This week’s Idol Billboard Update Chart, just for YOU.
Highlights:
- All of the Idols on the Billboard 200 had decreased sales this week, except for Elliott Yamin’s “Sounds of the Season” (sold exclusively through Target). It had a last minute holiday surge that landed it back on the Billboard 200 at #123.
- Singles that had been squeezed off the charts by holiday songs the past couple of weeks are making their way back. This is especially apparent on the recurrent charts, where songs by Carrie Underwood “Before He Cheats”, Daughtry, “Home” and Elliott Yamin, “Wait for You” are making a reappearance.
- Carrie Underwood’s new single, “All American Girl” has just made the Hot Country Songs Top 20.

Sweet! Nice to see this about Elliott’s Xmas cd and nice to see him on the front page.
Over the past two weeks, Elliott has sold 36,000 albums combining a Xmas CD sold in only one outlet and an album out almost a year. He’s had no special promotion of any kind just some radio play. I think that’s actually pretty impressive.
Yay for Elliott! :)
Elliotts feet is not outstanding in my opinion like Taylor doing well for a winner. Ellioit has a hit song on the radio played everywhere. His cd was promoted on the target cite with Taylor swift she outsold him 2 to one. No promotion compare that had no hit on the radio..Elliott should have sold better and being independant the shins have sold more..Poor guy.
Taylor Swift currently sells more albums than Carrie Underwood. Her album is 3x platinum and is probably going to 4 million sold. She got to appear on the Rockefeller Tree Lighting and as far as I know has sold around 88K Christmas albums to Elliott 56K. I don’t know her exact number because her Xmas CD doesn’t show up on the BB200 this week while Elliott does. Comparing sales of the two Xmas albums, I would say Elliott has the potential (with the right material) to be a platinum selling artist. The third artist in the series - KT Tunstall has probably sold half of what Elliott has. She never made the BB 200 or the Holiday chart so I don’t really know.
His album has gone gold based on one single and the single is heading towards sales of 900K. Yeah, I agree he should have done better. I think the album should have gone platinum. But since it still sells thousands weekly maybe he’ll sell a few more.
Since Elliott is the co-owner of his label and gets 50% of the profits (his album actually made $) , I wouldn’t call him “poor” anymore either.
The only thing Elliott and Taylor have in common is that they are not currently signed to major labels although I think Taylor will have a new label shortly.
Pop, The Shins have been around for years and they have put out many albums. Do you know how many CDs they sold last year? How many downloads of their song(s) were sold last year? Look it up. That “poor guy” remark may be rethought afterwards.
Have I missed something or has it been confirmed that the rumor about Taylor being dropped is true????? Just asking………Pix
