The Creative Arts Emmy winners for the 60th annual awards were announced Saturday night in Los Angeles. Taking home an award for Picture Editing of Clip Packages for Talk, Performance, Award or Reality-Competition Program were the editors of the “David Cook Goes Home” video package, featured during the American Idol Season 7 Top 3 results show.
Congrats to Bill De Ronde and Oren Castro who edited the clip.
Also taking an award in that category? The editors of “I’m F*cking Matt Damon” from the Jimmy Kimmel Show. Heh.
Congratulations are also in order for So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Wade Robson who took home an Emmy in the Outstanding Choreography category for his routine, “Hummingbird and Flower/The Chairman’s Waltz.”
The Creative Arts Emmys will air on the E! channel, Saturday, 8 pm. The Prime Time Emmys, Sunday 8 pm on ABC.

Leave it to Cook to help them get an Emmy! LOL Though I do think Archie’s look of terror during the Guru skit deserves one! Bahaha
I did like that homecoming video, particularly the shaking, crying girl… “I just want him to win so bad….!”
This is nice. It really was beautifully put together. They had top-notch ingredients and knew how to Cook them.
Emmys well deserved (Kimmel too!)
That was the first going home package that made me misty eyed. Awww.
And Wade is, and forever will be, the best reason to watch SYTYCD. This past season sorely lacked for his absence.
The Cook homecoming video was well-edited, but they had a lot of help from the cities of Kansas City and Blue Springs, and from Cook himself. All the people who came, the different things that he did (including that wonderful visit to his teacher and throwing out the first pitch), his reactions to it all, and DC’s narration helped them to make it a special clip.
And let’s not forget that wry weather report he gave!
I firmly believe that David Cook and anything he touches is made of win!
Congrats to the producer or editor of Cook´s video… I did like Archie´s clip to home a little better, we get some legendary moments and Quotes like:
“Gosh, were did they part?” LOL I still laugh at this one, was priceless… and the super mob by Cheerleaders…
and the little girl jumping and saying “David signed my shirt”, was really cute…
Him craying…
Yay. The David Cook homecoming was very moving: kids, teachers and cheerleaders (FTW!). hahaha
Yup, I sincerely think it deserved an Emmy.
Did Ryan win?
That award won’t be announced until the Live Prime Time Emmys on Sunday.
Ryan should win. He’s the best host on TV–period (ok, so last year’s Emmy’s weren’t spectacular, but that’s a different sort of comedic hosting). I don’t think any of the other nominees can really compete, honestly.
I’m curious to find out of AI can finally win that Best Reality Competition Award. The two finale episodes may have just clenched it for them, but Emmy voters are usually hard-pressed to stop voting for the guy that won last year.
Ryan’s category is new this year, so that won’t be true for his category. For the Reality Competition, they don’t vote based on the entire season. Each show submits a single episode. It hasn’t leaked which episode was submitted for AI. TAR submitted the one about “they must be witches” (India, I believe). Lots of people think that TAR might be vulnerable this year because Phil was not nominated for Best Host. But most of the pundits think it will still win. They’ve been wrong before, though (most I’ve seen seem to pick Ryan to win his category)
If you were going to submit an episode, which one would you submit?
I don’t think they can win with a performance or results night show. Performance nights just look like N people singing (which is kind of the point). The results show tend to ddddrrrrraaagggg. So, I would have submitted the Hollywood episode. I thought there was lots of great drama in that.
I really hope Ryan wins this year, because he is awesome.
I hope AI wins too, because it was such great TV this year (and TAR is overrated and way past its prime)… but I fear it won’t happen, because of the scandal and conspiracy theories on voter manipulation, etc. following Paula’s gaffe. Add to that all the media coverage of Simon complaining about AI being boring this year, and the resulting need to DRAMATIC!CHANGES! per a new judge, shorter results shows, etc… I just doubt the Emmy’s will want to get behind AI with all that in the background this year. Which is too bad because the show is really a phemomenon, and it would be a shame if it never gets honored by the top TV award.
Add into the mix the sagging ratings and it’s not exactly a recipe for Emmy success. But, stranger things have happened. Emmy voters will do what they do.
I don’t know. There were some serious production issues this year, with the overly long results shows, and the Neil Diamond night fiasco. Even if Paula hadn’t wandered off the reservation, Neil Diamond night still would have been a mess, because it was too rushed. Some serious sound engineering issues, as well.
I’d like to see Project Runway win, personally.
I’d like to see PR win too, but isn’t it always, always Amazing Race?
Ryan definitely deserves the host Emmy, he’s got to have one of the toughest hosting jobs ever. Riding herd over all that madness live? Give the man a freaking Emmy.
It’s great that David’s homecoming won. It was a great clip and really well edited. My favorite part, editing wise, is the transition between the Bon Jovi version of “Living on a Prayer” that’s playing the the background the entire clip to David’s acoustic performance of it in front of his hometown audience. Just a really clever piece of editing there. (”I’m F*cking Matt Damon” deserved the tie though.)
Is there somewhere to watch this video of David Cook that won?
Here you go dante

IMO the only homecoming that tops that is Elliott’s. The only two that made me cry like a baby.
I am glad they won it was very well done.
thanks Trina!
I wonder if Emmy voters are like Oscar voters, where they always award the winners in the wrong year to make up for missing the boat back when they deserved it?
And I agree– I hope the Hollywood epi was submitted. I think that’s the kind of drama that makes Emmy voters such suckers for TAR. And come to think of it, why doesn’t AI interweave more behind the scenes stuff on the regular show post-top 24? Editing in some of the contestants preparations, song-selection dramas and interactions backstage, or heck, even any of the ai.com footage we see would make for a much more interesting show. That would justify an hour-long results show, and I’d take that over a new judge.
