LOL The cookchuleta moment….
LOL LOL at Archucook!! hahaha!
Guys, I was there, but the recap I just wrote isn’t really positive at all. Let me tell y’all that I was sitting in a suite, so I was very detached and distant from the show to begin with, and that colored my impressions. The suite was fabulous - stocked bar and refrigerator, plush seats, private bathroom, but it meant that people were talking and visiting in the background, walking around the room, so that it might as well have been someone’s living room with a loud home theatre in the background. I haven’t decided whether to post the recap. I was disappointed, but I can’t say if it’s because I was not able to really experience the show or not. The kids do seem burnt out, but overall, their stage presence is impressive.
Please post your recap. I prefer an honest personal account to a totally positive review any day. This crew is pretty close to entering the real world and that’s pretty tough. So go for it.
Hey Rita205, I heard that Syesha has some sort of breakdown at the end of her set and ended up lying on the floor in tears. Can you tell us what happened to her? Sounds kinda strange.
Wow…that sounds terrible about Syesha! I sure hope she is okay and that we’ll be informed as to what happened soon.
As to Syesha, I didn’t think of it as a breakdown, but chalked it up to being tired and emotional, the emotions being over the top, probably from being overly tired. Her set was energetic, very on-target with the performance aspect, and I thought she sounded really good. On that last song, I didn’t really see anything happening until she rose up from the stage. At the end of the song, she had gone into the middle of the extension area of the stage and sank to her knees, and put her face down toward the floor. Honestly, at first I thought it was just a dramatic flourish to the song. Then she rose, and was actually crying - kind of sobbed a little - as she finished. The camera did a close up of her and tears were streaming. She apologized for hitting the last notes wrong, and apologized for crying, saying “that wasn’t supposed to have happened”. I actually was touched, and the crowd was, too. I didn’t really look at it as a breakdown - ok, maybe a little - but it wasn’t like she had to be escorted off stage or anything.
I just had a funny thought. Maybe she needs to perfect this ending to her stage show; she can start doing an exit a la James Brown, and make it her own.
There’s a little something about the Syesha “moment” in the Shreveport Times review of the show, in the Idol Headlines For 8/27/08 thread.
Rita, please do post your recap. Sounds like you have an interesting take on the show, if a bit scary …..
Hi Rita205, I agree post your review! I do appreciate that you’ve qualified that it could have been from being removed from the concert in the suite. My hubby talked about how cool it would be to be in one of the suites when we went to our concert, but even then I thought it would be a totally different experience.
I do want to read your honest impressions though!
amy123, where did you hear this about Syesha? Poor girl.:( I hope she’s okay.
I saw it on the American Idol website-someone mentioned it briefly in the tour forum. It sounds like it wasn’t as bad as originally thought from what Rita said. I guess she’s just very tired and got emotional at the end. I’m sure she’s fine.
rita205, I was in a suite too at the Dallas show. I was determined not to let that distance me from them though! It was a great view, the suite was NOT crowded and noisy either, and I almost felt like I could reach out and touch them on the stage. I gave up some floor seats about 3 sections back for the comfy suite. I do totally understand how it could NOT be a great concert going experience from there though. I think the big thing was that the suite was not full of distracting people for me! So post your recap…. OH and LOVE the Cookchuleta moment at the end of the Mavid Dance number oh I mean Please Don’t Stop the Music! OMG too funny!
OMG bwhahaha It’s official, I now love ArchuCook more than Mavid. Watching Archie become corrupted is way too entertainung.
I don’t see Cookchuleta as Archie being corrupted. I see it as learning to be a younger brother with a mischievous older brother. Amusing for the audience. Seems pretty healthy for DA as a performer and as a person.
I hope that Rita posts her recap. Different perspectives = good.
ARGH! I need to work!
kathrynTX, I did notice that some of the suites were much closer to the stage, and that would have made a big difference. Ours was pretty far back. If it had been a football field, we would have been on about the 35 yard line on the opposite end of the field from where the ball was. Even the view of the screen was somewhat obscured from where we were. Perfect seats for a sporting event, not so much for a concert.
