Did you watch The Biggest Loser finale last night? The winner, high school champion swimmer, Rachel Frederickson, began the season at 260 pounds and lost 155 pounds–59.62% of her body weight.
But did she lose TOO much weight? She was practically unrecognizable when she took the stage last night:
And her winning weigh in – THIGH GAP:
Trainers, Jillian Michael and Bob Harper looked SHOCKED when Rachel took the stage. Keep in mind that the finale is live, and it’s been weeks since the trainers have seen the contestants.
Here’s another shot of Rachel. She’s definitely got a case of lollipop head and stick arms happening here.
Here’s Rachel after her makeover. The makeover episode aired only two weeks ago. It’s a dramatic change between then and now. Rachel was reportedly a size 6 at this point. ETA: I realize the show was shot months ago…I’m just making a point about how shocking the change is for viewers.
I had never watched this show prior to this season. Frankly, I find the show’s weight loss methods to be unrealistic. The massive weight loss in such a short period of time–the contestants spend 16 weeks on the ranch seem really unhealthy.
Weight loss specialists recommend slow weight loss coupled with behavior modification that can be maintained for a life time. It’s about creating new life-long habits. It’s hard to believe these contestants have actually REALLY learned how to live a brand new life.
The show has an emphasis on extreme exercise, with very little attention paid to nutrition. What do these contestants eat? Who prepares their food? The competition encourages risky behavior. How many contestants are taking laxitives, are starving themselves, over exercising, dehydrating themselves to stay in the game? It’s all very troubling.
What do you think? Did Rachel lose too much weight?
