!
The Idols arrived in Portland, OR yesterday to get ready for their first concert on the American Idols Live! summer tour, Sunday July 5.
The Idols told E! Online a little bit about each of their sets, (read more HERE)
Michael Sarver reveals that the performance order will go in the order of elimination–he’ll be opening the show. Megan Joy will wear a skin-tight pink dress, “I’m going to be the skanky one” she says. Scott MacIntyre describes his set, “along the lines of singer-songwriter, pop-rock, British pop and very acoustic rock.” Matt Giruad is singing “Georgia” for his fans, Anoop Desai says his performance of Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative” will be a lot cooler than it was on the show, Lil Rounds calls her set, “the party set,” Allison Iraheta is doing the rock thang, Danny Gokey looks forward to singing a longer version of Michael Jackson’s “PYT”, Adam Lambert is psyched about his custom-made “blue, metallic silver bomber jacket with tails and spikes and studs” and Kris Allen says he since he doesn’t go on til later, he’ll be watching everyone from the wings.
List of tour spoilers so far:
- Kris Allen: “Heartless”, “No Boundaries”, “Hey Jude”, “Ain’t No Sunshine”, possibly Matchbox 20’s “Bright Lights”
- Adam Lambert: “Mad World”, “Whole Lotta Love”, Muse’s “Starlight”, Bowie Medley: “Life on Mars”, “Fame” and “Let’s Dance”, “Slow Ride” (with Allison)
- Danny Gokey: “P.Y.T”, “My Wish”
- Allison Iraheta: “Cry Baby”, Heart’s “Barracuda”, “Slow Ride” (with Adam), a Pink song

If I missed any let me know, or I’m sure Matt Giraud will alert the twitterverse. Heh.

I am really confused the continuous stream of Kris vs. Adam facts — what is the point? Kris won. Why all the facts to prove Kris is really better than Adam?
Kris and Adam are both going to do well. They will both be great in concert. I’m looking forward to seeing both of them.
Thanks for that link! The same youtube poster has several Tour interviews by other Idols that I’d not seen before. Interesting and fun stuff. Thanks again.
I too shudder at the thought of using NB as a popularity gauge. LOL
While it is information, that’s true, when the final paragraph reads: “But currently it’s now 11-10 countries to Kris yay! I also checked the popularity bars and Kris has the most sales overall for ALL countries combined together!” I’d say it’s being gathered and presented competitively as well.
Not complaining, just saying…
FWIW, I remember last year feeling as though Archie was being treated as a co-winner. As a Cook fan, I wasn’t thrilled. Now, people say that Adam is being treated as a co-winner, and as an Adam fan, I’m fine with it. Go figure.
:innocent1_tb:
Just ‘lately’? I thought it started at semi-final and continued through the whole season haha…I think everyone is entitled to his own opinion on any piece of info w/o worrying about being ’sent’ to anywhere.
I don’t believe Adam said that to Kris’s mom about being sure they would be the last two standing. I could see Adam saying good things about Kris getting through to the end, but not being so sure of himself; it always looked like Adam was surprised to get through and that he knew his appeal was not for everybody. Half-way through the competition?? Danny was still popular and I’m sure no one, including Adam, would have ever discounted that. I don’t like a lot of things about Danny, but there’s no denying that guy’s voice or the way the judges fawned and the audience reaction to Danny at that point (really he was a contender until the end). The only way this could be true was if Adam was joking around (“freak” implies something negative and off-putting to some, so maybe it was a joke).
If Kris is gaining popularity internationally these days, congrats to him. I see this as “catching up.” Adam has had international popularity all along. If you go to BestArts, they do statistics on this. Good for both of them. We’ll see who has longevity and album sales, etc., but I expect success for both. Adam is a media magnet and will likely be HUGE, as Kris himself has said he expects Adam to be a “bigger” star. If Kris doesn’t begrudge Adam that, why should anyone else? Agree with others who’ve said they’re being treated like “co-winners” similar to Davids last year. I was a Cook fan and had no problem with that last year and of course am fine about it this year.
