Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Mar 8-14

Kris hit a trio of milestones this week with his single LLWD. The song went top 5 on HAC, top 10 on Pop and top 20 on AC. This is his first top 5 hit song. Add in going platinum in sales and it was quite a week for that song. For good measure, it also returned to the CAC chart.

Meanwhile, Kris’s Season 8-mates also notched milestones of their own. Adam’s WWFM went top 15 on Pop and Danny’s MBD went to top 30 on Country. Those are their first top 15 and top 30 songs respectively.

Also making her mark was Kelly Clarkson whose AIEW vaulted onto the HAC chart at 31st.

We say goodbye to three songs. Daughtry’s “No Surprise” went recurrent on AC (when still in the top 10) while Jason and Katharine songs also left the HAC and AC charts respectively.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 03/07/10

Danny debuts on the Billboard 200 at number 4. He sells an impressive 65K which is higher than was predicted by HDD.

Daughtry sees an impressive 42% increase moving it within 23K of hitting platinum. Also, in platinum news, we should see Kris’s LLWD go platinum today since it had sold a total of 999K last week.

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Mar 1-7

And the award goes to…Carrie Underwood. Carrie is the only idol to reach a new milestone this week, though a number came close. Carrie has managed to achieve yet another top 5 hit on the Country chart. The woman has become an institution.

Meanwhile, over on UAC, Ruben has returned to the top 15. Kelly Clarkson went recurrent on HAC.

There were no changes on the top Idol in any of the formats, but there were some new peaks. Kris’s LLWD reached new peaks on Pop and AC, while Adam’s WWFM reached them on Pop, AC and HAC. Jason Casto has been up and down on the charts, but I think his song reached a new peak on HAC as well. Danny and Carrie have new peaks on Country.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/28/10

What will our numbers bring us today? Jubilation? Despair? Indifference? The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat?

It seems certain that Adam’s WWFM will go gold this week and it’s possible that Kris’s LLWD will go platinum. What we do know now is that Carrie continues to dominate the Album charts, Kris saw a 66% for singing a song not on his album and Allison saw a 192% increase for singing a song that was on her album. And who is that I see? Danny Gokey manages to get on our chart with street violations. Let’s see what he can do next week now that his album is in full release this week.

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Feb 22-28

Time to extinguish the flame, pull off the moose hats and stop trying to get Sid the Kid canonized. It’s time to unlace the skates and unbuckle the boots. It’s time to turn our backs on sports and turn to the serious business of radio.

Who’s at the top of the podium? Who has their personal best? Who went off course at the fifth gate? The biggest leap of the week goes to Adam Lambert’s WWFM that jumped a whopping 50 spots and over the top 40 HS line on AC. The song also hit a milestone in another discipline when it slid across the top 20 line on HAC giving it two finishes in the top 20 and 3 in top 40.

Over at the CAC cross-country track, Phil Stacey not only gave us the scoop on the behind the scenes shennigans (where the Idol PTB change the wax on your skis, break your poles and put fireants in your aerodynamic outfit) he also managed to get his pole over the line to finish 45th. Because Mandissa got lost out on the course (i.e. she went recurrent), that leaves Phil in possession of the top of the Idol podium in that format.

Also topping the Idol podium in their formats are Kelly (AC), Daughtry (HAC), Carrie (Country) and Kris (Pop). New personal bests for their current songs were Adam on 3 charts (Pop, HAC, AC), Carrie (Country), Danny (Country), Daughtry (Pop), Kris (AC) and Phil (CAC).

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of 9:28 pm of 02/28/10 after the triple-flip jump.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/21/10

Numbers. Oh, numbers. Wherefore art thou numbers?

I feel like I’m sitting in the kiss-and-cry waiting for my scores to come up. Everybody is either obsessed with traveling or the new season or I don’t know what. Hopefully, the numbers will soon flash up on the scoreboard and we’ll know whether to raise our hands in the air for victory or crumple in defeat.

What will happen this week? In it’s latest run down the track, how close has the WWFM bobsled closed the gap to gold? When will LLWD get it’s platinum certification and will Plushenko offer Kris a clone of his platinum medal? Will the RIAA be able to count correctly, or will it send an Idol song into the inside track only to have it DQ’ed?

Update: Now with rounded album numbers (thanks undercooked!)

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Feb 15-21

With the competition rounds of Season 9 about to start, it seems fitting that it’s the Season 8 Idols rattling the boards this week. First onto the podium is Kris Allen with his LLWD zipping down the Pop downhill for a new peak of 13 and inside the top 15. The song also slalom’s it’s way through the AC chart to move up 5 spots into the top 30. LLWD is now top 30 on 3 charts, top 15 on 2 and top 10 on 1.

Not to be outdone is Adam Lambert getting his toe across the line first at the short-track speedskating venue of Pop and achieving his first top 20 song. He also manages to push down “Down” so that it goes recurrent which had had a pretty good run for Season 6 Idol, Jared Cotter (one of the co-writers). 30 weeks on the pop chart. WWFM is also keeping the pace up on HAC and just barely finished outside of the top 20 on that chart. Next week!

