Gah! I should be there and coming home to give my ever-so-witty recap (heh), but vacay over the past 10 days and now having to head back into work mode, I just can’t make the time. Looking forward to feedback from the peeps that can make it.
The show at the Honda Center in Anaheim California last night was a night of hits and misses. Of the past three Idol shows I’ve seen, this one was probably the weakest to this point and it isn’t all to blame on the Idols themselves. The sound quality was awful. Most of the time you couldn’t hear what the Idols were saying when they would talk to the audience and unless you knew the song or had some familiarity to the song they were seeing, it was hard to understand what they were signing most of the time. The show itself wasn’t terrible though. A great rendition of “Hey Jude” performed by all 5 guys was very stong. Jordin Sparks nailed Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker,” and Blake Lewis had an entertaining performance showing off his beatbox skills.
Most of the girls seemed to be there for Lewis, but it seemed like Richardson was the main focus. Until the end of the show, it appeared that he was on more than anyone including Sparks, the American Idol. He didn’t have a lack of female supporters either though.
The crowd seemed to be less into Haley and Chris Sligh who both seemed to be full of energy, but wasn’t on as much as some of the others like Richardson.
I think it is safe to say that there really isn’t a Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood or Chris Daughtry in this group, but they were still entertaining and if nothing else, I’m sure Ace Young would love to have any of them with him when he tours the Summer Fairs with his Idol Frirends. Finale Grade: C
What is WITH the sound mixing issues this year? It’s almost a third of the way into the tour and they are STILL having trouble? Good grief!
Ouch! LOL didn’t Chris R. already play one of those shows with Ace already?
There’s a (long) blog/review of the show here:

I enjoyed reading that blog, Purplesmile. Loved the proposal, lol.
The energy was a little off in Anaheim but that was the crowd’s fault. This cranky old lady behind me told me to sit down when I was trying to Get This Started (per the first number), and for most of the show the rest of the audience seemed to have the same attitude.
Otherwise everyone hit their marks, sang well, and yes judging from the sheer volume of fangirl squee Blake and Chris R were still the big draws, so it must’ve given the tour managers a heart attack when they didn’t arrive with the rest of the Idols on the buses from the hotel that day :) Blake either totally forgot the lyrics on a line of YGLABN, or he skipped it on purpose, depends who you ask (meaning he covered well if he did.) I just thought the mic was acting up again.
LaKisha brought down the house with I Will Always Love You; Chris R/Jordin did a pretty rendition of What Hurts The Most. I agree that the sound mix is still awful.
