American Idols Live! 2008 - Columbus, OH

Sorry! I had another torturous day of travel yesterday. I didn’t get home until 4 am…

If you attended the Columbus show last night, put your stuff here! Or send me your recap at mjsbigblog at gmail.com…

Arca’s Columbus Videos!

Thank you Steph, for the videos! I’m waiting for your review…heh.

There are reports on the scary boards about David Cook being stalked at the hotel in Chicago by crazed fantards. Awesome! Also, there’s another report about fans spraying Michael Johns with water at the buses after the show in Columbus OH last night. WTF? The Idols so far have been generously meeting fans before and after the shows at the buses, that won’t last at this rate. Read about it here.

I’m sorry to hear you had more travel woes, mj, but glad you’re home now. :)

I read this really cute fan recap… Seems like MJ and DC had some fun with the Ohio show. Hopefully some of this will turn up in videos.

Ok….best moment of the whole show right here! He usually has the stage guy come out and bring him his guitar for My Hero….well who should walk out with his guitar but our very own Michael Johns! Cookie busted out laughing! LOL As did I! He goes: Ladies and gentleman! Mr Michael Johns! And then Michael just stands there and puts the guitar strap over Cookie’s head…..placing all nicely. lol Then he proceeds to get down on his knee next to Cookie, put his hands up in the air….and worship his man! LOL It was so freaking perfect! *sigh*Cookie just kept laughing. And he’s like: We’ve been talking about doing that for weeks! I’m glad it was here!

    “Go Bucks? Who’s Bucks?” LMAO

To add to the hotel stalking I’m more disturbed by the sign I read about on TWOP that some Archie fan had, the one that said “I killed 12 million people after the finale..I’m looking for my last victim” with a picture of David. That’s a visible threat right there and I really don’t blame him for being pissed, upset, shaken up, whatever else he’s feeling. It doesn’t shock me since I see a scary level of hate and bitterness flung at him on message boards, but to go to a concert with that? Some people are seriously screwed up in the head and if David has to refrain from coming out to meet fans with this kind of garbage happening I would feel better. JMO.

OMG Trina, that is beyond disturbing. That is a real and eminent threat, and the person threatening should be arrested to maintain public peace. Poor idols.

Oh my God. I’m beyond horrified right now. Who in their right mind would make a sign like that? That’s insane and so scary.
I’ve read enough during the season to not be surprised by the level of animosity, but to actually take a sign like that somewhere public? WTF?!

Do you know that DC saw that? I need some context here before I completely freak out.

Deleted because I missed Jolene’s post between two of mine. Gah!

    Anyway, Cee’s pics are here.

Where’s that burly bodyguard that followed David all over the place for a while? I want him back. Someone–here?–suggested they need security on the FAN side of the fence. Amen to that, and Jason would probably sing Hallelujia, too.

I’m all for DC having some fun with the shows. If he’s happy, we’re happy! : ) It’s so great that he’s making the effort to keep things fresh for his audience. He truly is an amazing, dedicated performer! Also from all other accounts, he seems to have developed good relations with the other idols. AI is really lucky to have him! And with that said, they better do one heck of a job protecting him from the crazies. It boggles the mind where all this hate is coming from. Personally, I’d be beside myself if anything bad were to happen to him.

Oh no, I can’t believe that someone would make a sign like that! As an Archuleta fan, it really disappoints me. That person should not reflect on all Archie fans, let me just say. The competition is over, the idols are moving on with their new careers, so it confuses me that a bitter fan made that sign. *Sigh* That’s horrible…

When I get a chance I’m going to have to search on youtube to see if anyone uploaded a clip of this. How cute, I love me some Mavid!

I’ve never followed other AI tours so I’m not sure if this kind of fan behavior is common at the shows (stalking the Idols away from the theaters, throwing things at them, asking one Idol to go get a different one for you, holding up nasty signs, shoving so hard people get pushed up against the barricades, etc.) but seriously, WTF, this kind of stuff is way OTT.