I remember seeing a world chart sorta thing after finale and Kris’ NB and Heartless charted much higher for 2-3 weeks that they stayed in the chart. Kris can sell internationally given the right promotion.
The “international superstar” label that rca and 19e gave Adam is just a label now. Nothing is proved yet whether Adam can really do that. I got the feeling that it is a way to distant Adam from “American” idol, also partly, he is more easily embraced in Europe than US market.
this
and i remember that RCA and 19e never gave Adam that “international superstar label”, did i miss something here? Partly i just think he has the potential to be, but about kris to sell internationally? Nah, i don’t think so; for me he is too much pop, nothing really impressive.
Why isn’t it a popularity meter? If you can sell that song, you must be popular.
I had a class in college…many moons ago…concerning advertising, marketing, etc. I remember my professor said that the one thing that will hook a consumer is “numbers” and they are the easiest thing to manipulate to a seller’s advantage. No matter how unbiased someone says they are, personal filters will always play a part.
If we are number freaks we choose data that will usually tip the scales toward the “end” result that we, consciously or sub-consciously, desire.
Personally, I think the tour sets have been set-up by AI to be as “fair” as possible, but the bottom line is that the concert be as close to a sell-out as possible. The AI marketers are very aware of how to “sell” something and they will use what ever market research they can find and will promote their product based on that research. We, as individual consumers, may have our personal problems with the validity of their decisions but they have to make the decisions based on success for their brand.
If one contestant is being highlighted over another for marketing purposes that is strictly a “business” decision. And the contestants and their “sometimes over-zealous fans” better learn to live with it, because that is how the process works. In the entertainment industry and those that follow it, just like in sports, there is no place for the faint of heart or the person who believes that the world should run on fairness.
because that song is suck
Seeing as neither version of NB has been given any publicity or marketing internationally (well certainly not here in the UK) I don’t really read too much into international sales at the moment, obviously it will just be people outside of the US who have had some interest in AI who are buying the single at the moment … the real test for international popularity will be when the actual albums come out and receive some sort of publicity outside of the AI bubble.
So saying this I think the “competition” between Adam and Kris post Idol is getting a bit silly .. especially with all of this “hoopla” over number of songs being sung on tour.
Like other posters have said I very much doubt that Adam and Kris feel that they are in competition to prove anything, they’re both completely different types of artists and there’s plenty of room for both of them to achieve all they can in the music industry .. they’ll both no doubt be going down different routes musically so whilst there will always be some sort of chart battle between artists to sell as many records as possible I don’t see them as being in competition. Some people will prefer Kris, some will prefer Adam, some will like both .. hopefully they’ll both sell enough to get a good career in the music business.
I said earlier that I didn’t believe that Adam actually said this. Now I see that it was originally posted at Gossip Candy. It’s confusing though trying to figure out who said what. The writer quotes a poster who quotes a friend of Kris’s mother, etc. Like whisper down the alley. Adam certainly didn’t say it in those words as he never uses bad grammar (as I said before).
This isn’t scientific, but I know Kris has a large number of international fans, from searching him on twitter, and from his website.
I don’t know, but I think if you feel Kris won AI because he’s popular, it makes sense he’s popular in places other that just the US. Why wouldn’t he be? But if you think he won for “other reasons,” as some people do, you might have trouble accepting that he’s actually popular at all, anywhere, even here.
Myself, I’m really not surprised he’s doing well internationally. What appeals to Americans often appeals internationally. And for some reason NB seems to be doing better internationally than here.
By the way, I did see a Neilsen Soundscan listing a week or two ago that showed Kris’s NB at #19 on the Hot Adult Contemporary chart for US radio play (not sales). Just ahead of David Cook’s new single, which was #20. That’s not bad.
I do like the idea of ending with some of Adam’s big notes on Journey – that would be a GREAT way to end the show! (Rehearsals sounded great from him).
