Christina Aguilera is opening the show with “7 songs in 7 minutes” of her greatest hits. She’s pimping her greatest hits album Decade of Hits. The Jonas Brothers are discussing their wardrobe with Carrie Ann. Brooks Brothers! Fascinating. They’ll be performing a song later, called “Tonight”.
Carrie Ann interviews Jamie Foxx. They worked on In Living Color together. I did not know that! He’s got an album coming out December 16. He rattled off a list of star producers he’s working with. All these people are pimping something.
DAVID ARCHULETA IN THE HOUSE! He’s dressed in dark blue. Very nice. The ladies’ attentions makes him feel a little “awkward”. Carrie Ann calls him a “hunk”. Lolz.
David Cook performs “Declaration”. BUT THEN THEY CUT TO COMMERCIAL IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. Wtf?
Leona Lewis tells Carrie Ann she’s gone “20’s 30s” in her wardrobe, and she’s singing “Better in Time” later. She claims Simon Cowell has never given her any negative comments.
Nicole, the chick from the Pussycat Dolls interviews The New Kids on the Block who are no longer kids. Sads. They appeared on the Pussycat Dolls album. What a gig! The “kids” are forced to watch an embarrassing clip of their performance on the 1999 AMA’s. Super Sads.
Colbie Caillat is wearing a dress made of flowers. She looks like she’s wearing someone’s lawn.
Chris Brown and his giant sunglasses go by in a flash. The Pussycat Dolls were dressed by that nutball Christian Siriano.
Daughtry’s “What About Now” plays in the background of an ad for The Bachelor. Now I’m going to watch it! Psych.
Back from break and there’s Carrie Ann with Daughtry. Carrie Ann touches his head and declares it “really smooth”. They’re babbling on about Dennis Rodman. The band feels severely upstaged by the Jonas brothers, but they are excited to be nominated for 2 awards anyway.
Miley Cyrus tells Nicole it’s her birthday. She’s turning 16 for like, the 16th time. Go away, Miley!
David Cook performs “Light On” Hopefully he won’t be cut off this time. I spy somebody with a video camera! Video coming! Cook looks great in a black vest and gray pinstripes. He’s really getting the hang of singing this difficult song. He’s cheating! He’s got the crowd singing the soft part. Nice job.
Some chick from Camp Rock is only 16, and she swears she’s been through “a lot”. Like, I’m sure.
Ne-Yo is performing a medley of “Miss Independent” and “Closer” tonight. I loooove. “Closer”. He’s also starring in a movie called “Venice Beach.” It’s “loosely” based on himself.
OMG the AMA’s are AMAZING says the wacked-out and annoyingly OTT Christian Siriano.
Carrie Ann interviews Taylor Swift who is a big fan of Sarah Silverman. Hm.
Nicole interviews Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, who will be presenting tonight, and it’s a little awkward!
Jesse McCartney tells Carrie Ann he is introducing Leona Lewis tonight. He co-write her monster smash “Bleeding Love”. At this point, he’s her slave-boy. Jesse used to blast Aerosmith on “volume 11″
Archie’s fave Natasha Bedingfield, tells Carrie Ann that she’s performing “Pocketful of Sunshine”, “Soulmate” and “Unwritten”. She’s singing right after Annie Lennox. Ruh rho.
Alicia Keys has a giant diamond dripping down her scalp, bindi style. She says she’s a big fan of Coldplay and the Eagles. Who knew.

DC and the EEB looked and sounded great. I love how adorkably thrilled DC gets when people sing along with him.

Damn, Cookie’s looking good tonight. He sounded great too, I’ve literally NEVER heard someone sounds that good on these outdoor red-carpet stages. Miley is truly annoying. Jordin and Leona both look pretty!

Love, love, love the striped shirt, collared vest and tie on DC. I’m actually watching this silly show to see which outfit DC is wearing in the audience. Sad. (I didn’t realize he was going to be presenting or introducing or whatever, so that answers that question. Lookin’ yummy, Mr. Cook! He did a nice job with the introduction, too. Way better than Scott Weiland, who acted like he was on ludes or something when he intro’d Pink.)
My husband just asked if I knew Pink’s real name, and no, I do not, so he provided it: Alecia Beth Moore. Who knew? But her hair hasn’t been pink in awhile, so she might want to be Peroxide now.