  15. 15 purplesmile Jul 21st, 2008 at 12:38 pm

That fan was probably just trying to be funny, except it wasn’t very funny…

I noticed that, and it seems that one of the guys involved has written several songs for Chris Brown and was also involved in writing No Air. We know how popular both Chris Brown is and Jordin’s No Air so hopefully this works out well for Archie.

I also noticed David Cook has a song listed with ASCAP, Not Me, which has him listed as the performer and the writer as Neal Tiemann (Cookie’s former bandmate in Midwest Kings, I think).

The crowds have definitely been getting bigger, scarier and more aggressively annoying. I’m glad I got to see them in SLC, which was very calm and organized. Bodyguards, yes, please.

  18. 18 abbysee Jul 21st, 2008 at 1:33 pm

All of this stuff is beyond disturbing. The stalking fans yelling in hotels, the silly ass sign that should have been confiscated, the screaming hatred for Syesha, asking one idol to fetch another….. all of that shit is just so over the top. I hate that others can ruin this experience. It may just come to past that they will be very limited access to the ‘idols’. It’s sad because this access is what makes the idol wheel go round, but if the idiocy continues, I could see this change.

    Anyway, Cee’s pics are here.

Thanks purplesmile. Are these from Columbus? Can I be hopeful again to see DC before the concert in Cincy?

Never mind, I went back and clicked on Jolene’s post with the Cee link. It was Columbus! Yeah, there’s hope!

I love the part where he yells out O H and the audience responds I O! I’m an Ohioan and my hubby’s a huge Buckeyes fan.

Thanks for the link to the recap!

As far as I know, yes. :)

  22. 22 Jolene Jul 21st, 2008 at 1:56 pm

Thanks purplesmile. Are these from Columbus?

They are from Columbus. IIRC there have only been two incidents when Cookie didn’t come out before the show, One due to press obligations, and the other one in Chicago, reason unverified, but suspected to be the hotel stalking.

I don’t know what impact, if any, the Michael Johns thing will have on future venues.

As a Buckeye, we call our beloved football team, the Bucks. You will see signs all over Ohio which say, “Go Bucks.” .

  25. 25 Lisa Jul 21st, 2008 at 3:07 pm

Where are the bodyguards for all the idol’s? Before the competition ended I read several posts from Archie fans who made different threats, most were *joking*,(nothing to joke about) . There was one in particular on the AI boards where the poster said he was going to kill David at the tour. I reported that person. There are some seriously ill folks out there in the world. And please don’t go jumping on me Archie’s, I know not all fans are like this. This person was just crazed. AI needs to get on all the Idol’s safety ASAP.

I can see how some of those people thought it was *ok* to stalk their hotel’s. In their mind they were probably thinking, if it’s ok to stalk the bus why not the hotel? Well, the hotel is different. It would be like going to their home and running through their yard, knocking on their door and yelling for them to come out. Waiting for them by the bus, the idol’s have liked the experience and so have the fan’s. It’s at their *workplace*, not their private time. The Idol’s are also protected somewhat by a fence, and from the reports I have heard, they do have bodyguards around them at that time.

A few years back, The Hanson’s lived down the road from my mother-in-law. Talk about some crazed fans. They would come from all over the world and stalk their house. They would take blades of grass, rocks, anything they could get their hands on. They took other items from the yard (can’t remember exactly what now), it became insane for that family. They moved fairly soon after.

I hope these crazy fans will get a grip and not ruin it for the rest of us. I am going to the last concert, & by the time it comes around they will all probably be under armed guard. How sad.

Summarising the crazy fantardism of the last few tour stops. I wonder when, if at all, any real media outlets will pick this up.
Has something like this happened in past tours? Is this par for the course?

It makes sense that Daughtry bought a house in a gated community although it was roundly mocked at the time as an expensive choice. Given the crazed nature of some people, I don’t think you can put a price on making your family feel/be safe.

Keel thanks for the story. Someone made a poster out of David’s family’s home phone number????

Ok these fans are managing to creep me out too. I am starting to feel sorry and a bit worried for him now. Poor David.