I can’t post the recap I originally wrote, b/c I left it on my home computer in a Word file. I’ll try to add some of my thoughts here and there (in between work activities, ok?).
One comment: Kristy Lee Cook is an idiot. If she’s going to strive to reach the patriotic country music fan, she blew a big chance last night. Bossier City is home to Barksdale Air Force Base, a large, historic military facility, where young men and women, officers and enlisted members of the Air Force are working, living, and being deployed overseas every single day. The arena where the show was held is practically at the back door of the base property! Plus, this area is country music heaven. So why couldn’t she have had some clue as to where she was when introducing and performing her signature song “God Bless the USA”? Other than some generic shout-out to men and women serving our country, or some such comment, she didn’t acknowledge where she was or the fact that “our troops” were among those sitting in the audience! Am I asking too much? As someone up thread pointed out, these “kids” are pretty close to entering the real world.
Ah this was cute, from a concert review on idf:
‘cook actually said during the show that david still had a cold so we should applaud him for sounding so amazing.’
In slight defense of KLC, these kids are in and out of the cities so fast that it’s doubtful they have much of a chance to research the places they are going or even get much of a flavor for the cities. So unless the Troops in the audience were completely visible to her, I can’t fault KLC too much for not knowing the significance as related to the city she’s in. A city she’s been in for less than 24 hours and most of that time was spent in the hotel and/or venue.
If anything, I would put it at the fault of someone on the Idol crew who should be noting the Idols of specific things like this as it pertains to their sets. People that aren’t spending most of their waking hours doing Meet & Greets and press and the like.
Good points, brie200. Since the performers are goodwill ambassadors for the show, it’s entirely reasonable to expect the crew or producers to school them on the cities they are visiting. Hey, I’m a jaded 53 year old veteran concert goer, and even I get a kick out of hearing the shout-outs to the town or place. Some performers place more stock in the importance of doing this than others, though. My thoughts were that the Idols all said that they looked forward to the tour as a way to see all the country, and that they were eager to experience the different cities, I kind of expected them to familiarize themselves with where they are going. But then, they have had a grueling schedule this summer, so that may be an unrealistic expectation for anyone in their shoes!
Still, she missed an opportunity. She’ll need to pay attention to these sort of things, especially with country music fans.
‘cook actually said during the show that david still had a cold so we should applaud him for sounding so amazing.’
Thanks frogcooke! Archie is amazing!
Should lay to rest any lingering questions about his mettle and ability to deliver in less than ideal situations……. the “big sister” in me wants to tell him to REST, MAKE SURE YOU’RE EATING RIGHT, etc…. hahahaha…
GET WELL DAVID! HOPE YOU’RE ALREADY BEGINNING TO TURN THE CORNER
I like cookchuleta, rather than archucook, but I’ll take either!
Please post your recap if you get a chance, rita - I’d love to read it - nothing wrong with an honest opinion.
LOL at Cookchuleta - too cute.
Syesha’s dramatics = Zzzzzzzzzzz, IMO. Just don’t find her genuine at all.
Cookchuleta FTW!
It was so hilarious the way Archie just hit him with those flowers. That is beginning to become my favorite part too.
I hope Archie feels better soon. They have all been through the ringer on this tour. As much as I’m sure they all hate to be separated from each other once the tour ends, it will be good for the ones that can to get a nice long rest because they will need it!
Darchie!
Props to Syesha for connecting with the song and its meaning. I’ve had it happen to me several times on stage, and that’s what musicians do. She didn’t need to appologize for feeling it!
b
rita205,
They sure have had a grueling schedule, so familiarizing themselves with each city is just an added ‘to do’ on their list. If you caught Larry King Live, Brooke White gave a timeline account of their daily routine and prefaced it with, ‘you can’t really tell where the day starts and ends’ (not a direct quote). They are slammed!!!!! And still manage to do the show every night. Sure, Kristi missed an opportunity. I would put that on her manager - if she has one, which since she’s signed, she should have one. That’s the person responsible for marketing and ’selling’ the idols. A bit more emphatic recognition of the troops and Boosier would have solidified that part of the country as a wide fan base for her. She’s new though, she’s learning, as are they all. I think Cook has a strong handle on marketing/selling himself. He’s been doing this a while, and I gather he’s got a strong business sense and knows how to capitalize with charisma. It’s been very interseting to see how they each are footing themselves on this launching pad into their careers. Makes for a great discussion!