Also, proving that race isn’t over until it’s over, Danny Gokey returns to the top 40 on Country.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/14/10

Will “Pants on the Ground” take over the Idol download leader board this week or it just fall short like many a rotation on the ice last night? Is Idol creating medal winning performances for any songs featured on the show or has the show lost it’s mojo and crashed into the first gate? Will the Season 8 crew gotten close to another certification or will they have to wait another 4 years? The answers to these and other epic questions may appear after the jump.

Billboard date 02/27/2010

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Feb 8-14

A number of Idols flirted with new milestones this week, but by the time the dust settled for the published charts, it was not to be. But, these are the Idols and they will not be denied so we still have a trio of accomplishments.

Kelly Clarkson’s megahit “Already Gone” went to top 5 on the AC chart. For those keeping score at home, that means that the song has gone top 5 on 3 different formats. The song is currently top 5 in 2 formats. Meanwhile, Daughtry has achieved yet another top 5 hit on the Hot AC chart while Kellie Pickler has gone top 15 on the Country chart. That gives us two Idols in the top 15 on country chart and two Idols in the top 5 on HAC.

But all the news is not good. Kelly’s song did go recurrent on the pop chart while Jordin’s “Battlefield” went recurrent on AC. It’s not terrible news because it’s a good achievement to go recurrent, but it does mean that Jordin is disappearing from our chart.

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of 8:49 pm of 02/14/10 after the jump (trying to be consistent with the peaks and Idol Chatter).

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 02/07/10

Numbers. Numbers. Numbers. Now, with numbers!

Burning questions:
1) Did any Idol get a Grammy bump?
2) Did Grammy bumps for other songs just effect sales ranking or did they also lower actual sales numbers?
3) Why do Kara and Randy get paid so much and do so little? If they were replaced by a Chia pet, would anybody notice?

Okay, that last one isn’t sales related, but I felt I needed three questions. What is not a hotly anticipated question is whether or not Adam’s FYE album will reach 500K in sales this week. It seems clear from HDD estimates that he should easily sail over that amount and we are just waiting for official SoundScan confirmation (and now we have it!).

Congratulations on having the first Gold selling album of Season 8, Adam!

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Feb 1-7

Idol’s Queen of Country has done it again and achieved yet another top 10 hit song. I don’t know how many that makes for Carrie, but I’m pretty sure that almost every single she’s ever had has gone top 10 on Country. Can she slide “Temporary Home” into the #1 spot for a home run? I don’t know, but I do know never to count to underestimate Underwood. Also, on the Country charts, we have Danny getting his first ever Top 40 airplay hit.

Meanwhile, over on HAC, Adam moves his single into the Top 30 making the “Whattaya Want From Me” a top 30 hit on two formats. Daughtry’s latest single returns to the top 30 on AC and Jason Castro’s “Let’s Just Fall In Love” whistles it’s way back into the Top 50 on HAC.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 01/31/10

If there is a theme this week, it appears to be “steady as she goes”. Most of the Idols sold pretty much what they sold the previous week (at least on the download chart). The two exceptions are Jennifer’s charity single which was up 80% (its first week was a partial sales week) and the General’s “Pants on the Ground” which was up 53%. So far, he’s dominating the Season 9 download chart.

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Jan 25-31

Season 2’s winner sometimes struggles for attention, but not today. Ruben reached two milestones with his current single reaching top 15 on UAC and top 50 on Urban (a chart rarely frequented by Idols).

The next two milestonse were songs reaching the top 20 in their respective formats. Kris Allen’s LLWD stormed into the top 20 on Pop with a great week. This most recent winner not only traded the top Idol spot on that chart with the first winner, he helped out other Idols on the chart by pushing Beyonce’s song recurrent. Over on Country, Kellie Pickler managed yet another top 20 hit for herself.

Finally, on AC, Elliott Yamin’s “Can’t Keep on Loving” jumped into the top 40.

Idol Sales News – Week Ending 01/24/10

Hot Question This Week: Just how many units are there in an Oprah bump?

Idol sales seem to have been pretty steady last week. The one exception was Adam who saw a surge in sales after the double whammy of an Oprah appearance and his WWFM video being released the week prior. Just how big is that surge going to be? No numbers yet, so please post them as you find them! Thanks!

Note: I’m travelling this week in a different time zone, so I won’t have a chance to update this post during the day (MJ might). So, please check the comments for the numbers.

Numbers after the JUMP…

Monday Morning Mediabase Update – Jan 18-24

Daughtry’s latest song “Life After You” is also now their latest Top 10 song. In fact, Daughtry has two top 10 songs now with their current single Top 10 on HAC and their previous single Top 10 on AC (actually, returning to the Top 5). Also hitting milestones this week are Adam with his single becoming his first top 30 hit (on Pop) and Mandissa notching another Top 15 song on CAC.

Pop looks ready for some major moves. There are lots of songs ready to go recurrent and lots of songs dropping like stones. LLWD has managed to claw it’s way up to top 21 this week so it’s now in a position to start pushing songs recurrent itself. Should be another interesting week on that chart.

Here are your Monday Morning Mediabase Updates for airplay as of 2:47 pm of 01/24/10 after the jump (trying to be consistent with the peaks and Idol Chatter).