Wow, DC is definitely a class act! He handled that situation with such grace and thoughfulness. Can’t believe how calm he was! I only hope people get the drift! One has his limits, too, and let’s pray he isn’t pushed to his.

  35. 35 waffle Jul 21st, 2008 at 8:22 pm

This is not that clip, but you can see here the part where MJ kneels in front of Cookie (in lieu of the robot dance?) at 2:33 (and a brief dork-dancing by Jason and MJ at 2:18)… ;)

  39. 39 sue Jul 21st, 2008 at 10:20 pm

I don’t remember fans being that crazy? I can’t believe that happened to the idols. If they really sprayed something on MJ, that may be it for signing autographs after the show. I can’t believe how idiotic and stupid some fans can be. It’s just over the top. I rather not meet the idols if this shit continues. Their freakin safety should be on the top of the list. I hope DC, Michael and the rest of the idol are ok. Even Archie is getting bombarded by IM’s and people wanting to talk to him on the phone. Meeting up at the hotels is a no no. Let them rest, they need their space. This is all very disturbing.

  40. 40 pj Jul 21st, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Well, there were reports of peeps chasing Taylor into a bathroom at one of the after hours shows.

I witnessed girls chasing Blake and Chris Rich outside of the hotel in Tampa.

So, yeah, it happens. That weird water thing with Johnsy is more scary to me.

  41. 41 Jabkmc Jul 22nd, 2008 at 12:30 am

Archie has mentioned a few times that back home in Murray people are cruising his street and peeping in the windows of the house. They have to go a fair distance through the yard from the street to do that. And he’s not even there! Scary. It’s freaking his Mom out. They are going to have to move once the tour is over I’m afraid.

  42. 42 sherryw Jul 22nd, 2008 at 2:39 am

The stalking at the hotel thing is creepy but it has happened in previous years; sadly, that is nothing new.
The overly aggressive behavior towards other fans, the water thing with Michael (wtf was that about?) and posters threatening to kill DC (nice way to support Archie)? That is just plain sick. Security should be beefed up or they shouldn’t come out to see the fans at all. It really is unfortunate that a few rotten apples have to spoil the whole bunch.
Such behavior (however inadvertently) gives individual fan bases and by extension all AI fans a bad name. Shame on them.

  43. 43 bean99 Jul 22nd, 2008 at 9:00 am

Someone did catch a bit of Michael giving David the guitar (courtesy of TWOP).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLbmvA-4N3w

How could someone make a poster of David’s family phone number without knowing it was wrong? There’s some disconnect there, don’t you think? :thumbdown_tb:

  44. 44 BuckeyeGal007 Jul 22nd, 2008 at 10:56 am

As a fan who was at the Columbus, OH before concert informal M&G and at the concert, I am appalled by some of the things I heard that happened at the after concert informal M&G session.

People need to realize that their idiotic actions may cost fans for future shows the right to meet their Idols.

The before concert informal M&G went really well. No one was trying to shove or push anyone to get close to an Idol. There weren’t a ton of people there before, like afterward, so that’s probably why it went smoother. People actually were respectful of others and to the Idols.

It seems that MJ, David Cook, and Syesha are bearing th brunt of crazy fan behavior, so hopefully they realize that not all of us are like that and I hope they don’t get a tainted view of fans in cities where there are two or three fans who act like barbarians.

How could someone make a poster of David’s family phone number without knowing it was wrong? There’s some disconnect there, don’t you think?

Some screws are loose or missing. There is no other explanation. Totally creepy-freaky.

Okay, first of all… I was there and saw the girl with that poster. And David Cook NEVER saw it because he NEVER came out. I don’t think any other idol saw it or any security people saw it either. That girl put the poster away right after showing it to the few people that were around her [including me] while we were waiting. And the only reason she showed it was because WE asked her to. The poster was never intended to be a serious threat, it was just a joke between her and her friends. She wasn’t like a crazy stalker at all, she was a really nice and calm person. If you actually met her, you could tell she wasn’t serious at all about the poster and that she was just joking around.