Guys, I just wanted to post the url to The Times front page again:
http://shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/frontpage
On the right hand side is a link to the staff photos from the show. Some really good ones!
I’ll write more a little later.
Ok, folks, here’s what I wrote this morning and edited just a little while ago, for what it’s worth.
I was there, but I don’t have a play-by-play recap. Let me say at the outset that I think my impressions of the show are skewed by the fact of where I was sitting. I went with a friend who works for a liquor distributorship. The company has a suite at the arena, and we had tickets to sit in the suite. It was fabulous - private box seat, stocked refrigerator, private bathroom, theater plush seats. However, it meant that we were very far away from the stage, up at the top of the arena, and it made me feel quite detached from the show. There were about 6 other people there, milling around, visiting with each other, so it was more like watching a show from your living room than being at a live concert.
Plus, I couldn’t really hear the crowd reaction to the performances. Yes, I could tell that people were cheering, and were cheering louder for some (Archie, Jason, Cook) than others (Ramiele), but I couldn’t really, really tell what it was like down there.
The kids seemed burnt out, at least I hope that’s the case, otherwise, they seemed detached, too. I really don’t have impressions of every single one. I already wrote about Syesha and KLC. I agree with everyone who has written about Carly and Brooke - they seemed genuinely happy to be on stage, and interacted more with the crowd than, really, anyone else (including Cook!). Brooke mentioned meeting the fans, saying that they “wrapped them in beads!” (Mardi Gras beads). Carly is just happy to be on stage, she has lost that glaring, trying-too-hard look. And she is in such good shape! On “Crazy on You”, she kept doing squats down to the ground and coming right up! I would have been on my knees!
Michael Johns was not my favorite. I appreciate his talent, but there was always something about him that I didn’t warm up to. He mentioned meeting the fans, and said it was hot out there (!) They’ve been to Florida, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston - it’s no hotter here than anywhere else! C’mon, Michael, any other impressions?
Jason, Archie. I was surprised that Archie has come up with some dance moves during his “Beautiful Girls” portion of “Stand By Me”. Not bad. He was very, very good, and not nearly as annoying to me as months ago. And Jason was poised and very sure of himself. When he began singing “Crazy”, his guitar was not connected. I was thinking to myself how weird it sounded, but his singing was good. A tech ran out and plugged him in and he didn’t miss a beat – he said “Oh, there it is!”, and kept on. Smooth move. But, neither he nor Archie had anything to say except that they were glad to be there, thanks to the fans.
Cook - I hope he’s just tired, otherwise he appeared very disengaged from the crowd. His set was good. Nothing special – Really! His intro to “Time of My Life” was something about thanking the crowd for the song. No bantering with the crowd, except to say that he’s never been to Louisiana, he knows it’s the home of LSU Tigers, he has something in common because he’s from Missouri, which has the Missouri State Tigers. (a few boos at that, a loud cheer at LSU - a sure thing anytime). He heard the boos and said “But, we’re all Tigers”, or something like that. I don’t know if it kind of freaked him out or not. I imagine it would – the boos were probably in jest, but still. . . I was so disappointed that I couldn’t see him, and couldn’t really get into the music! And, to be honest, I think that all these weeks of watching various videos of the other shows has ruined it a little for me. Seeing some of the videos of the Dallas show tells me that he was a lot looser and maybe not as tired out as he was last night. I don’t know. Like, he didn’t have any comment about anything. He said that “My Hero” was for his brother Adam, he introduced “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” as something he did on the show. He did the filming of the audience. But he wasn’t trying to pump the audience to yell, like he does in some of the videos I’ve watched from other places, and he was stalking across the stage, but not running around it.
