    A few tidbits from early recaps at other sites -

    The Mavid dance of the night was apparently something called “The Cabbage Patch”. I have NO idea what that is, but can’t wait to see the video, lol!

    Cookie got teary during TOML because the audience was singing along with him. He stopped in the middle of the song to listen to the crowd, and said he’s been waiting his entire life for something like that. Awww. I.just.adore.him.

    ETA: I Lurve Livehead! Bless Her!

    Here’s the cabbage patch c/o Livehead (who is apparently going to each concert on the east side) — as long as she continues filming it for the rest of us…

    Ok I think i need a serious intervention. I hear David Cook tears up and I do. I don’t even need to see it to make me cry lol.

    The mavid patch dance was all sorts of awesome. What will they think of next.

    The ‘lawnmower’ will be next hahaha

    They are adorable. He is adorable.
    I may die of adorable overload, but what a way to go. :)

    OK, seriously tell me someone filmed this. Must see. Must.
    God, I may start to sob myself.

    That Mavidance had me laughing so hard I actually banged my head against the table. Ouch.
    That was AWESOME!

    The Mavidance is turning into crack - had to come look for it at 249 am when I have to get up at 430 am - lol. I LOVE IT.

    *peeps in* *looks around* Am I the only one up and listening for Archie’s song to premier?

    OMG They just said the he hasn’t even heard the mix of it yet and that it was still being mixed last night! That scares me. @_@

  11. 11 JudyOhio Aug 1st, 2008 at 7:44 am

    Nope IGetCranked. I’m tuned into Z100 right now, lol. You are not alone.

  12. 12 Layla Aug 1st, 2008 at 8:07 am

    Damn! I can stream it here in Copenhagan! Fuck!

  13. 13 IGetCranked Aug 1st, 2008 at 8:07 am

    This has been a great interview! I liked the song :)

    There’s a thread for Archie single talk, so let’s get this thread back on topic. Thanks.

    I loved it as usual. Does anyone get the feel that these 2 are really going to ham it up today when they ring the closing bell at the NASDAQ?

    Video of pretty, pretty David singing IDWTMAT courtesy of the wonderous Livehead16:

    Also from Livehead, pictures taking during TOML, and a nice recap. She did not get video of this one. Sadness. Hopefully, someone did. I wanna see weepy Cookie.

    Arghh. Sorry, can’t edit.

    Snippet of the ending of TOML, showing David trying to get himself together. Too sweet he is.

    I must say, David’s performance of IDWTMAT was spectacular in Day 2! Really strong vocals!!! Definitely no sign of the hoarseness he had going on in the previous nights. Must be that boost from the audience during TOML. :)

  20. 20 kathrynTX Aug 1st, 2008 at 12:12 pm

    *thud* I’m dead on the floor, COD Magic Rainbows and tears. Oh wait I have to go see David and the rest of the Idols at least twice so I better get back up. And I’ll have to go see him on his solo tourS. So OK, I’ll watch IDWTMAT now and that will bring me back. GAWD I’m such a fangirl! Thanks for the great vids and pics, livehead. Cook sounded pretty dang good to me, I hope his voice is OK. Love the Mavid Dances, can’t wait to see what they do next! :wub_tb:

    First a disclaimer - I came late to American Idol - I never watched it before - and only started watching at the Top 5 this year after someone sent me links to Billy Jean and Hello. Even then, I would stop everything I was doing to watch David Cook’s performances and then multi-task while the others were performing. So in a sense I was seeing everyone except David C for the first time. (No pictures or video from me - I was on the floor 18th row - but my camera was crappy - so I didn’t waste my time.)

    Chikezie:
    * very good, energetic start to the show
    * I would like to hear more from him.

    Ramiele:
    * cute, petite, sparkly
    * pleasant but not memorable

    Michael
    * first one to get the crowd singing along with him for the Queen medley and Dream On! And I was right there singing with everyone else.
    * Dream On sounded fantastic. Can’t believe he was booted when he sang that on the show.
    * Does he move to his own rhythm? We were all clapping in time to the beat at one point - and he was moving to a whole ‘nother beat.

