Blake Lewis – Listen To His New Single, “Sad Song”

Listen to “Sad Song”, the first single from Season 6 runner-up, Blake Lewis’s net album Heartbreak  On  Vinyl, due out later this year.

Listen HERE.

Oddly, “Sad Song” wouldn’t sound out of place on his post-Idol debut, Audio Day Dream, with Blake still rocking that retro-80’s dance vibe.

Remixes are in the works, I’m sure, and maybe, like “How Many Words” before it, the new single will find its way onto the dance charts.

  • Not my cup of tea.

  • Why does he sound British?

  • I liked it! The music overpowered the vocals a bit. I was glad to hear the Blake voice that I liked on AI. :)

  • I was expecting much worse.

  • It’s not that catchy (and Blake’s voice is weaker than the track). It reminds me of a song that would be played on one of the lesser music channels in the UK where a girl walks around the city late at night, getting on and off public transport.

There, I have Blake’s video mapped out for him as well. ;)

  • HermeticallySealed

Kudos to the poster upthread who mentioned this is a total ripoff of Here’s My Hello, from his first cd. It was on the tip of my tongue but I just couldn’t place where I’d heard the chorus before.

  • Hey, I heard Blake’s song 1000 miles when I was at an amusement park the other day.

Anyways, about Sad Song, I dunno. I find everything that Blake does way too generic. I hope this new album is going to be really different from his first one, because I remember thinking it sounded like a cross between High School Musical and N’Sync. Which basically means that it was really generic. =/ Still love Blake though. Wish he would sing songs straight more often. I really love his singing voice. I can’t see this song doing too well by means of selling.

    Whoa, Battlefield. LOL.

  • Why does he sound British?

I know. He sounds kind of like that guy in Season 7 who was living in his car and got cut right before the semi-finals–he sucked on Stand By Me–what’s his name?

It’s not horrible, but the electronix really cover the voice, which is a shame b/c he’s decent singer.

  • Suzanne- omg, i know who you’re talking about. Josiah Leming? I’m laughing right now.. haha

  • Blake Lewis is not fat. Neither is Adam Lambert, for that matter, which has been another criticism by some people on this blog. It’s getting tiresome how people fling “fat” around on here, especially when the people are prob. actually too thin.

Anyway, I want to like this song by Blake, but it’ll take a few listens. I never heard any of his previous stuff on the radio, which I never really understood. I thought some songs were as good as some of the other crap that gets played.

  • Kinda like it. Would be a good road trip song or a song to clean the house to!

I know nothing about Blake the douche – he is the reason I started watching Idol at all because he lives (lived) a couple of miles from me – and I loved him on the show and voted like a madwoman. However, I never tuned in to the Idolsphere until this season, so never heard anything negative about him. Didn’t ever hear a song off his album, didn’t buy it. I know several people who grew up with him and like him, so here’s hoping the douchebaggery is a thing of the past and he finds success.

  • MJ is right… it sounds like it would fit in with his first album. I liked ADD, so to me that’s not a bad thing. Very 80s synch, though. I wonder how that will fly. Good luck to Blake. I don’t buy that he’s a douche, but that’s just me. ;-)

  • cool song! go blake!!

I think the word is “bloated.” The guy has made no secret of his love for partying and all that goes with it. He doesn’t have the stature or metabolism to handle the constant drinking. I predict a massive beer gut in his near future.

The song is one big bowl of meh.

  • This is such crap. And he’s supposed to be a beat boxing machine? What’s with all the (mediocre) singing then? A thoroughly autotuned, vocoded, synthesized hot mess. Pet Shop Boys, anyone? What decade is this?!

  • ^^”I think the word is ‘bloated.’

Just had to LOL at this….this would be worse than “fat”…I think.

  • I like post-idol Blake a lot more than the one on the show. I really enjoyed Audio Day Dream. The sounds of the 80’s are making a comeback.

  • Blake’s awesome! I really like this new single. It’s still very Blake but the overall mixing and production is much better than songs from ADD. Can’t wait for the new album!

  • I think there are a lot of other better sounding retro-80s dance-techno bands out there right now (Friendly Fires, Passion Pit, to name 2- wow, is use of alliteration required??). I think Blake will have a problem getting this any kind of play, club or otherwise. Don’t know anything about his douchebag-ness or weight/bloat.

Ok, now I am starting to possibly feel bad for the guy…

  • Liked the lyrics, kind of melancholy, don’t like the synthetic sound, would never listen to it again of my own free will. Somebody with really good vocals could strip it down like Kris did with Heartless and it would work for me, but not Blake.