I think it would be awesome if Adam and Kris switched clothes! Adam can already rock the plaid (as in the Top 13 home footage), but seeing him in just a white shirt and jeans – I can see him making that incredibly hot!
And Kris with feathers, studs, leather jackets! That would be an awesome combination! A little scary, but really funny.
Interest in Kris has been piqued in other countries because he won. That is natural. It would be very surprising if Kris’s version of “No Boundaries”wasn’t ahead as it’s winner’s song and he has been promoting it. I’ve seen an advert for Kris’ version on the home page of UK itunes, and there has been no publicity for Adam’s at all. I’m surprised it even outsold Kris’s in 10 countries. Plus, Adam’s “Season 8 Favorite Performances” album has been outselling Kris’s in USA and Canada. That’s pretty good going for a runner-up.
“I do like the idea of ending with some of Adam’s big notes on Journey – that would be a GREAT way to end the show! (Rehearsals sounded great from him).”
Hey, speaking of unfair….if Adam is given the final glory note in the finale Don’t Stop Believing, OMG, that means he’s singing “last” in the concert!! Maybe they need to give those crazy high notes to Kris to sing. Oh no, we’ll have to set up camp on the grassy knoll, lol.
Kidding, kidding.
Oh my. I am oh so excited to see my hero on august 28th. I am however a wee bit afraid of my own inner fantard. I sometimes omit high pitched girly squeals and jump up and down when Adam sings. I am sure to scare those inthe seats around me. And uhhhhhi don’t care that I live in milwuakee… Danny is gonna have to be my pee break. Saw him live at summerfest grounds fir his homecoming…. NOT PRETTY…
Other countries can see Idol on TV. Interest in him would probably be based on people having seen him on the show. Even if he didn’t win. Acc. to this, AI was seen in 154 countries in 2006. Kris has fans in all the countries where Idol is seen, I’m sure. I didn’t become interested in him because he won, I was already interested, and, I’m sure, so were the international fans.
I do have to say that as a Cook/Allen fan Archie’s treatment wasn’t nearly what Adam’s is. I just wanted to offer a different perspective here. I’m not complaining, just stating what I see.
Good point of perspective, cookcricket. I suppose now we need to hear from both an Archie/Adam and an Archie/Allen fan to paint a complete canvas. LOL j/k
I’d love to see/hear their perspectives. The painting could be entitled CALA. lol also joking.
I kind of felt the same way about last year. I always considered Archie would win, and was rather shocked when Cook won, but I knew Archie had TONS of fans (especially judging from the TV reactions during the eps). The crowd response was huge for both, maybe slightly bigger for Archie, and song-wise, though Archie had 4 and Cook had 5, it did feel a bit like they wanted to give Archie a lot of time on stage too due to his popularity.
This time, as an Adam fan, I’m (mostly) fine with the treatment of both. I understand as the “non-winner” Adam shouldn’t overshadow Kris by either getting the same # songs or special treatment, but I also think TPTB know Adam is a big draw, particularly for a live concert, and so are giving him some more attention than they might otherwise.
On tour, I would say the fan reaction for Archie and Cook were about the same. It’s just that you can tell who their fans were from the screams.. haha.. Archie’s fans were more high pitched let’s just say…
When I read comments here, sometimes I laugh a lot seeing how a lot of people view things. One thing we should remember is that, people who go and watch the idol show live are not the only ones who vote. Secondly, this online fans fever cannot be used as a yardstick to measure the popularity of these guys. A lot of people are too busy to sit by the pc to post comments or vote for some online polls. Meanwhile, a lot of these busy people will buy their albums once it comes out. That is why most of the times we end up being dissappointed with the final results. We base the possibility of a contestant winning on the applause from the audience which is very deceptive. finally no one even knows who was getting the most votes throughout the season.
I hate coming here any more. I’m a Kris fan and I’m really excited about his set. I could go to the concert here in LA, but I just don’t want to be around the type of people I’ve ’seen’ on line.
