Blake Lewis Music Video ‘Heartbreak on Vinyl’

Update: According to Blake Lewis via tweet, the video is a fan video and not official, as the New York Post reported…

Check out the premiere of Blake Lewis’ new video for his next single, “Heartbreak on Vinyl” via New York Post’s Popwrap.

The video doesn’t feature Blake in a single frame. Instead, it works as an homage to 80’s and 90’s films. Can you pick out your favorites? There’s a slew of John Hughes’ films, Spinal Tap and High Fidelity

And did I mention that I love this throwback to 80’s dance and new wave music. It’s one of my favorite tunes released by an Idol to date. No lie.

“Heartbreak on Vinyl” is the title track, from Blake’s new album.

  • Well… I was told it wasn’t directly from the VP of TommyBoy. It’s a great video either way! Enjoy!

  • me too holeighannie! i could watch that movie over and over again. the breakfast club of the 90’s i always say. the soundtrack is FANTASTIC and so may good lines too.

“well sinead o’rebellion shock me shock me shock me with your deviant behavior” “what’s with today, today?” “it’s REX MANNING DAY!”

I totally agree with you about this song, mj. Love, love, love it!

I think OCCali might be right if only because the rights to all of those clips would be a pretty penny. The status of John Hughes’ estate not withstanding.

Only one complaint…needs more Some Kind of Wonderful.

    Two words: fan tastic.

    wjm, Class of ‘81

  • Reflections On Life:

The video just made me smile ear to ear happy that I came of age in the 80s. God it was fun.

    ITA!

    Thanks Blake!

  • Barbariba:

Official or not, I think it’s a great video and a great song.
    Way to go Blake!

Looooove this song. It’s one of my all time favorite songs released by an Idol as well! And I finally bought Heartbreak on Vinyl, the album. (: I love it. And I almost completely lost faith in Blake after his first album xD But he’s just pulled me back in.

I love how I’m finally getting good music from my favorite S6 idols this year.

  • beesims:

Love this! I think I am downloading my first Blake Lewis song.

  • TwigLA:

This is a good song from Blake and one that I’d listen on replay. The rest of his album, I wasn’t very into. I like the concept of this one and the throwback quality.

Now the video, I don’t know if it’s fan made or official, but it’s all sorts of fun. It’s obviously good advertising for all those movies.

Now I’m having trouble quenching a desire to go visit Amoeba Records on Sunset.

  • HermeticallySealed:

Enjoyed the video, though glad it was a fan one. Too bad Heartbreak wasn’t the first single from the album.

  • sunchick:

Like totally like OMG awesome! :D

rowenaaine, I highly recommend Heartbreak on Vinyl. I bought ADD and, aside from a couple of ballads like “1000 Miles” and “End of the World,” didn’t listen to it much. So I hesitated, but got the whole Heartbreak album, based on the title single since I thought it was great (didn’t like “Sad Song” that much) and it’s totally worth it. The whole album is pop, dance, 80s, Brit-pop, and yet more in line with today than what Blake was trying with ADD.

Also interesting is that in an interview, Blake said that he writes the beats first, and then lyrics later. This song sounds very organic, and the lyrics tell a great story – the fact that he worked in “analog” in there is genius. Another great song on there is “Love or Torture” that Ryan Tedder co-wrote (leftover track from ADD but I think spruced up production) and “Binary Love.” I really respect Blake’s musical ability, and his voice is lovely on this album.

I think I’ve posted on all the recent Blake Lewis threads so why stop now.

    1. Love Heartbreak on Vinyl, the single and the album.

    2. A pleasant surprise for me as I was not previously a Blake fan and do not have his first album.

    3. Haven’t decided on my favorite song on the album since I like all but one.

    4. Heartbreak on Vinyl, the song and the album, are fun, fun, fun!

    The End.

  • Really like this song and what a fun video. Even if it is fan made, it’s good. I hope this gets more people interested in Blake’s album.

  • From Blake’s Twitter:
Reply @heatherberg I didn’t make it. Some fan did. Its sweet!

Reply @TweetPlaid no. Some fan made it. Trying to find out who

I would never post something if I wasn’t 100% sure about it. It’s a fan video.

  • jaimej40:

I am big fan of Blake’s music. Love the song and the video no matter who made it.

  • Fabulosity:

I don’t think it’s the best song by an idol ever, but it is a throw back to the 80’s. It is very much Blake. It won’t it top 40 but I can see it make it on the dance hit charts. I do like it.
