I’ll be checking for it on Hit Predictor :). It should do well.

I’m surprised. I thought this would truly be an original-sounding work, but the 30-second clip you get on iTunes sounds…well, unoriginal. I’d never know this was Blake–it could be Robin Thicke, Timberlake, Usher, any of those R&B-lite guys. I’m sure there is a little bit of beatboxing in the song somewhere, but…eh.

But, then again, I say this every single time an Idol releases a song, so it’s not like I should still be surprised, right?

I agre with jpfan. It will do very well.

I bought it last night around 11pm central. Hope it still counts towards his sales even though it wasn’t quite Tuesday in my time zone!

    I just bought it too.
I agree with mj this song has huge hit potential.
With all the rave reviews it’s been getting from Billboard, USA Today EW, etc it should do pretty well.
    Go Blake!

I just listened to the whole song again on Blake’s myspace. It still gets on my last nerve, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be a huge hit. I would totally buy his “MySpace Song” though. Holy Molasses!

I think I’ll probably end up downloading a few tracks when the CD comes out like I did with Elliott’s CD.

cheese - you may never like it and that is fine. But just to let you know it wasn’t until about the 3rd or 4th time I heard it that it grew on me.

I love this song. It might even be my favorite of all the AI debut singles (probably up there with Miss Independent). I’m really shocked because I wasn’t really a Blake fan during AI and the way he kept describing the sound of his CD, well it sounded like a mess.

This is not the kind of music I usually listen to, but I think it’s very catchy and will probably be a big hit. Good for Blake!

Welp. As someone above posted, it could be a number of musicians out there — add Britney to that list.

Just Another Same Sound Song imvho!

I’m not ready to predict a huge hit but Break Anotha is strong in its genre. By the way, at the gym today they played Britney’s new album and it’s great (I hate to say that but it’s true.) It’s the producers who should get the credit though but I’m probably going to buy at least some of the tracks.

Just listened to Elliott’s One Word and Jordin’s Tattoo –

    Great potential!

On the downside, Elliott’s songs are starting to sound a tad too much alike. Jordin is a better singer than *** but that song could be kat’s.

and, ftr, I steadfastly refuse to listen to Leona. She can thank fathead Simon for dat.

Wait for You and One Word were written by the same peeps. Elliott has some more upbeat stuff on his cd. I’m hoping he releases one of the more upbeat songs next.

I saw him in concert Sunday - he was terrific!

    ETA: I LOVE Break Anotha!

Wait for You, Tattoo and One Word were all written by Stargate. They also wrote Irreplaceable by Beyonce. However, they didn’t write Blake’s single which was written by the same person who wrote Leona’s first single. It’s a small idol world out there and there’s a reason why everything sounds the same.

I bought it this morning. I while I have no idea how huge of hit it will be, I think it has great potential. I also like that fact that not only did he co-wrote, but that he also co-produced his first single. Well according to Billboard mag. he did.

Hey Lu, I saw Elliott signing his Xmas CD today in NYC. What a cutie.

Hey Lu, I saw Elliott signing his Xmas CD today in NYC. What a cutie.

Awwww… did you get one signed?

As soon as it comes out Canada I’m going to buy it too!
I’ve been visiting AOL or Blake’s Myspace to listen to this song since it was released, Love it.
Glad to see all the positive reviews from Billboard and other websites. It’s about to break into the top 100 in Amazon as well, congrats Blake!

I met Elliott today, too. What a nice guy! Love him!

“Break Anotha” sounds goooood on my iPod. As does Britney’s album. ;)

“and, ftr, I steadfastly refuse to listen to Leona. She can thank fathead Simon for dat.”

    Actually, same here.

  22. 22 pj Nov 13th, 2007 at 10:09 pm

LOL. Don’t give Simon too much power. ;-)

  23. 23 ShabbyChic Nov 13th, 2007 at 10:33 pm

I’m going to wait and purchase the whole album. It’s just a few weeks away. I don’t own an ipod, so unless I’m going to download a bunch of songs to burn onto one cd, it doesn’t make much sense for me.

  24. 24 carolina Nov 14th, 2007 at 12:38 am

star, Britney thanks you and in your honor she’ll continue to fail every drug test, miss as many court appointments as she can, drag her comatose kids outta bed and drop their tiny butts in a car seat (minus head restraints), hit Hollywood and continue to visit Starbuck at least 47 times a day, run over a passel of TMV’s photographers and, she’ll up it — she’ll aim for the groin with her left tire and camera with her right.

Britney is all about pleasing her fans!

American Idol’s Blake Lewis Pens Love Song for Natalie Portman

“…One of my songs is based on Natalie Portman,” Blake, 26, tells In Touch. “It’s called ‘Know My Name’ and it’s about the idea of having a celebrity crush when you see someone in a magazine and you just like her for some reason and think, ‘I could be with that girl.’” Lyrics include: “You and me pretty girl, and a future of bliss…”

I just downloaded it even though I plan on buying the cd when it comes out. I wasn’t sure about it at first but it’s grown on me. It’s very catchy and can imagine will do well on the radio.

Blake is currently no. 86 on top 100 itunes songs.