He and MJ did come alive a bit during the group sing. I could see a bit of the dance, not much. At least they were on my side of the stage when they did it.
Well, I’ve just read back through this, and I flipped over the the TWOP forum, where someone was posting about Cook getting a bouquet of flowers, giving them to Archie, and Archie playfully bopping Cook on the head with them. I saw Cook get the flowers, but I didn’t see that. I also didn’t see the dance quite as good as when I watched the video posted here. Seems I missed some of the onstage fun, seated where I was. Just like, in the video of Please don’t Stop the Music, I can see that they went backstage and all came back with beads on. That was cool, but I never saw it. So maybe my whole impression is unfair. I used to be a hard-core concert goer - in the days when general admission meant camping out in front until the doors opened, so that you could claim your spot on the floor in front of the stage. Now, floor seats are the expensive seats, impossible to come by because of radio station give aways and other comps. At this arena, they had a huge barrier about 6 - 8 feet from the stage, so that there wasn’t any interaction between the performers and the people in the front rows - they could shake hands of a few people on the extreme side of the stage, but that was it, they were reduced to waving at the front row people. I would have been p.o.’d if I had paid for front row seats!
If anyone else was there and has a better impression, I won’t argue. I will readily admit that my opinion was affected by the way that I saw the show. I would sit in a suite again, if asked, but not for something that I really, really wanted to experience.
Thanks. Appreciate your honest review. From personal experience I can tell you that concert experience is very different from nosbleeds versus close to stage seats. Good to know, to not opt for boxed seats in sports arenas for music concerts.
Aw, the Locomotion was awesome. Maybe we can get the Freddie or the Frug next, if they’re doing 60s dances. They haven’t done the swim yet, either, have they?
The possibilities are endless…
I can’t wait to see what they come up with for Kansas City.
Thanks for posting, Rita. Sorry that you didn’t enjoy it more….
I was there too Rita! We had seats on the first row on the Mavid side. I had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the show. I think you’re right about the box seats. They do distance you from the “Experience” I thought Michael and Carly were amazing! For me they were the best part of the first half of the show. From my viewpoint they brought the excitement back after Ramiele pretty much destroyed all the excitement Chikezie had built up. The only performances I didn’t care for were Ramiele’s and Kristy Lee’s. I thought every one else did a great job.
The bouquet of flowers was given to David Cook by a little girl who was celebrating her birthday. She wanted to give the flowers to David so her Mom brought her over to our side for her to give the Bouquet to him.
My impression of the concert is a little different from yours in that I didn’t see the Idols as being detached as I saw the audience not really getting into the show. From my vantage it didn’t seem like there were that many people who stood up as so many of the other shows have done. I also noticed that there were quite a few empty spots. I’ll be interested to see how many tickets were sold for the show.
As for the booing and the tiger comments, I think David got that the crowd was booing about the Missouri Tigers in a joking way not in a serious way because he was smiling when he said,”But that’s OK because we’re all tigers.” You are right in that we didn’t get much DC banter. He tried a few times but got little response from the crowd.
The Mavid Dance was great! It seems like all the others are starting to get into it too. They seemd to really be having fun and going along with the Mavid.
All in all I had a great time.
Barbariba,
So glad to see your response! I was wondering if it was just my vantage point, or if the crowd was sort of lukewarm. You are right about Ramiele, but then I used her set to go get popcorn and visit a little with the suitemates. Yes, I thought Chikezie did a great job. I love that old school R & B, and I hope he can make a career for himself.
A shame the audience was not into it. I saw empty seats way in the back, but I’ll take your word for it that there were a lot. I’m sure that school beginning had a lot to do with it. The folks who schedule these things may not realize that down here school tends to start before Labor Day.
Glad David wasn’t really offended by the boos. See, I couldn’t really see the video screens very well, either. I tried to use binoculars, but they were annoying to me.
