    MAVID shrug

That’s right, shrug. It’s looks like they were both at a loss as to what to do tonight. heh

I actually think they planned this out just as much as any of their dances. It’s very faux innocent “What could possibly happen now? We’re just going to stand here, did you expect anything else?”
They’re totally playing us at this point. LOL

    That is true. LOL

sorry .. didn’t mean to double post but i can’t edit

no prob! WOW. SBM is becoming a showstopper – didja hear how smoothly he shifts through those runs, the falsetto… his feel and timing for the beat is impeccable – and he imbues it all w/so much soul… Simon told him “When you got it, you got”, and no more needs to be said……. CRUSHIN‘ on your beautiful voice David…….

I think each little Mavid vignette is one of the only unscripted possibilities of the evening for them, except for the slight banter options they each have during their set. So they’re making the most of this breath of fresh air. I see it like a long running show within a show consisting of 10-15 second installments played out at each new show. Knowing what I do about David, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t have parallels to DC’s setlist idea on the show. Maybe each type of movement is a code and you put in all together at the end of the tour, and it spells out some crazy message. Maybe we just saw some kind of punctuation. Just a theory.

Billie Jean .. Not good audio though

  • RV65:

That Nassau review was just that……….meh

  • Layla:

The following excerpt from the review was very very nice to DC!

Well, actually we weren’t. The annual “American Idol” tour may have some rock elements, but it’s pretty far away from arena-filling rock shows. And this year’s version — despite Cook’s excellent set, featuring his hit “Time of My Life” and his ever-impressive grunge interpretations of Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” — was farther away than usual.

I do not think the thing they do is as spontaneous probably planned between david and mj a little beforehand and the stage managers set up a moment for them to do thier thing .Looking at the video of the greese/boogie dance:
1st David/mjs before it starts reacttion
2ndThe main piont how it comes off smooth and fits in without disrupting what the others are doing .
The result a surprise for the audiance to look forward too .Just keeping it real.

So how about some information on the others like Jason, Brooke extra..

  • Allison:

    Well Gamboa liked Brooke:

Brooke White was the evening’s biggest surprise, looking comfortable on the big stage, especially on a lovely version of Coldplay’s “Yellow.”

I so would like to see her in her element. I think she could be huge.

  • Ha – The Mavid non-dance – still funny stuff.

Hehehe. That Mavid thing has become a show within itself…even if it is five seconds long.

Re: Mavid. Half the fun is that they know we’re watching. It’s become a little in joke between them and the fans…

  • TOP 5 SURPRISES AT “AMERICAN IDOLS LIVE” LAST NIGHT

    5. Jason Castro doesn’t get “Crazy”: It’s hard to believe, but somehow he made the Gnarls Barkley song “Crazy” annoying. It was slowed down, kinda noisy and a little messed up, even after he flubbed the words of “Over the Rainbow,” though he smoothed it over nicely.

    4. Ramiele Malubay’s Strong Island salute: Sure, she probably doesn’t know that Taylor Dayne is from Baldwin, but that doesn’t really matter. Her version of “Love Will Lead You Back” was strong and sweet and connected well.

    3. Kristy Lee Cook still working it: She wasn’t the best singer, but she still knows how to give a crowd what it wants. She got a big ovation, in part, because she was the only one who handed out t-shirts.

    2. Brooke White, arena rocker: Nothing fazed Brooke White. Not the big crowd, not the faulty mic stand that get slipping so that she had to stop playing guitar and hold it up a couple of times, after skooching down slowly to keep singing into the mic. And when it came time to bring it, she knocked Coldplay’s “Yellow” out of the park.

    1. Michael Johns’ booty pop: He had the best set of all the Idols (sorry Davids), belting out “We Are the Champions” and “Dream On” like he had been playing arenas for years. But the way he enjoyed himself during the two group songs made Johns all the more endearing, especially his half-joking version of the Beyonce booty pop from “Crazy in Love” that he did during “Don’t Stop the Music.” It was one of the evening’s only moments where it looked like someone was enjoying with working with everyone else.

    Nice :D

I’m glad that Brooke is consistently getting good reviews. Very pleased that she’s more comfortable performing in a big arena than one would expect.

Just a note that that last review is written by the same guy as the Newsday one. It’s written up a different way, but same thoughts from the same guy.

I still haven’t found anyone to confirm Jason’s so called lyrics flub. I’ve been wondering if this guy just doesn’t know the Iz lyrics or if Jason actually flubbed them. I’m leaning towards the former.

Kristen updated her Mavid video. It was still updating when she emailed me the link:

Thanks Arca! These are great and I could only peek for a second until I can sit quietly and watch them later. Very cool. I see myself holding my “I AM A BLANK SLATE FOR DAVID COOK sign! (and I mean little sign; it was an afterthought, something I actually did sitting in the audience, using my Sharpie and an 8 by 10 paper I brought with me… just in case…. but it worked and he read it and that was a nice touch to a terrific night).

    Speaking of signs:
Look to the far right side of the arena, close to the stage
(as if David is looking towards the audience)
A fan made a lovely lit-up, flashing white bulbs I HEART DAVID COOK sign
David noticed it (how could you not?!) and he commented “How pretty!” it was.