    Kristy
    * pretty, sparkly
    * great hip-action going
    * liked the first song the most - but can’t even remember it’s name
    * she tried to get the crowd up and excited - the crowd tried - but somehow it didn’t all come together - still the hip-action is a total winning move on her part.

    Carly
    * Jersey loved Carly.
    * She looked great - in total command of the stage.
    * I loved Bring Me to Life (but a bit of nostalgia going on for me - I wanted to see Toby Rand from RSSN jump in with the Wake Me Up chorus - I miss him!).
    * the gloves were missing.

    Brooke
    * pleasant and enjoyable
    * I liked the second number 1,2,3,4 - and she tried to get us involved in a snap off - but while we were all snapping like crazy - I don’t think snapping can be heard well in such a large arena - at least I couldn’t hear it very well.

    Group Number
    * I was going to write something about it - but then when I tried to remember it - couldn’t remember much - except for the introduction for Michael Johns - which I suppose is their apology to him for his early elimination.

    Jason
    * not sparkly but oh! so relaxing and pleasant - except for the screams from the audience
    * surprising, I didn’t expect to like him and found myself enjoying his set very much.
    * enjoyed all the songs - but liked Day Dreaming Boy the most - and sang along with him.

    Syesha
    * NJ loved her.
    * beautiful girl, strong voice - but I’m not into diva-type singing even when it’s done by Mariah or Celine.
    * sparkly shoes - I want a pair.

    David Archuleta
    * loved the entrance - the piano and the smoke billowing out from under and cascading down the stage like he was playing on a cloud.
    * lots and lots of love and screams from the audience
    * I found myself really liking Angels and Stand By Me - didn’t expect to like the Beautiful Girls part - but I did.
    * patter between songs is getting better and I expect him to really grow as a performer.
    * however, the little girls screaming mid songs at tender moments was a bit much - when his voice is so beautiful why would you want to ruin it so that you can’t hear him - scream between verses please!
    * also David A and Syesha both did the grasp the stomach and bend over in pain move - does that produce better vocals? - or is it just a dramatic thing?

    David Cook
    * as previously confessed, this is what I was here for. YouTube does not do his performances justice.
    * Jersey loved him - the majority near me on the floor were standing for his whole performance - I could not take my eyes off of him.
    * the guyliner was over the top - crazy insane application bordering on Ozzie - but I’m alright with that - I could not take my eyes off of him.
    * Bouffe has previously written this about David C - HOLY FUCKING ROCKSTAR BATMAN!!! - so I had an inkling of what to expect - but you only know what she means when you see it - mild-mannered Midwestern guy by day - loves his family, puppies, and children - but at night on that stage he is a a FUCKEN ROCKSTAR - I COULD NOT TAKE MY EYES OFF OF HIM!!
    * He teased the crowd before My Hero - like he was going to play something else - I read that someone said it was Bon Jovi
    * I missed the part where he teared up after or during TOML - maybe because I was singing along and yelling - I don’t know how I missed it - cause - I could not take my eyes off of him.
    * Angry intense Billy Jean - I loved it - it’s a good thing Billy Jean didn’t show up on stage - I think she would have been thrashed.
    * Whoever designed those pants should win a prize!
    * Did I mention I could not take my eyes off of him?

    PDSTM
    * the music starts and I’m all excited - I’ve seen every Mavid dance - and this is now an earworm for me - I’m singing along.
    * Michael starts it off with a big knee slide and then a carry of Kristie Lee Cook.
    * the Mavid dance is going to take place right in front of me - and I get in the aisles and move even closer.
    * loved it - they pause and look at each other - then they look like they are churning butter or mixing a heavy batter - I later read it is the Cabbage Patch
    * if the others on the other side of the stage had stripped naked - I’m not sure anyone would have noticed - I think many are just waiting for the latest edition of the Mavid dance.

    To anyone hesitating - I didn’t think I would enjoy the whole show - and felt funny about going - I loved it - and I recommend you go.

