You can follow along with your Idols on Billboard chart here.
- According to Billboard, sales picked up this week with Pretty Ricky (#1) and the Shins (#2) breaking the 100,000 sales mark on the Billboard 200.
- Chris Daughtry’s album DAUGHTRY slipped to #3 this week, “despite a 23% sales increase to 80,000.” Daughtry slips to #2 on the Top Rock Album chart, behind the Shin’s new album.
- Taylor Hicks drops from #50 to #63. However, his single “Just to Feel That Way” is officially released to radio on Monday. And, in a few weeks, he begins a Nationwide Tour that is selling out in many cities. I expect sales for Taylor’s CD to improve in the next couple of weeks.
- Katharine McPhee’s debut album dropped this week. Her single “Over It” is currently making it’s way up some radio charts, although it has not impacted the Billboard charts yet. Hits Daily Double estimates first week sales for Katharine’s CD at around the 115k mark, with a #2 finish behind Nora Jones on the Billboard 200.
- Carrie Underwood’s “Some Heart’s” sits at #1 on the Top Country Album chart for the second week in a row.
- Daughtry’s single “It’s Not Over” sits pretty at #4 on the Billboard 100. Chris Daughtry has got a bonafide hit on his hands.

MJ-thanks for the numbers but for me its ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.
I am so looking forward to Taylor’s concert tour starting! Woo!
oh my, I never heard of the Shins or Pretty Ricky. guess i’m out of the loop.
Correction needed: Taylor’s single is titled “Just To Feel That Way” and not ‘This Way’.
Keep on rollin’ DAUGHTRY!!
I like the Shins. I’ve never heard of Pretty Ricky until now. Chris is doing much better than I hoped when his album came out.
Coldest week of the friggin’ winter.
Nobody wearin’ open toes is going to head out to buy a CD.
So 115,000 looks pretty good, although with more temperate weather I’m sure the number would have been 189,000.
Daughtry has moved up to #12 on the United World Charts and INO is sitting just outside the top 5 on mediabase with an audience impression of over 40 million. Digital downloads of INO are picking up and should surpass 500,000 this week.
If the recent HDD prediction comes through and Daughtry sells another 85,000 for Week 11, total sales will be nearing 1.5 million.
115,000 is a very solid first week for Katharine. Gold is almost a given if those numbers hold up.
I knew Chris was good but I am beginning to believe he is also invincible. I can hardly believe what he has accomplished in 10 short weeks. And still has a head of steam and is going strong. Rock on, Daughtry.
I am amazed at how well Chris is doing. He will join Kelly and Carrie as top AI alum ever very soon. He reminds me of Carrie because I can’t figure who is buying all those CDs. I guess his brand of rock is huge right now. When does Clive put up the Chris shrine in his office?
I think Chris has diehard AI fans, plus the ones who tuned in when they heard there was a rocker as a favorite to win, and new fans that never watch AI let alone that he was on it.
YAY for Daughtry. I’m impressed. He has surpassed every expectation I had for him when the season ended and he began working on his album. I know he’s not some fans’ cup ‘o tea, but he is mine, and I’m continuing to be impressed by what he’s doing. Can’t WAIT to see him on tour!

Amazing!
I think part of the reason why Daughtry is doing so well is because he’s got ZERO competition right now. I’ll bet if there were tons of new CDs of his genre out there (such as new CDs from Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, Rob Thomas, etc.) he would probably not be doing as well as he currently is. Of course that is just a hunch.
Nickelback, Hinder, The All American Rejects, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, etc ALL have songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart right now. Nickelback, in fact, has at least TWO.
I’m sure we all know that an album doesn’t have to be brand new for songs to be released as singles and rocket up radio charts, thus causing more purchases of the cd. Hello, is Carrie Underwood around? She’s on what, her 4th single and still charting in album sales?
In fact, I’m looking at last’s week’s Billboard Top 200 in album sales right now:
Daughtry is #3 (10 weeks on chart)
Nickelback is #12 (69 weeks on chart)
Hinder is #25 (52 weeks on chart)
My Chemical Romance is #33 (14 weeks on chart)
Evanescence is #37 (17 weeks on chart)
Incubus is #67 (9 weeks on chart)
The All American Rejects is #79 (81 weeks on chart)
The Killers is #88 (17 weeks on chart)
Even if you take the albums that have been released for a while out of the equation, he’s still beating My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, Incubus, and The Killers all pretty handily on the charts.
Need I continue?
OMG-I thought I read you are nursing a hangover. Go take a rest please. Daughtry is the geatest, blah, blah, blah.
I am not nursing a hangover. I wasn’t THAT bad. (You just wish you had been there.
)
I know Daughtry is not THE rawk god, but the implication that he has no competition right now and that is why he is selling well is misguided, and well, we just can’t have that can we? I had to point it out.
Most of those albums have been out for a while. Some of them have been on the charts for 80+ weeks. You can’t really say most of those albums are actually NEW. I’m happy that Daughtry is doing well, but record sales in general are SLOW right now. Very slow. It’s no wonder he’s continuing to do steadily well.
I don’t think slow record sales have anything to do with it. He’s heard on the radio constantly and has a “HAWT” video going on. His Cd is very commercial and he does have a nice enough voice. DAUGHTRY is doing very well and will continue to do well IMO.
ONE has been on the chart 80+ weeks. 4 of them were released around the same time as Daughtry, 3 of them were not, which is why I made this comment:
Or what that comment just ignored?
Yet another “wave it away” excuse. “Daughtry is doing well, but…” What does that have to do with anything? Yes, record sales ARE slow. However, they are slow for EVERYONE. And he’s still beating out everyone else.
Just wanted to chime in at how thrilled I am at how good Chris is doing. I thought he would do well, I hoped he would do well, but his sucess has succeed my expectations. I am especially thrilled about INO being #4. I personally don’t think that this is the best song/biggest hit from the album, so for this one to do so well, bodes well for the others.
Sarah, like I said, I’m not trying to discredit Chris’s success, all I’m doing is suggesting reasons why his record sales may be so good right now. No need to get all defensive. This is all just my opinion. If you disagree with me, than that’s okay too.
Chris’ success can be summed up by the following.
Chris is singing the music he SHOULD BE singing and he has an amazing recording voice for it.
Chris is singing the music his fans are EXPECTING him to sing.
Chris’ style of music is what is POPULAR right now.
Thus the sum of all the above results in a Top 10 album for weeks to come.