I just dvr’d back to the red carpet during commercial break. I got to hand it to Cook. The “powers that be” love to give him some high-pressure performance gigs and he manages to look like a pro and powers through the usual crappy acoustics. Good for him.
So is DC still presenting, or was that it?

No one commented on David Archuleta’s makeup. He looks kind of ghoulish. (Is that how you spell ghoulish?) Really powdered off.
Me too, but since they allowed cameras, I’m pretty sure we’ll at least get fanvids of the whole thing.

I just saw the AMA “Desperation” clip. The song sounded like a Daughtry song with a touch of Nickelback and Hinder.
What does EEB mean?
All of the Idols looked great, IMO, and they all did their assigned tasks well on the show. I’m so proud. *tear*

Wow! Those guys are getting better and better with every performance! And they all looked adorable. David was so calm and polished on stage when he presented. I felt like he just belonged there. His mom is probably crying…again.
EEB stands for “Easy on the Eyes Band” …or something to that effect (I’m almost embarassed that I know that!).
I’m curious, Gabam…people keep on making the Daughtry reference which I have a hard time seeing. I can pick up a little bit of Lifehouse, Cornell and Aerosmith in some of the songs…but never Daughtry (who I have nothing against, by the way). Which Daughtry song reminds you of “Declaration”? I only know about 4 Daughtry songs (Home, Feels like Tonight, It’s Not Over and Over You) and none of those sound at all like Declaration…so I’m guessing it’s one I’m not familiar with.
DC sounds nothing like Daughtry…the idol connection makes for the comparison which is a tad superficial.

Cook and Kyle, all spiffy in their vests and ties, looking every bit the rock gods with the money note face and hair flying. David and the boys sounded even better than they look, too. I still can’t get over how tight this band sounds after only a few months. It’s like they’re seasoned pros already. Let’s see…winning AI, performing on SNL, serenading the future secretary of State and now performing at the VMAs…could the Superbowl be far behind?? Hee hee.
A long day in LA in heels but it was fun (my feet still hurt though :) All worth it to see DC and the band live doing their own songs. The whole thing seemed really impromptu. I’m really impressed by how well the band was able to start — and stop — and repeat songs as needed. They gel really well together.
There were maybe 200 people in the pit in front of the stage? A mix of people recruited via DCO and regular seat-filler types (these two girls behind me were ALL ABOUT the Jonas Bros and only mildly interested in DC, lol).
DC and band got on stage a little after 2pm w/o even a soundcheck and started off with Declaration, and then there was a little debate between DC and someone offstage (AMA people? his handlers?) about what to perform next. At one point jokes about fruit ensued (someone explain the grapefruit thing to me!)
So they seemed to settle on “Life On The Moon” — except about 30 seconds in they came to a screeching halt. Oops, wrong song!
Did “Light On” once, were told an electronic billboard in the background had the wrong image up so they did it AGAIN. Nice energy in the crowd, and I’m glad they picked up good audio of us singing along.
They tried to hustle us all out pretty quickly afterwards. A lot of us crowded up to the stage to try to chat with DC and get his autograph on our CD booklets. Someone asked who wrote KoTN and he said he and Neal did.
Hilarious moment: security guy trying to get rid of us realized there was no way we were leaving till David was gone, so he yelled to someone “Get him off the stage!!!” DC was very sweet and tried to sign as many autographs as he could before they made him leave (including mine. yay!)
He popped up again about 2 hours later on the red carpet in a different outfit. I guess they didn’t show him during the preshow cause the way they told it on tv he was supposedly doing the concert right then. Magic of TV, lol.
My bf was on camera duty and he got some good pics…I’ll try to upload them when I get home from work today.
Gabam are you referring to “Declaration”? Sounded a whole lot like David Cook to me and I love the sound. Archie looked so small with Jordan Sparks. He did seem like a kid in a candy shop at the whole thing didn’t he? Very excited. Must be exciting for both David’s to be there live, in person, with at least some of their heroes. How great to be invited to sing and to present.