  22. 22 spritely Aug 1st, 2008 at 12:42 pm

    Loved that, Jan. Thanks! I am looking forward to not being able to take my eyes off him. :)

  23. 23 Jolene Aug 1st, 2008 at 12:46 pm

    Jan, that was an awesome recap! Really enjoyed that, thank you for sharing. Loved every last detail about DC’s set.

    That video of Cookie losing his shit onstage is one of the most moving things I’ve seen recently. I’m still hoping someone got that from upclose (or even better - that performance of TOML which caused it in the first place) - but for now, I’ll totally take this faraway version. I love that he got that moment.

  24. 24 GwendolynD Aug 1st, 2008 at 12:54 pm

    Thanks for the recap, Jan. It was great to see that Chikezie was back!

  25. 25 Trina Aug 1st, 2008 at 1:00 pm

    That Cookie video has turned me into a blubbering mess. I might be a Cougar but watching that brings out the proud mom in me. For as much as we may joke about the cheesiness that is magic rainbow, that’s his magic rainbow damn it! When he said he’s waited his whole life for that moment I’m sure growing up he never expected a song like that to be his first hit single, but in the end I don’t think it matters. Lots of people knew the words to his song and he’s got to feel proud. [/sap]

    That was a great recap, Jan. Interesting to hear your take on the contestants that you didn’t really follow during the season.

    Thanks for the great recap, Jan. I don’t want to take my eyes off him either :)

    Looks like Brooke has some serious hip movements going on herself. She’s adorable!

    Yes, she is - you can’t watch and listen to her without smiling - yellow in all it’s glory is her color - she is just that sunny

    David Cook, tearing up to the audiance singing TOML! Wow, that’s just awesome! I do hope a vid comes up soon with it! I good close up one too.

    I did appreciate livehead’s pictures and description though. Thanks for posting!

    This guy, DC, I. just. don’t. know. what. to. say. anymore!

  31. 31 cookcricket Aug 1st, 2008 at 3:48 pm

    Oh yeah and the Mavid dance hilarious! IDWTMAT getting better and better if possible!

    Also, thanks Jan for your review! Many times I had things to do on Tuesday night too during the AI show, but same as you, I always stopped what I was doing to watch DC!

  32. 32 GEEK4VOCAB Aug 1st, 2008 at 5:19 pm

    OH. MY. GOD.

    David and Michael are officially RIDONKULOUS!!

    And I love them both.

    (but David more… shhhhh!)

  33. 33 IGetCranked Aug 1st, 2008 at 8:55 pm

    Loved the recap! I was glad to hear David Cook did so well because I have been anxious about his voice holding up.

    * also David A and Syesha both did the grasp the stomach and bend over in pain move - does that produce better vocals? - or is it just a dramatic thing?

    ^ Masterclass lady was talking about moves like these do help your ability.

  34. 34 EmmaJK Aug 1st, 2008 at 10:26 pm

    I found a full-length TOML from last night. It’s minus the teary ending, but at around 1:55 he stops singing and you hear only the crowd. The point of view is cool, too. Filmed from way up high, you can see the size of the crowd, alight with glow-sticks. Chills. No wonder he got weepy.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKoXBTs3XeM

    (I swear I do more during the day than troll the internet for videos. I went to work, paid attention to my kids, my husband and fed the dogs. But, there’s always time for Cookie :) )

  35. 35 cooktard76 Aug 2nd, 2008 at 6:54 am

    Thank you Jan! This recap cracked me up, especially the part about not being familiar w/ the Cabbage Patch and to you it looked like Mavid was “churning butter.” LMAO!!!

  36. 36 bean99 Aug 2nd, 2008 at 7:52 am

    Great recap, Jan. I’ve gotten so I want to start every day with the new Mavid dance but can’t get that stupid song out during the day. I’m looking forward to it 2nd only to seeing Michael when they come to Dallas. :wub_tb:

  37. 37 grrrr Aug 2nd, 2008 at 2:47 pm

    then they look like they are churning butter or mixing a heavy batter

    Yeah, to me, this isn’t the Cabbage Patch, it’s the Mayonesa dance. Heh, I’ve officially put too much thought into this!

    Loved the review jan, thanks for sharing your experience with us.