I just found a link on YouTube to the Tigers bit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOrgskYFJJc
He is laughing, so I guess he realized it wasn’t personal. Now, if he really wanted to endear himself to the LSU fan further, he could have made note of the fact that LSU’s star player last year, Glen Dorsey, is now going to be playing with his team, the KC Chiefs. Too much trivia? I guess so.
Was the sound as bad in the arena as I thought it was? I told my friend that I thought it sounded “muddy”, and she responded that it always sounds bad. That’s a shame.
And, on the suite, I will say that my friend also told me that she went to the Keith Urban/Carrie Underwood show, and the catwalk there had been built all the way out to the middle of the arena - she said the view was lots better that way, so that may have been one of the problems, too.
I hate to sound ungrateful, because my tickets were free, after all, and I had a private bathroom! Glad you had a good time, Barbariba, good to “meet” you here, and maybe next time it’ll be better (hopefully, David Cook will come back to Sport/Bossier when he does his solo tour!)
Thanks to both Rita and Barbariba for giving your thoughts on the show.
Barbariba, I am a big Michael, Carly, and David Cook fan, so I’d love to hear some details on what you thought of their performances. Please give us more if you can.
Thanks for the reviews guys, it’s interesting to see the different perspectives.

On another note I hope Archie is feeling better and got some rest yesterday…
This was from Rickey’s from the Bossier show:
Humidity is good for the voice so thats good… lol
I thought that the tiger thing was cute. That is definitely one thing that DC has over some of the others in terms of being able to personalize his banter—he can always fall back on sports.
Thats just remind me of this Archie quote:
I hope he is feeling better he is getting in to Cook´s territory soon…
Sometimes I get nervous about that.. but Im hoping they give all the idol’s a nice warm welcome and not just for Cookie. ^__^ Just using Utah as an example, they were great to everyone.
–
On that note I remeber hearing in a interview or read that Archie was actually looking foward to Cook’s home town area tour stops, because he gets to introduce him and loves to hear them cheer for Cookie! How cute is that?
He seems to love seeing the other idol’s fans supporting them as well. He made a comment I think at the busses one time, like saying how it was awesome to see a bunch of Rami fans there.
Somehow I don´t think the problem always are the fans, but the media… since I haven´t follow all of the coverage that Kansas have giving to AI this year, but those that I have read still have a lot of competition sentiment going on…
Yes, David said before going to Utah, I guess that it was in Los Angeles interviews that he was excited to introduce Cook in his hometown…
MJ brought the house down with We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You. Everyone was rocking and screaming. He mentioned that there was a lady in the audience he wanted to thank and that she would know what he was talking about. Her name is Allison and she helped start his biggest online fansite and has done a great job in promoting Michael. He also mentioned that this he was at the buses earlier and that it was the hottest day of the tour. Fans gave him a towel so he could keep wiping the sweat off his face. Louisiana in August is extremely hot and humid so I understand what he was saying. All 3 of his songs were awesome, especially Dream On. In person MJ is even sexier and better looking than on tv and he is very tall.
Carly’s set was absolutely amazing. She hit every note perfectly. My favorite was I Drove All Night, but others that were with me liked Bring Me To Life or Crazy On You best. All three songs were great. She’s much smaller in person and is drop dead gorgeous and has the most beautiful skin!
I am so hoping MJ and Carly do well because I really want to listen to those two amazing voices for a long time.
Thanks for the details Barbariba. Those two are my favorites (especially Carly) and it was great to hear that you enjoyed them so much. I love Michael too, but I think Carly has the most amazing voice. I was able to meet her in Charlotte-she is much smaller in person and is so gorgeous and was very sweet to me. I really hope both of them do well in the future too because they are so talented. Have you heard the news that they are supposed to record a duet to be released this fall? I can’t wait for it!!!
Yes, i heard that MJ & Carly are going to record a duet. I wonder if it will be an original song? I so hope so. I could listen to them sing all day long. This season I had a really hard time in choosing between at least 4 of the contestants. For the most part they are all sooo talented and I wish them all nothing but the best. Looks like I’ll be buying multiple albums from some of these guys.
